They have started off well too with wickets galore in the first hour of the games.

Yes bit of razzamatazz for a few weeks in Cricket keeping majority happy and engrossed.

Disappointing on the first day of the English County Championship the BBC's prime cricket headline was about the IPL.

I can't say I'll be watching much of it - the live CC feeds these days together with local Beeb commentaries are excellent so I will be glued to those but yes, I'll keep an eye on the form of the English players in India.

If IPL is your thing then I hope you enjoy it!

Our cricket heroes are back in India to pick up their wads of cash while the proper cricket starts off in England. You can't blame them, but such is the poverty in India that it doesn't sit right, taking what would be a lifetime's wage for most Indians for strapping on a pair of pads and having a swing for 6 weeks.

Really looking forward to this. Pretty much all the top players in the world and the depth in Indian cricket is staggering.

The success of the IPL seems to have contributed well to the Indian national side in all formats too as many young Indian players are breaking through.

Absolutely, John. What a ghastly mercenary spectacle. An abomination to anyone who loves the game. Crash, bang, dollar. Been avoiding it since it started. Pitiable nonsense. Who cares who hit what for whom ? It's just a charade made up by the grotesque,nouveau-riche caricature that Indian cricket has become. One of the great sporting non-events of all time. Agreed, Duncan, the prioritization used to be as follows:-

E) Franchise based cricket around the World

Somewhere along the line, "E" became the #1 priority.

A real shame Jofra Archer is likely to miss the whole IPl season. He was the MVP last season despite RR's collective failings.

The RR bowling attack particularly looks fragile but RR have some very good batsmen.

Relying too much on 1 player is a mistake. Doesn't matter what team sport it is.

Simplest way to win the IPL is fill your side with the power hitters from the West Indies - Dre russ, Evin Lewis, pollard one of them should come off and win you the game and back it up with the Indian bowlers. Maybe throw in buttler as wicket keeper for good measure.

It’s cricket for the 21st century unlike county cricket which is for the dark ages.

Only the most skilled players play in the IPL, many of those new supposed whacking shots have transferred into test cricket and made the spectacle a lot more interesting for the next generation of fans without whom the longer format of the game is dead.

Stand still and die or evolve and thrive that’s the choice

they play for money, not for cricket... Dale Steyn admitted it - he said other t20 tournaments (the LPL and PSL) are more rewarding, as there is more focus on cricket than the money

It doesn't matter, because the quality of the cricket is top class. Money is the best motivator, or you don't realise it?
