Porto players go in aggressively in challenges and then fall over when the slightest breeze hits them
That's foreign teams for you!
Like Drogba did?
This seems to be the way of things these days. No such thing as a good honest shoulder barge anymore.
Seen in the premier league in every game. It's a non contact sport.
Do you watch any English football?, or are you blind when you do? The game is the same whereever you go.
They all attended the Lacazette school of diving. ??
Oh and that doesn't happen every week in the premier league does it???
And?
It's called ashamed of nothing offended by everything
Mason Mount proving once again he’s the first name on the Chelsea and England teamsheet
After Foden
Admire your humour.
See my post. a wonderful 2 footed player with skills to match, Poor goalie tho'. His pull back with his wrong foot ( OMG sik of punnets saying this!!) was very nice but not sensational, and is xpected by the better ball players. Goal was not sensational either just very good. hes paid to deliver and does regularly. So less rubbish talk robbie Shud also b captain of England. natural leader unlike
Chelsea is a 1 man team at mo. Stop Mount. Stop Chelsea
Not a Chelsea fan but a professional performance & the debate on Arnold & James
Well judging by the last couple of nights James for me
Well judging by the last couple of nights James for me
James,Walker, trippier, all capable of forward and defensive play, TAA never a capable defender
Depends on whether Southgate chooses to do a back three or not. In which case I think TAA is best suited to the RWB role, where he has the freedom to go forward more and less responsibility defensively.
I'd take Walker, Trippier and Wan Bissaka over James and TAA at the moment.
Great to see an English side on the up in Europe.
Tuchel seems to be doing something right at the moment too, well done Chelsea!

Chelsea couldn’t have got an easier draw Porto ain’t even Eufa cup quality. European champions don’t get beat 5-2 by West Brom
hes been here 5 mins and hes doing a GREAT JOB. Lpool fan but 2footed ball playing oficianado primarily. Love some of these young lads with a bit of swagger and 2 feet
One game on from a 2-5 thrashing at home.
English team ??? You mean the United nations team from England !!!!!
Surely FC Porto need a good dietician..They clearly fall over when breathed on.
Could have been the pregame garlic chips Chelsea were seen eating...
Think they learned from Chelsea tbh. Drogba, Costa, Robben, Lampard, Hazard

Grrrr foreigners!!
Don't EVER discount Chelsea. After the knives were drawn, they did what they're capable of doing to ANY team. They'll be a few, less critical opinions tonight.
good result tonight looks like madrid in semi unless
Aye Aye.
I don't fancy their chances against Real Madrid, though. They looked the business against Liverpool the other night.
They looked good I bet they're just glad they weren't up against the mighty WBA

TAA is good going forward, really needs to work on himself defensively though
Walker simply a road runner, can't read a game, poor positional play and technique. Not to be trusted as always liable to make mistake in important games. Other options stated are Ok-ish.
Chelsea record away in the CL incredible
Home or away, it's the same thing nowadays.
They've done very well this year in the CL. It's a neutral ground though. If Porto win their "away" leg 3-1 (at the same ground!) they'll go through on "away" goals, which is ridiculous. If both matches are at a neutral venue away goals shouldn't count double.
Eng vs Portugal in SPAIN!
That’ll do me at 2-0. Have to say though, Mount is now becoming a master of the turn. That was a worldy
Chelsea played very well,a real threat in CL.But once again Chelsea and Man City will have the money myth thrown at them. When infact 17 Premier League Clubs have billionaire owners. Its just that those 2 clubs have upset what was considered to be the "natural order" of things.Liverpool and Man Utd out spent everyone else for years. But things have changed and they don't like it.
Liverpool and MU outspent everybody for years using the money their success deservedly brought them.

You are seriously applauding two teams who, through no skill whatsoever, were gifted an opportunity to spend billions, cheat FFP, create a ridiculous imbalance in wages compared with the real world, and basically ruin football as a sport.
Your conscience allows this simply because you happen to support one of them.
What you gonna do when the money moves on and you realise football is broken.

It's not that other are owned by billionaires because most them don't pump the money that these two do. Liverpool spend the silly money the got for Suarez and Countinho and Utd earning their money through genuine commercial deals
Mason Mount proving once again he’s the first name on the Chelsea and England teamsheet
Foden is good, but one dimensional. Mount is the more complete player
Let’s hope their talents aren’t wasted by being managed by Southgate.......
But Foden doesn't play for Chelsea so how could be the first name?
After Kane
In all honesty, what does it matter? As a Chelsea fan I’m delighted with Mount’s development this season where I can see him becoming a top player. I’m also happy to see Foden given more opportunities and prove that he is a special talent. I can foresee a whole Gerrard Vs Lampard debate in the future! Why not just enjoy the talent that both Foden & Mount possess? That is aimed more at the responses
You might be right, they are both right up there, lets hope it bodes well for England. I don't have much faith in the manager though
No2 on teamsheet coz he can ue both feet also and a brain twice size of Sterlin' while I am at it finish off with Rice and Grealish for midfield and lets go fwd with the ball and less back/side passing which is so .. yawn yawn. These lads excite
And Kane, and Stirling and Mcguire, and Rashford, and........well more or less half the team actually.
Mount and Foden have won a World Cup together, beating Spain and Brazil in the process. That alone gives them more useful experience for tournaments than playing Burnley twice a year for ten years. Should be a joint foundation of the England team to come for a few years if treated correctly. Add in Kane and Sterling and build everything else around to suit.
As a Chelsea fan would agree with you, mount superb but Foden is diff sauce...
That actually wasn’t agony to watch, relatively comfortable for the blues. Tie only half done but looking good.
Exactly! Job half done at best. Chelsea looked more decisive in defence and should keep it that way. This team is only coming together. No point being loose and fancy free and thinking about semis.
Good result for Chelsea, Mount has come on in leaps and bounds since his loan spell.
All credit to Lampard.
All credit to Lampard.
Chelsea did not play ‘well’ but they scored twice, could have had three, and did not look like conceding.
Porto were very good, but spoiled it with so much play-acting.
Porto were very good, but spoiled it with so much play-acting.
What the heck happened to the style and panache displayed against Atleti.
I love the Champions League but my God it is so nerve-wracking ! After losing 2-5 at home to West Brom i feared the worst here.
Although I'm a Chelsea fan I can't stand the champions league. I prefer the original concept where the winners of the countries can enter. I love the fa cup as well
Y fear the worst after a bad defeat? Lpool lost by 7 to villa andthey ve done Ok in this topsy turvy season. Stuffed by themselves against MAdrid, but whos t osay they wont turn it around. SPurss were top at xmas werent they. Trust i nyour team and Manager. Theyre paid enuf
Excellent result, good way to come back after the disaster on Saturday.
I think the contrast in results was down to the starting 11, which is probably close to our best with the exception of Kante and Pulisic. I feel Jorghino might be replaced by Rice next season to solidify that deep lying area. Chelsea selling Bakayoko, Tomori, Barkley, Emerson and probably Jorghino will easily be able to afford him with change and have Abraham to offer on top.

When you chase a game with ten men there's always the chance you will get caught out at the back. It's a lot easier to defend a lead with ten men and hope to get the odd chance, But Chelsea were brave and went for it.
It's unfortunate that WBA decided to play their best football of the season.
It's unfortunate that WBA decided to play their best football of the season.
That's foreign teams for you!
Never see any of them “go in hard”.
There is of course no doubt there are also divers in the EPL, but you don't see a whole game plan of a team dragging the game into the gutter like Porto did last night. Under obvious instruction just to go out & cheat as much as you can. Imagine if it was a straight red for diving, but we rarely even see a yellow.
Great result eventually but this team does nothing for my blood pressure. Only felt better when Tuchel finally got Werner and Havertz off and Kante and Giroud on. They have to start next week. Need a target man up front and control in midfield.
Might be an idea to start pulisic and Kante instead to use a high press and still keep a goal threat with Mount.
After international games kante injured mount 3 games in a week, early kick off from the FA! 10 men V wba worked out sweet for the FA
Werner is perfect for next week. IF we can work on our passing from deep to release him and not play possession all the time. Look at how PSG got Mbappe his goals against Bayern tonight - that’s how we can see the best from Werner. The way we’re going we’ve learnt nothing from the Salah disaster and are well on course to history repeating.
After Foden
Yes, I agree. Have this discussion everyday with one of the lads in the office
Foden is good at pretty much everything shoot, volley, dribble, twist turn, tackle, solid in the challenge, do step overs, back heels, slide rule passes, he's strong, stays on his feet, has great pace and energy with a never say die attitude, that's one dimension I'd look for in any player.
Embarrasing comment.
Foden's movement is second to none and he is explosive. Mason Mount is similar to Lampard easy on the eye. If you need to win a game you are better off with Foden than Mount
My thoughts exactly.
wot rubbish that word worldy is. Typical footy thicko language that the punnets use all the time. Ive seen so many players do that. Its quite common nowadays by the ball players. keep a level head. Mount is xcellent but dont get 2 xcited like robbie etc. none of them have a badge. They were gud players but not gud enuf to b a coach.
After Foden
Id imagine Kane will be the first name on the sheet.
Both seem like "good" players but Foden is playing amongst outstanding teammates (like Sterling) for club & im not convinced Mount (whilst improving) stands out in the biggest games....so im still hoping to be convinced.

European Masterclass ????
Excellent match from the Blues. Obviously the real test comes in that second 90 when Porto are back at full strength, but there are worse positions to be in going in to a second leg.
Very true! Hopefully, Kante and Pulisic will be fully match fit. No disrespect to Porto but as organised as they are they carry far less goal threat than anyone else in the competition.
And don’t forget, with Havertz and Werner on the pitch we basically played with 9 men tonight ??

Not a Chelsea fan but I always like to see British teams do well in European football tournaments. Outplayed Porto and thoroughly deserved the win. Only half time but looks good for the semi finals for the blues ????

Haha. A man who managed Midlesborough (?) into relegation mediocrity.
It was a good response from Chelsea after the surprise scoreline at weekend, but although Tuchel likes the partnership of Jorginho and Kovacic I thought when Kante came on they had better control of the midfield. Btw what's with all the theatrics from Porto..? I swear if you got up and accidentally bumped into your TV set half of their players would fall over.
Portuguese teams are all the same! England v Portugal 2006 was incredible for play acting. Also I watched Italy v Portugal years ago and it was hilarious, no passage of play lasted longer than 30 seconds!
I'd take Walker, Trippier and Wan Bissaka over James and TAA at the moment.
The PL seems bad week to week but then you watch European teams and its a whole other level. You’d think the Porto players would have developed a bit more steel after a few training sessions with Pepe.
Luckily the ref didn’t fall for it as badly as others have - Mount’s ridiculous 1st minute card against AM.

PSG and Chelsea final, the other teams are looking second class.
As far as second class I disagree, RM looks very good, especially at the back.
Sorry I'm not having that, hopefully Chelsea can reach the final its football anything can happen
Man City are also serious contenders (and I don't support them).
Nice change for Jorgi to play a killer pass. Makes a change from v WBA when he was involved in most of the Baggies goals.
IMHO it wasn't the pass , it was Mount's swivel and gather that made an obvious pass look good

Brilliant Chelsea. Again proving why we are easily England's best and most successful club in Europe. As I said ages ago Chelsea to see off Real Madrid in the semi and set up an all English final with two BIG clubs unlike the embarrassment last time of lowly Liverpool and Spurs that damaged English football's reputation!

Only funny thing I have seen this season has been Liverpool's dismal defence. James nailed on starter. TAA not good enough for San marino let alone England!
I've read some embarrassing guff on this site but that made even me cringe.
Oh dear ash- a new low.
Oh dear ash- a new low.
For crying out loud Tuchel, leave Werner out of the team. The guy is shot to pieces. You do not re-establish confidence by continuing to play him. That is evidently not working, and the pressure to deliver is obviously too much for him. Give him a spell in the reserves, give him time to build back his confidence. He is a luxury we just cannot afford at the moment.
Reserves? What decade are you from? Name one player today that you know of who is made to play a run of games with the U23's. You actually think that would do him some good. Blimey.
Business as usual for the mighty blues
Foden is good, but one dimensional. Mount is the more complete player

Welcome Forest fan. Two Euro cups says you deserve to be in the prem.
As a Chelsea fan I don’t think we were great tonight tbh. It was a great result and we scored two very good goals, but if I was a Porto fan I’d be scratching my head how it was 2-0. We did defend well though and should go through now, but with the “home” leg at the same stadium, anything is possible. We’d have to play a lot better in the semi though if we do go though. Dreaming of a repeat of 2012!
After all that money Chelski have pumped on players I still think Porto will go through on away goal. Chelski won't risk being spanked and humiliated in the semis.

Nice to see a German coach and backed with load of Russian money doing well in Europe. Not sure about the shirts though some designs look cool an others best forgotten. A wins a win but far from convincing but a million miles better than loosing
It would have been nicer to see Frank still there, I think perhaps the players had decided to stop playing for him? Maybe players would have benefited from a dedicated sports psychologist to sort their heads out? Russian money comment its European competition you don't see British money buying a Russian club, The Russian money has been spent well on academy players. A wins a win long may it last
Let's not forget Chelsea are just a financially supped up everton. Chelsea are what everton are in Liverpool - not very successful.

There is no way on Gods Warthe that a team as crap as Porto should be in the Champions League. It shows how rubbish the Spanish League is. Madrid should be the only Spanish club allowed in - and England’s club allowance should be at least 8 if you do it on quality. Championship clubs should be allowed to compete in the Europa. Ridiculous.

I agree. MM's turn (and shot), excellent. But Jorgi's high percentage of successful passing results from his rarely risking a forward pass of any kind, let alone one hit at the right pace in the right place for MM to turn. Hence my remark.

Both fantastic clubs but LFC were in Div 2 for 5 years when Chelsea were champions and MU were relegated in the 70s as were Chelsea when the then board overspent on ground development, then had to sell our stars (that had just won us the FA cup against a terrific Leeds side and the following year winning the Euro Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid). A golden ticket? I call it destiny.
Just shows the result against WBA was not worth hysterical response it got from the BBC and other pundits. It’s already been forgotten an despite what the BBC reporter said last week it will not linger long in the memories of even WBA supporters. One victory does not a season make.
We march on

Werner and Havertz are the two worst forwards I’ve seen in the PL. Chelsea can not expect to win titles with Mount and company as goal scorers. Tuchel has to get rid of his compatriots and get some real forwards if he wants to win titles.

Potentially, yes! However, there seems to be a lack of goals in several players. That needs to change.
Fair play i thought chelsea were excellent tonight, from a hammer
Every single BBC piece regarding Chelsea for about a week mentions this training ground incident that Tuchel himself drew a line under and explained fully. It’s so irrelevant that to keep trying to leverage it for clicks/sensationalism is borderline negligent.
Result probably better then the performance but at this stage of the CL, you take what you can get!

Great result for Chelsea but the difference in referees is shocking, Porto pulled shirts dived all over and he was obviously oblivious to it all. Hope he isn't up for the return leg.
I had no problem with the ref, I thought he ignored most of their squealing and diving. I also thought he was very kind to us - I felt there was enough of a push by Aspi for them to have been given a penalty, could have pulled it back to 1-1.
Foden is good, but one dimensional. Mount is the more complete player
