blame game mentality , works both ways
If you're defending our MPs, then why did you also post the following in reponse to Strawcat 11:09?

"Food banks and charities are a god send

I wish they'd been around in the seventies when daily hunger pains interrupted my sleep"

You account for most the posts on this article already - you're just a troll looking for attention and I pity you.

If you read the article you will see that the MPs I am defending are the MPs that are having a word with themselves

I am having my say and I do this regularly and with curtesy to all other posters
I pity those who cannot do the same.

This whole article is about the government having a word with itself to tackle food poverty

You're very welcome.
If only you had the wit to wonder why it has taken them this long?
Fat chance of that though, eh?
Jog on.

Its not actually poverty its just a case of not having as much as everyone else
All my life I haven't had as much as everyone else but have got used to it.

Also my dad brought me up to value money and not to spend stupidly and get in debt
WAKE UP !!

Another rant against those using legal means to reduce their tax bill
Every individual and business should strive to reduce their tax bill
Taxes are too high, governments - central and local - waste money on non cost effective bright ideas.
Reduce the number of MPs and local councillors by at least 50% If a project is cost effective the private sector will provide it
Jeremy Hunt avoided paying stamp duty on 7 flats because his mate Osborn made buying more than 6 exempt. The Tory treasurer put all of his company profits in an offshore account!
£37bn of tax payers money for a T&T system run by their mates thats a shambles.
This is a corrupt govt. of millionaires who rig the system and help themselves to OUR MONEY, whilst avoiding contributing like everyone else!

It's a social problem. Give people

A steady job with a Living Wage.

A secure home where they can live in safety.

A society where people care for one another.

Food poverty? Not for Boris and Carrie who have received £12,500 of pandemic food deliveries.

They have enjoyed 30 giant boxes of shopping and 100 prepared meals from a luxury organic food store 'smuggled in' to Downing Street via the rear entrance.

The meals come from the company owned by Lady Bamford, wife of JCB tycoon Lord Bamford, who has given millions to the Tory Party.

I'm very much looking forward to the day the bailout-billionaire backed Habsburg-jawed throwbacks that Murdoch, Harmsworth, Barclay(s), Lebedev, the BBC & co put into power are facing down millions of decent people who they left with nothing to lose.

I say "A la lanterne" to the malignant minority. Down with the parasite class.

Employers should/do not have an obligation/responsibility to pay a certain wage (other than minimum). They have an obligation to their shareholders & employ labour at the cheapest market rate. If the wage is not enough for an employee to live the life they wish, they should work more hours, change job or cut spending. Paying more than needed makes a business uncompetitive & will lose jobs
your name really needs to be John the UNwise one as its clear you dont have the first clue about anything yes if you can buy all you want you may feel great but the lost customers who cant afford anything in the end cost not only you but the economy more.
when the lowest paid get paid more they spend it when the rich get paid more they off shore it and take it out of the economy idiot

do you right wing morons and tory voters (same thing really) go and check facts or just rely on the lies put out by the BBC and daily fail?
fact most benefits are paid to big business and hence their profit line by allowing them to pay BELOW exitance level wages.
most people in receipt of benefits are also working FULLTIME which is how big business benefits from tory greed.

Call food poverty what it is . Poverty
Not many will be going hungry to save for their summer holidays
No, they spend child benefit in the pub or the bookies rather than feeding their children.

It isn't a new phenomena. My dad was doing it in the 70s. Now it goes on cannabis and on-line gaming.

Children would be much better fed if food vouchers were used instead. BetFred doesn't accept them!

The food poverty debate, never seems to be a completely honest one. Either wages and benefits need to increase, or people need to make better choices about what they spend their money on.
Food banks make the situation worse, because they either allow employers and government to abdicate their responsibilities, or they are subsidising bad parents.
Which is it?
Huge TVs, sky, beer and fags feature in houses of those who can't afford food. Couples with pizza wrappers. Buy stewing steak from a butcher, flour, suet, some veg and spuds, less than your pizza and properly filling and nutritious as a steamed pud. Add kidney to further reduce price and add even more flavour. Lots and lots of cheap food recipes, you are on benefit so have time to cook! Removed
There's no such thing as food poverty!!! What there is, however, is indolence and fecklessness, both encouraged by the socialist welfare system that infests our country!!!

Abolish the welfare state and people will learn to provide for themselves again!!

No worky no eaty!! That's my mantra!

There are people who work and work bloody hard and still can't eat.

Just the posh sort who have never worked a real day's in their lives who don't know what's it's like to worry about how make ends meet and planning to skip meals to do so.

Your mantra is one that is of an out of touch snob who doesn't understand the real world.

Sadly food tokens are not the answer. Even tokens have a market value. Someone will be willing to sell a £10 token for £5 in order to have readies.

Can technology help?
Th answer, lefty, is to end the socialist welfare state that encourages the unemployed to loaf about all day waiting for their next hand out!!!

I do agree that the welfare state has not helped anyone it has chained them into a benefits culture. I do not agree with your last sentence. Benefits should be capped as a short time help out no longer than 2 years. The min. wage should be at £10 an hour. Local Authority & civil service salaries should all be capped under £100,000 a year max. Start point for tax at £20,000. TVLicence fee ended.

Why did the Tories abolish Home Economics from the school curriculum? Could they not see that this key skill of cooking from scratch is key to having a healthy society? Probably not as they are in the hands of the sugar & junk food lobby.

It is true to say that the state of the country in terms of public services & facilities is always worse after a Tory govt - Labour though are still unelectable
