When will people realise that the US is an ally but not our 'friend' . They act of the basis of pure self interest and so should we. This spat is a smokescreen - £700 million per year is a drop in the ocean to what really should be paid in country. The big tech giants also stifle innovation and diversity - even the US will wake up to this one day (but it might be too late by then).
The far left have always counted these tech companies as their luvvies, just look at the recent presidential election to see how they stifled any reasonable debate against the dems.
The tech companies will get away with this for aslong as they grease the wheels of the far left democrats and SJW culture in general.

The US has never been Britain's friend.

Little Britain is on it's own.

That's what happens when you allow other countries, like America, Russia and Israel, access to your government in exchange for party donations.

The US has been blocking international consensus on this for a decade, if Biden is serious about winning international friends it is time to stop.

It is also a reality check that the US (like the EU) is not going to treat an economy one tenth it's size as an equal.
Size does matter especially if you have all the other accoutrements to go with it. Ironic that it is anti-tax hard right brexiters and Trump lovers who are objecting to this US action. Surely they should be praising the sovereign US for doing exactly what it wants without concern for anyone else? That at least would be consistent with their ideology.

True.
The Donald thought that being mega rich was the best way to win an election but he missed the trick: US media now rules the world. The likes of FaceAche and Twatter are the 21st century equivalents of Randolph Hearst. They are the influencers convincing people that regime change is good for citizens.
Change is good!

Why not? All companies need to do is pay for the services they use. If we, the public, want more, we, the public, should pay for it.

If only you could understand the meaning of hypocrisy....
The Church of England has less followers than many UK twitter accounts.
But they can send 26 bishops to the house of lords.
Perhaps social influencers could call their followers believers and register as a religion and thus become exempt tax. Plus they could send a few mates to the house if lords. Daft I know but so is the mess we are getting into over social media and the advertising revenues

I think pretty much what he said he would do

Brought China to the negotiating table which Biden will try to claim as his own success

He also said he wanted a deal with the UK

Biden do what I tell you or else

Very liberal and inclusive
Well he didn't "build the wall", not get any money from Mexico for some new fences! He didn't jail "crooked Hilary", nor did he "drain the swamp"! In fact he topped it up! His major promise he fulfilled was tax cuts for the wealthy! He started a trade war with China & a bromance with Putin & Kim! He actively encouraged white supremacists & organised insurrection against Congress! A real success!?? Removed

Its a temporary tax until a worldwide solution is found. If you buy something here - 1. which is made in and shipped from China (who makes money), to a 2. warehouse in England (who makes money) but 3. the middle man (who owns the products, markets it and profits from it) is in the USA.
Who pays tax?
I think it needs to be the consumer because tax at sale is controllable and the only way forward
All of them pay tax on their activities. It all depends on who owns what. My company's best market is the US. We pay zero US taxes. Our US distributor does pay US taxes. Removed

And there is VAT (sales tax) to pay by the consumer. Amazon pay taxes where the business is domiciled. UK distributors and consumers pay tax and so do manufacturers. If you want in you need to build another Amazon.

Should African countries start taxing large UK mining companies based on their turn over and profits in the UK just because they have deep pockets?

What a spiffing idea!

Just wouldn't want to find out having joined a "European Union" as you put it, that it was really an excuse for a few power mad individuals from insignificant countries, Lux Belgium etc etc, to absorb I dividual nations into an amorphous mass with national identity lost.. and then an anthem, and an army..

Then we would need to leave as they would bleed us dry .

Yet many Brits, especially english petty nationalists seem to prefer having a go at Biden rather than Trump. Why on why?
