How Gundogan defied rejection aged eight to become Man City's driving force
06/04/2021 | sport | football | 476
Ilkay Gundogan was rejected by his hometown team aged eight but is now a driving force in Manchester City's quadruple bid.

Gundogan always was a good player, the freedom he gets with the present defence that City have means he can be the box to box midfielder that he prefers to be rather than the defensive one he was.

City own this league. It must be really boring for you lot. We’re the richest club in the world and the game belongs to us and that’s just the way its going to stay for the foreseeable. Must be brutal for your lot though, fancy getting yourselves in half a billion of debt in order to challenge us and then finding out it was for naught. In the future you will only win what City allow you to win.

This may cause a bit of a stir, but when I look at Gundogan I see a right-footed David Silva.

He is excellent on the ball, keeps it very close to his feet and has a great eye for a pass. He makes the midfield tick. Great player.

The only thing he does differently is Gundogan plays the pass before the assist so doesn't get the stats in that sense.

Why do the FA allow small time debt-ridden clubs like yours even a voice? Chasing our success by constantly playing the game with the banks’ money, its cheating, financial doping. I’m sick of these clubs trying to raise money , piggy-backing on City’s success. If they haven’t got their own money they should shuffle off, know their place, and leave the game to those of us who can afford to compete.

Last season, with Fernandinho often playing at CB, Gundogan had to play a more defensive midfield role which doesn't really suit his best skills. This season playing further forward, sometimes even as a false nine, he's been a bit of a revelation. He deserves the limelight after suffering a few major injuries in his career that would have finished players with less character and determination.

Not sure why this is about Leeds, or money. Accountancy should be left to accountants; not to the media. 100M GBP is minimal in the recent history of EPL. If you look at balance sheets, you may get a more accurate picture of a club's finances. Bielsa does not really have a say on the monies available. Looks like Leeds sent it well though......

Not a City fan but love to watch them. They play football, not just to win, but with craft and style. When i first saw Gundogan play, a while ago, I thought he was one of City's best players.
