Late goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne keep Manchester City on course for a quadruple with an FA Cup quarter-final win at Everton.
I love how the pundits at the end were saying this game shows how far Everton have come!!
Imagine parking the bus, and still losing 2-0 to a Man City team with half the starting 11 on the bench and that's "progress"

we won happy Saturday blues
Does this mean the quadruple is still on?
Closer than 0-2 suggests, Everton were tough. But it’s still on ... ???????? ??
Evertonian here. I hope you win the lot. Then everyone - I’m talking about the media, FA, PL - will have to give you some credit, unlike when you were the first team to win the domestic treble, but got zero recognition. Why? Because the cultists heroes, whose pockets they are all in won the (non-c L) against a mediocre PL team in the same season. Good luck mate.

As a non- City fan, you just have to admire their professionalism. Not a spectacle today but their tenacity to win shines through.
Another trophy less season for Everton then ??
Small club syndrome ??

Very tough and workman like from both sides. But the breakthrough came before extra time so great win City.
On to the next one.

Everton..a team full of grafters today..thought they left everything on the pitch but need to introduce some quality now!!..well played against the best in Europe!
A City team with 6 members of their starting 11 on the bench!
How good are City if teams are happy losing 2-0 to their back up players!

What is the point of Steve McManaman?
Bayern is best team in europe unless proven otherwise. Mere fact
Well, - at least you have the gonads to admit what is becoming more obvious by the second... City are the BEST team in EUROPE
EFC is still a project and Ancelotti has 3 more years on his contract to improve that. No one is expecting instant success, its a slow process of getting a better team and squad.
Every team in the EPL are setting up similar when playing City, and City are flying at the moment. 2-0 loss with both goals in the last 10mins is a good result against them right now.

26 years and no trophy! Imagine having the nerve to criticise anybody else with an embarrassing statistic like that. The fans will be back to their usual hiding places I suspect.

Bad luck Bitters but you ARE on the way back as for City WHO CAN STOP THEM? Anyone but Manyoo for the cup thanks
Surprised at your last sentence. Everyone at Old Trafford holds you in high regard.
Everyone raves about Pep but until he wins the league and FA Cup double, he’ll never be regarded as one of English football’s greatest managers.
Hi Connor...will the treble do instead???? because he did that 2 years ago
God Lockdown = dumbdown

Sorry mate we dont do doubles , trebles and quadruples are our mission .
He did that two seasons ago!! Now it's Champions League he's looking for.
Remember the days when City were in the lower leagues? How we all crave a sugar daddy! It’s a shame their success isn’t merited but you can’t deny the football is a joy to watch, regardless of how they’ve got their

It amazes me that the BBC report constantly about MC bench, yet all those years ago when MU were buying titles the BBC did not once mention what a luxury it was to have 6 or 7 world class players sat on the bench and in the reserves..
How many home grown players in this City squad? Buying titles my foot!
Typical BIASED BBC. DO.ONE
You mean using the money that came through the gate to pay 1 million for Cantona, the class of 92 and the little fact that a graduate of the United youth team has been in every match since 1937. And since 2005 the owners have been taking 100 million out of the club each season.
That's because BBC are in love with United and Liverpool, and have been for years, the Beeb wanted to be associated with United because of the SIR Alex manager position. I read all the time with terrible comments by Liverpool and United supporters on HYS, I write and say some truths, and they are not allowed to be posted!!!
The difference is United could/can afford to buy by legit means, Citeh just break the FFP Rules knowing they can afford to drag it through court for years. And THAT JJ is why whatever Citeh achieve really doesn't matter. MU's biggest rivals are Liverpool who do things the right way.
In the past Man U, Arsenal, and Liverpool partly bought success, but they used THE MONEY THEY GENERATED from gates and merch. Citeh and Chel$ki rely on gifts disguised in ways to cheat FFP. If their sugar daddies go, neither of those two could afford their own wage bills from money they generate. Trying to Recreate spanish state sponsored football in the Prem.
BBC moved their headquarters to be within 500 metres of MUFC.
Since then not had much success. Thank you BBC.
Since then not had much success. Thank you BBC.
Just enjoy your own success and worry less about other teams, you have an excellent team.
If you are going to compare then get the facts right by checking out what other teams spent in the same seasons. Plus Utd used funds from how they performed on the pitch, same as Liverpool back in the '70s and '80s.

That’s just nonsense. Man Utd never had this much strength in depth. Unless you count Nicky Butt, Jesper Blomqvist and Wes Brown as world class...
Oh yes, all those years with 3 different world class United teams built around bargain signings & the class of 92 eh.
City spending a billion pound of some sugar daddy's cash on players in a decade & moving from hopeless irrelevant also-rans to suddenly buying trophies for fun is *exactly* the same isn't it #rolleyes
Of *course* it is dear, of course it is.

They don’t understand that the correlation to onfield success is player wages and get stuck up on transfer fees which is what makes the news. It’s been that way since at least the 60s and possibly earlier.
Also regardless of whether you field 10 academy players plus one recruited player by definition that one recruit means you’ve ‘bought’ a title.

Sterling on the pitch for 80 minutes, no goals. Off the pitch for 10 minutes, two goals. Does Pep keep picking Sterling just to make a game of it?
Sterling is garbage , really hope we sell him in Summer , he is so one dimensional , he hasnt improved , gone backwards .
I'm with you all the way on Sterling, he is playing awful at present. Should not be starting. That laugh and smile he has when he misses a sitter drives me nuts.
No, but it could be argued that his contribution was instrumental in wearing down the Everton defence prior to the goals coming .
Everton (the people’s club) lose to a team assembled with £2Bn of donations from a middle east regime.
Is this really football or just whoever spends the most “wins” ?
City will bottle it in Europe though. As usual.

You know very little about Abu Dhabi obviously.
Dab3
Everton squad all recruited from Croxteth, Toxteth and Speke. No Littlewoods money anymore for the people’s club. Donations? Investment that’s paying off.
Forget the oil money, it takes more than costly signings to win (Barca, Madrid, PSG, Leicester too but winning without the money!). The team is fluid, easy on the eye and look to play football (not park the bus and counter like Jose).
Only real positive from that for Everton is the young lad, Virgina, had a decent game. Couple of decent saves, good distribution and can be pleased with his performance.
Coming up to 40 years since Everton last won a trophy (1984 European Cup Final v Rapid Vienna on pens in Rome).
Simply not good enough for a club that claims to be big.
As Shankly said, the 2 best teams on Merseyside are Liverpool and Bootle Town FC.

We were still in it until the last 10 mins, but City are relentless and the result was a forgone conclusion in the end. Great effort toffees COYB ??
You can't have both "been in it till the last 10mins" AND the result have been a "foregone conclusion"...
Congratulations to City.
I can’t fault our gameplan. We had enough set pieces to score. We missed Keane who wins the most attacking headers in our team at set pieces.
The Keeper and Godfrey were outstanding and they all put in a shift.
Their bench though is superb and makes a difference when everyone is tiring.
Hardly anyone is beating them as one defeat in 26 tells you.

Quadruple Quadruple Quadruple or for Liverpool mid table mid table
Its a fair comment, had City held their nerve in previous CL knockout games (Spurs, Lyon) then we may have gone on to greatre things, but I'm a believer in "you live and learn" and at some point, the bottling will stop. Maybe this year?
Clearly there is at the very least, a "chance". But thanks for your input. It's been valuable.

It’s their only point of attack. City are so brilliant they’ve nothing else to complain about.
There was a time when City had NO MONEY! At that time, the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd had wealthy Investors/Shareholders and were cleaning
up trophies. City as a club didn’t complain about it at the time, so why all the poison and nonsense now
they are! It is noticeable when MC have a candidate for office at UEFA/FIFA it is always turned down. That cannot be a coincidence!

Jesus is not a City quality player, I’m very surprised Aguero isn’t getting more game time to help get him up to speed, we all know Aguero is quality when fit. Anyway, I have a feeling Pep will regret it later in the season - specially in the champions league.
Jesus is not comparable with Aguero whom I make my first CHOICE as long as he fit
Have no fear, Pep is saving Sergio.
Ancelotti got that spot on tonight but City are just too good atm.
They’re exceptional.

MC sub made the difference they deserved after all better team won it
DeBruyne was like a line of chop for City. They just surged. I think it will take a maniacal midfielder with a twin brother to stop them. Hang on! Kante you hear it on the wind?
What’s wrong with oil? Used by everyone in some form.
Look up football history, before making a nonsense comment like that!
Yes. All the players at City get 200 litres a week.
You know what to do? Stop filling your car up with petrol / diesel. Evertime you do, its paying for our next trophy....
Pathetic comment
I don’t think Everton can complain at the effort they put in today... City are very formidable side.
Everyone raves about Pep but until he wins the league and FA Cup double, he’ll never be regarded as one of English football’s greatest managers.
As soon as Raheem sterling went off goals started coming in (Obviously De Brunner was involved but still). Foden should replace Raheem Sterling permanently, Raheem sterling is good but not a good passer and finisher. He always wastes good opportunities.
?? Pep should rest Sterling in big or knockout matches, at least at the moment, until he back to his best, Gabriel still not a good finisher, Bernardo Silva and Mahrez are more dangerous when they play together on the same side.
I agree with you talalg, Sterling is doing nothing at present and does not deserve to start.
Is that why he was City's top scorer last season?
Probably likely scenario, but Raheem will still be needed to play his part for the rest of the season, shame his confidence appears to have left him for now, at least .
Sterling's finishing does need improving, but not a good passer??? You must have been watching tennis for the last 5 years.
Been saying that for six years.. He's a winger really who can't cross or an outside forward who can't finish..
Not a good passer and finisher ? What are you talking about ?
So because he goes off after 80 min and Man City happen to then score you decide he's an average player ?
Shows you no nothing about the game. I'll let Pep decide whose going to start each game he's obviously doing something right and its a good job you're not picking the side.

I was rather hoping City would throw the Cup and concentrate on the title and the CL. I think a quadruple is impossible and so does Pat Nevin, even with City's squad depth.
Sadly they won't claim the CL - they don't have the 'top table' mentality to win the big one.
Strain favourites for the domestic treble. I'm afraid they don't have the big club mentality to claim the CL - all that oil money and pep knows its probably beyond him. Blobbed it at Bayern too.
It’s a big ask to do the quadruple! Huge.
Physically demanding and mentally tiring. Would take a monumental effort to achieve the quadruple. Possible.
Physically demanding and mentally tiring. Would take a monumental effort to achieve the quadruple. Possible.
The mighty spurs will derail that. I have no doubt. We have the form and the gaffer. And son the city destroyer. Bring it on i say. What's that, we lost 3-0 to Zagreb. Erm scrap that
Probably end up with just the PL and league cup, I think the quadruple is beyond them.
They may win the domestic cup trinkets but not the big one
But also 4 bad games from just winning the League, in there day Tottenham, Man Utd, Leicester and Chelsea are capable if beating City and in Europe anyone could beat anyone of the teams left
Man City will slip up somewhere en route ! only Man Utd and Liverpool have won three trophies in one season and you need some luck on the way. I don't think Man City will win the CL, which to them is the Golden Fleece !!
If you’re not enjoying watching this City team you’re not a football fan,
No big wow! They buy all the good players! It’s like bringing a Camry to a Ferrari race! Or a knife to a gun fight! Or bringing fish & chips to a food contest! Or comparing horrible British weather with Barbados! Or wearing high heels to a 100m sprint! Or, putting out the fire by urinating on it. So, no big wow if MC or MU or Chelc win! They can only win CL if they are 200%! CL doesn't like them!
City's posession and short based game is boring, its just pass after pass.
Very skillful team but boring to watch, lack out and out excitement, just like Barcelona. Give me the Wimbledon days for excitement
IMO, if City win the quadruple, football is not worth watching. Let's hope for a miracle, either every team actually pulls their fingers out their backsides and beat (draws are not good enough!) them, not to mention pray that all their best players get injuries, not career ending, just long enough to miss the rest of the season.
It's not the actual Citeh team people dislike.
It's how the fans have turned into everything they used to hate, they LOATHED buying titles pre 2008, it's all the went on about for Utd.
Also being ran by a group with woeful human rights records.
Also the FFP scandals...TWICE
And now brushing paedophilia under the carpet.
It really is an awful club

I don't like watching oil money FFP cheaters.
Or you're a Bayern Munich fan numbed by City's style of play, only for it to go nowhere in Europe. That's EXACTLY what happened at Bayern Munich under Guardiola. Beautiful football to the eye, which took them nowhere against José Enrique's Barcelona and Ancelotti's Real Madrid. It's also why Bayern hired Ancelotti right after Guardiola left.
the stadiums are empty and you say that, very plastic attitude

Ben Godfrey was immense tonight. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side.
City were pretty dire to be honest. Maybe suffering from fatigue.

Because they are obsessed with us. They have no soul, so they have no joy. They win things but would rather obsess over us than enjoy their success. They have to hate us because they wouldn’t exist if we hadn’t moved from Mordor. They hate it. Oh yes they do!
Because, during the 60's we started to come out of their shadow! We were OK while we were The poor relations of the City, then suddenly we overtook them & leftbthem in our wake. During the 90's it got so bad, they had to rely on "'Nartid" in order to bring any joy into their Grey existence

The fact is Evertonians are really obsessed with us. There have been a few occasional times when both teams are playing at the same time and they ignore, the Everton game. They also proudly carry a large banner with a picture of Saville and in capitol letters JIMMY SAVILLE IS A RED. Disgusting and normal behaviour from them. Google it. We face constant aggressive and outright abuse from them

BBC Salford hating the early class team that is MC . Not always a delight to watch but they keep winning and turning in performance after performance. Bore off Matt. Have a look back at the thread of any defeats of the big six and you'll see loads 'Infecting a HYS' about them.
When the small teams lose, people usually don't give it a second thought, until tonight, and you can't hack it!!!

Atleast Liverpool’s players didn’t celebrate winning the league by singing about rival’s fans being battered in the streets...

Everton beat Watford in the cup final in 1984, so it has to be 1985 when they won the ECWC against Rapid.
I pay my tv licence and I pay my internet provider BT!!!! Why oh why do I have to subsidise jolly days out for THREE COMMENTATORS AT THE MATCH!! nevermind the 3 in the studio. Why does Ian Darke need 2 pundits???? Its disgsuting waste of fee payers money.ANSWERS Needed!! no phoney excuses. They are paid handsomely for their services

Life's going to be really really bad for you - your post is the clue
as the Blues go marching on week after week, trophy after trophy and we still have loads of money whilst the other big 4 crash financially due to COVID

Leeds fan here. I hope Man. City buy Haaland and Mbappe this summer. I just find all the carping and moaning from the previous top spenders in the South and in the North West not only unbelievably hypocritical, but also really funny. When I hear M. City have bought an expensive player, I have a really good chuckle because I know what's going to be spouted on here. Leave Raphinha alone though. :)
It's okay, Raphinha is going to Liverpool.
They won't buy both. FFP will not allow it. Haarland is affordable if City break their ban on paying much over than 60 mil for a player
Very true. City's most expensive signing cost sixty million.
Top Man CTID
ManC fan.
It's looking like both players are going to be out of City's reach owing to astronomical (even by PL standards) wage demands...
Also, to be fair, the likes of Madrid are a better draw. Truly globally iconic club (City a long way from that, yet) in a country with nicer weather and a European outlook rather than an insular one.

Mbappe won’t go there, he will want to sign for a bid side like Real Madrid or Barcelona
Couldn't agree more Chelsea Arsenal Liverpool and Man u have never spent money or poached other teams beat players eg Rio Ferdinand have they now ?
Now then, that wont do - remember theres FFP to be considered.
I though Leeds were famouse for Rugby, do they play football too?
Yes .........and look at all the replies you've had lol all from the red quarters of Liverpool and Manchester
City WON'T be buying anyone this summer, FFP coming back to sort them out properly this team, sick and tired of their unpunished cheating
They may be without trophies for some years but Evertonians show more class than the red side of the City. From a neutral
A non sensical comment unless you know every single supporter of both clubs
How did you work that out. Let me guess , you hate Liverpool so by default the scruffs are are better . You should buy a dictionary and look up neutral
Yeah like the classy songs they used to sing about Steven Gerrrards kids.
to be fair they are far more used to failure so it's easier to shrug and say at least we tried. More than Spurs can say this week mind you, hat was that all about.
The team that beat you 2-0 you mean?
Look every the Director of the ONS...on a HYS. Who knew?
Evertonians have has thirty or forty years in Liverpool's shadow to digest the true meaning of irony !!!
Wish we had another 9 Ben Godfreys , honest hard working total will to win, didn't roll around or feign injury, are you listening Richarlison, your play acting is embarrassing
Trouble is , you will have to find someone to create and score at some point .
Richarlison has clearly been corrupted by Neymar's antics on the Brazilian national team. That's why he keeps play acting.
Oh yes, well done oilers.
His car ran out of petrol.
Good call.
I wanted blues to win.... arrogant city "best in world" ...never even been best in Europe YNWA
All Football fans appreciate a good live game, played by whomever, as I found when I started to watch my local team (Radcliffe Borough). The joy of watching the goal scored live, is just the same, except when you can watch it from 97 angles and have some idiots explaining why it was good bad or indifferent.
Yes it would as they are the best owners any club could wish for
Have a good look at your rulers - very popular at the moment with numerous scandals to face

Yep they did well against our 3rd choice goalkeeper
We dont have a first 11 , we have a squad that is utilised according to who we are playing and who is next in line , rest and rotation takes care of keeping everyone involved .
Very good ,they took the title 2 seasons ago from a liverpool team who dopped only dropped a point toward the end, City dropped none. & This season they trounced Liverpool.
not a strong counter i see.other than the keeper it was arguably their strongest team at this moment.aguero is not match fit and de bruyne has been pretty poor recently to his current standards.other than that it was their strongest team.
they are not "back-up players" though, Pep uses the whole squad to achieve the win, he plays players with particular skill sets to defeat an opponent.
it is amazing to see.
forget 'money spent' jealous comments from opposing fans, these players are round pegs in round holes; and if he needs a square peg, they change shape. that's what Pep brings to any team, no matter how talented - cohesion.

The accountancy page is on another section of the website for those obsessed with having no money
Dogged defending.
Then Ilkay Gundogan, pops up again. Poaching..
He’s a natural born striker at heart. Some player..
Some goal from Kevin de Bruyne too.
Manchester City deserved it...??
