Impressive Ireland thump dismal England

Ireland produce an outstanding display to overcome an ill-disciplined England 32-18 in the Six Nations despite Bundee Aki's red card.

That comment and this thread cheered me up after a very depressing match! There is no light at the end of the tunnel and we deserve all the mocking.

Showed no ambition in Autumn and none here. The embarrassing thing is the arrogance in thinking we could win despite half the team not playing club rugby and we could grind our way through. Beating France was the worse thing that could have happened!

Guess it's not so easy to win games against 14 men is it? Maybe now the English and their media will pipe down, 5th in the championship with negative points difference and a record penalty count against them. I doubt it though, they'll still be touted as favourites next year and as well as their players being overrated for the Lions.

21/03/2021 12:59:28 0 0

Yes.....the trouble is that the players are so over-trained and scared that any individual sparkle is driven out. Look at Capriani and, unfortunately, why Marcus Smith cannot get a look-in under the current regime - although the latter needs to sharpen up his defence a bit. I think skill, enterprise and attack mindsets are needed in future - something EJ doesn’t have.

First things first - well played Ireland. Woodward spot on on ITV, England haven't learned from or improved since the World Cup final. Jones's odd selections, leaving out form players like Sam Simmonds, Marcus Smith etc and the on field poor discipline should cost him his job. England now need to look to fresh ideas to build to 2023.

Fully agree EJ needs to go he’s had his day but when a team just keeps making the same mistakes every game he’s clearly lost the changing room.It seems he only likes to pick players from the bottom end of the Prem. He has lost some very good players to other countries and completely refuses to pick on form.He arrogantly saidhe could manage with 28 and the Sarries would be ok proved wrong bye bye.

It's the front 5 that are not good enough. Simmonds, Smith etc would make no difference. If the front 5 can't scrummage you will be under pressure and give penalties away. They look ok in a fast free flowing game , but aren't good enough in an arm wrestle.

ITV commentator at the end of the IRE/ENG game

"and now it's the end of this spectator-less six nations".

Err, no. Grand Slam and 2nd place still to play for and two games to play. Deplorable.

Got pelters for not agreeing FRA/ENG was the best game of the 6N. Certainly was for England.

Well played Ireland. Solid performance.

Thank you for a memorable 2016, a simply brilliant performance over NZ in that semi final but its time to go Eddie Jones. Most penalties conceded this tournament: England. Most turnover conceded: England. Fewest tries scored behind Italy: England, most tries conceded behind Italy: England. While every other team has been building and blooding young players in the last 2 years, what have we done ?

Eddie Jones has won 3 6N, 1 GS, 1 Autumn Nations Cup and has the 2nd highest win ratio of any England coach. We've been abject this tournament. But childish reaction sackings are not the way forward. People with this attitude would have sacked Pivac last year. They were terrible - now on the verge of a GS. Think first.

I have been a vocal supporter of EJ throughout this 6N as I believe he is a good 4 year cycle man who knows how to peak when it really matters but based on today it’s hard to disagree with you. They are a hard team to watch. The volume of penalties is embarrassing and with the talent England posses they should be winning the 6N or very close. We certainly shouldn’t be getting beaten so easily

The performance of the England Backline has been so inconsistent in this tournament and, you can sense the frustration as individuals are struggling with their form. I'm a wales fan but England need to get some players on the pitch that have a rugby brain and can adapt to the game as it happens. They also need some kind of leadership on the field to stop all these imfringements. It doesn't matter how good you are if you gift point and field position to the other team. England's players don't just get bad overnight - its the game plan/manament

England got lucky against France with a dodgy refereeing decision. Thumped by Wales and Scotland and now comprehensively trounced by 14 man Ireland despite another dodgy decision going in England’s favour. Record points conceded and all this with the biggest player base by far of all the home nations. If the Lions squad was being picked tomorrow I don’t think any English players would be selected.

"and now it's the end of this spectator-less six nations".

Err, no. Grand Slam and 2nd place still to play for and two games to play. Deplorable.

Got pelters for not agreeing FRA/ENG was the best game of the 6N. Certainly was for England.

The squad is simply not working - something is missing and it's difficult to see what that that is. They don't go out there to deliberately play badly. Ireland played better from 1 to 10. When England get into a scoring position they make basic errors, they don't need to do that. The game up front doesn't need to be played at breakneck speed - composure brings control - Ireland had that today.

Better team won - well done Ireland!

England were dismal and directionless.

However, the Referee was woefully inconsistent: why ping England at the ruck for sealing off the ball and then never revisit that offence when the green shirts persistently do the same?

RFU must step in and sack Eddie - he has over coached the team to the point they can’t play the game in front of them. He is a control freak who has turned us into robots which is why Farrel, Ford etc keep getting picked because they do as he tells them. Not one player in the Lions team for me and they should be furious he has ruined their chances with his control obsession.

Guess it's not so easy to win games against 14 men is it? Maybe now the English and their media will pipe down, 5th in the championship with negative points difference and a record penalty count against them. I doubt it though, they'll still be touted as favourites next year and as well as their players being overrated for the Lions.

England were outclassed and outplayed in every facet of the game. Ireland dominated tactically and technically playing with power, pace and execution of the basics. The Irish forwards came to battle and absolutely crushed England. Sexton and Murray dominated Ford and Youngs and for me Keith Earls was a bettering ram with a brilliant try. Owen Farrell simply not good enough. Sexton still the man.

Time the RFU took control and sacked Jones and brought in a coach with some vision and definitely someone looking at the World Cup in 2023. To continue selecting players from Saracens who have no match fitness tells you - or should do - a lot about the lack of ambition that Jones has. The first England have lost to Wales; Scotland and Ireland in one championship since 1976 doesn't bear thinking of

It’s not just Irish eyes which are smiling. With defeats to Scotland, Wales and now Ireland, it would gave been the most wooden of spoons for England back in the old Four Nations days. How on earth did Eddie’s underachievers fall so far, so fast. Very enjoyable to watch, though.
