Rest well Champ !
One of the greatest I’ve seen.
And absolute legend. His fight against Hearns is the best fight I ever saw. Heck, I still rewatch it every now and again! RIP.
The ultimate short fight - perhaps only Dempsey-Firpo can match that iconic first round for action.
Fantastic first round. I thought the KO was a bit soft ...until I saw it slowed down.
That bout was certainly worth the detention I got for not doing my maths homework that night. I was only 10, but it felt iconic at the time - even the shorts, like two kings, of the ring.
Very sad news. The GOAT.
I watched his fight against Tony Sibson a few days ago on YouTube.
Thank you Marvelous Marvin Hagler. My favourite fighter of all time. He looked like he meant business - and he delivered. A true legend.
RIP.

As a Kid I was glued to the telly for the whole fight against Hearns
i watched it last week,
Watched that fight at a cinema in Leicester square London....Before sky sports...what an atmosphere 50% for Hagler 50% for Hearns......OMG the 1st round incredible ....RIP thanks for the memories
In that golden age of middleweight boxing with Leonard, Hearns and Duran, the one you’d bet your life on to beat them all was Hagler. Can’t believe it.
i have the hagler v herns fight saved on youtube to re watch after i get fed up watching some of the modern day fights
a real warrior and a true legend that didnt back down from no one
a real warrior and a true legend that didnt back down from no one
Who keeps downvoting all these comments?
That first round was epic... the best EVER... unforgettable.
RIP Champ! ??
RIP Champ! ??
Absolutely mate,,,MH and TH where much better than Leonard, but not as flashy and didn’t court media so they always shout about SRL
Round 1 was one of the most brutal and unforgettable rounds in boxing. The days of Hagler, Leonard, Hearns and Duran were the best
Farewell to one of the greatest boxers of all time - Marvelous Marvin Hagler you were awesome
Such sad news.
I remember all his classic fights against Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns. One of the greats.

Gutted is the best way to describe it. For me the mavelous one was the greatest fighter I have seen in my life time.Fight with Hearns will go down in history as the greatest 3 rounds in boxing.Skill, power, determination he had it all. They don't make fighters like him anymore much the pitty. He would eat all today's middleweights alive.RIP Marvin destruction and destroy GOAT

Second greatest after Ward v Gatti Round 9 in their first fight.
It's certainly up there, but greatest round? I don't know if I would agree. Greatest 1st round then I'm definitely with you. Either way he was certainly a legend at a time when boxing was boxing.
Rip Marvellous Marvin
One of the greatest boxers in an era full of great fighters and a member of the fab 4 at that time along with Leonard Duran and Hearns

One of the greatest fighters ever. Marvelous indeed. RIP.
Who
When the term legend is thrown about - he is included in that.
Hagler fought at the peak of the division against some of the best boxers of any era. The 1st round v Hearn is probably the best first round of any fight ever.

Any reason why Hagler never fought at other weight divisions like the other legendary boxers did during that era
Ali giving George a right hand lead in jungle...
Lol...
First punch n tried to knockout George....
No greater dis in boxing...

I can't believe it, he was so healthy. Some have mentioned a reaction to a Covid jab???

V Hearns was the greatest tear up ever. None of this hugging and come dancing nonsense.
Sad news and so young. Saw the Hearns fight live Hammersmith Odeon, most intense three rounds I ever watched. RIP Marvelous.
We have lost an absolute legend R.I.P
From what was surely THE golden era of boxing, Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran.
Very sad news.
Very sad news.
An era when most sports fans could name the world champs in most weights. Can only name about 2 these days.....
That four produced some of the greatest fights ever.
Different styles but evenly matched.
Doubt we will see anything like that again.
R.I.P. Marvelous!

R.I.P. Marvelous!
Gutted, his battles with the hit man were what gave me my love of boxing. Both legends! RIP ??
BattleS Webby? They only met once, that incredible 3 rounder. Hagler met several guys twice, our own Finnegan, Antuofermo, Hamsho, Obelmejias, but he only fought the other Golden Age guys once, a narrow win v Duran (one of Duran's 2 best performances), the Hearns battle, then the SRL loss.
I think he was the hardest man in boxing ,he won the ray leanard fight , he hammered hearns whimwas an awesome fighter from the Kronk gym , I met Hesrns in Detroit in 1985 a charming humble man , didn’t ask for his autograph an all the rubbish ,Marvin was my favourite fighter there was the 4 Roberto Duran Ray Leonard Tommy the Hesrns And the great marvelous Marvin , he will always be the best ever
Such sad news. Hagler was the most exciting middleweight I ever saw. An awesome fighter, in the original and genuine meaning of the word awesome.
The greatest middleweight I agree and MMM deserves massive respect and until recently studying the fab four fights he was my no.1, but as Duran was the natural lightweight of the four he now imho is pound for pound the man.
Such sad news. A great champion, and a dignified person. RIP.
Marvellous Marvin. Part of a special era along with Robinson Hearns and Duran. Will go down as one of the G.O.A.T.
R.I.P Champ
R.I.P Champ
A true warrior. RIP Marvin. Without doubt one of the greatest fighters.
My favourite MW ... gave me so many great memories ... the perfect MW IMO .. Yup .. preferred him to Robinson ... he fought them all .. never dodged anyone .. how it should be
Class act inside and outside the ring.
RIP “MARVELOUS” MARVIN HAGLER
Class act inside and outside the ring.
RIP “MARVELOUS” MARVIN HAGLER
The greatest ever at his weight, robbed against Leonard and had the class to walk away and deprive the corrupt authorities of the money from the rematch.
RIP Marvellous.
RIP Marvellous.
Well go watch the Post fight conference. I guess the hugely swelled up face was just an allergic reaction. Get over it. SRL out boxed him
It was extremely close, no robbery involved, I’ve changed my mind over the years, I think Leonard edged it, although I wouldn’t be surprised if I change it back again when I watch it today.
Sadly threw the 1st 3 rounds fighting orthodox - he would have looked back at that and regretted them 9 mins. Still a close close fight but SRL had the crowd ( he lived off that ) plus sentiment was on his side. MMH had waited for him ... it was supposed to have been his moment - sadly for MMH ... SRL did the eye catching stuff that swung the scorecards his way. Great occasion mind you. RIP Champ.
Leonard dodged Hagler for years, waited till he got old, fought in a bigger ring over less rounds. Then he spent the whole fight on his back foot throwing flash combos that looked good but hit arms. Leonards approach to the fight is the complete opposite to how Hagler fought his whole career. Brilliant fighter....
No Leonard won, boxed clever landed more shots(not powerful) on Hagler by basically back pedalling for most of the fight. You could see Hagler's frustration. If Leonard had stood toe to toe with Hagler he would have been destroyed. Thats boxing, different styles and tactics
Wow. You know your fight history. I fully agree on the corruption in boxing. Hagler had that fight won until money stepped in.
Lots of pro Leonard talk in here. He was decent but not an all time great fighter - just had a few good wins. Never “held” a division the way Hagler did, cherry picked title fights (even winning 2 weight division titles in 1 fight), and got heavily beaten towards the end of his career. Lots of talent, bravery etc - but not as good as Hagler. True boxing fans know this.
Robbed agaist Vito Antuofermo in his first attempt at the World title. Thats 2 defeats that can be scrubbed
No DaveR, he was not "robbed". Close fight, but SRL was bright enough to not fight like the Hagler/Hearns shoot-out. SRL could adapt his style, & as at least one comment on here says, check Hagler's face at the end, all puffed up. A lot of Hagler's shots hit fresh air, as SRL would not helpfully stand still in front of him, & another comment highlighted the Hagler error, orthodox first 3 rds.
Can’t understand all the arguments over who won. Two of the greatest boxers ever in a close fight. Maybe with different judges it may have gone the other way, but that’s life. I just loved watching the middleweight division in the 80’s. 4 great champions and when they fought each other the bout could have gone either way. Great days!
Totally agree. I liked Leonard but the marvelous one was always the MAN and was robbed
Sorry, but he was not 'robbed'. It was a fair points decision, not the Montreal Screw Job.
Marvellous Marvin was great ,but Sugar Ray Robinson was the nonpareil of fighters at any weight
Completely agree. Leonard spent virtually all the fight running away. Hagler was brutal in the ring and a class act out of it.
I don't think he was robbed against Leonard, it could have gone either way. Leonard cpuld never hurt Marvin, and MH was well past his best, his decline was evident in his previous fight against Mugabe a year earlier. The mistakes have already been mentioned, 12 rounds instead of 15, large ring and hagler changing stance after 3 rounds. RIP.
Sad news, still love to watch the first round of hagler v hearns fight to this day, classic.
Legends are dropping like flies today. RIP Marvin
Hagler, Sugar Ray, Hearns and Duran. Those were the days!
Never has being 50 years old felt so good as remembering them days of Marvellous, Sugar Ray, Hitman and Duran. If you weren’t old enough you have no idea how great boxing was.
During the 80s, we were spoilt with all time legends and I do mean all time legends... Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Sugar Ray and Tyson. And it was free viewing too!
It was a privilege to be of an age where I could see those boxers in their prime. Absolute legends of boxing.
RIP Marvellous Marvin.
RIP Marvellous Marvin.
These four produced some of the greatest fights ever seen. Hagler/Hearns was the best fight ever, there was more action, power and skill shown in just less than 3 full rounds than in most fights of today.
The greatest punch of all time has to be the right hand from Hearns that knocked Duran out on his feet. RIP MH

Hagler, Sugar Ray, Hearns and Duran and Duran Duran.
Hats off to Marvin . Even though Sugar Ray Leonard was my favourite of this fantastic four . RIP MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER ????????
Do you own a Barbers shop called My T Sharp? ??
Rest in Peace Champ.
Both marvelous in and out of the ring.
IMO, the best middleweight of all time and certainly had the best chins ever!!!
To this day people use his quote:
"Hard to wake up and go for a run when your wearing silk pajamas"
You are gonna be really missed. RIP

never have been into boxing but watched him destroy Alan Minter, Was amazing.
he was up with the greatest
I implore any posters on here, fake or otherwise, to seek out this master of his craft. What an astonishing boxer. Sleep well mucker, you made the craft respectable.
87 marvin v sugar ray... Wow memories of that fight as a 12 year old kid... RIP Marv..
Devastated.
My #1 fighter of all time, hard as nails.
The greatest MW from the greatest era of MW’s, the finest of all weight divisions. Punch like a heavy, dance like a ballet dancer.
God bless “Marvelous,” thank you.

Personally, I have SSR over MMH. Don't forget that SSR had over 200 fights. I appreciate that you think that SSR was better at Welterweight, but you could easily argue that he was better at middleweight. He (SRR) had silky skills that nobody had ever had before or since.
Hagler's fight with Hearns is the best three rounds you will see.
Ever.
And how Leonard got the decision I will never know.
Marvin arguably the greatest middleweight of all time.

Robbed by the illusion of SRL, best middleweight I ever saw fight.
Hagler as a member of the fabulous four gave boxing its greatest ever era.
RIP Marv. He gained his World titles at Wembley Arena in 1980 when beating Alan 'boom boom' Minter in a short brutal demolition in 1980.
Sweetie Leonard only won because they thought Marvellous would demand a rematch if he won it would never have happened, decision was purely financial nothing to do with the actual fight.
19-1 in my favour right now so take your leonard tinted goggles off.
19-1 in my favour right now so take your leonard tinted goggles off.
I don't think so. Hagler was robbed he beat Leonard that night. At the least it should have been a draw. No way Marvin lost that fight. RIP Marvin you were indeed Marvellous.
Leonard won the contest, but he could hardly have been considered to have 'beaten' Hagler - he avoided close contact and won largely with jabs as he back-peddled.
Haggler was a true great but so was Leonard, it was a close call but be respectful, he was not robbed!!!
nonsense you talk, even forgetting the context under which you make such a dumb comment
You're supposed to take the title from the champion, if Hagler had stood still in the middle of the ring, there wouldn't have been a fight, Leonard never stopped going backwards.
No, but Hagler DID beat Leonard, didn't he. As somebody else said on here the split decision was purely about money and nothing at all to do with what actually happened in the ring. I'm afraid that is how professional boxing works sometimes, especially in the USA.
Only because Leonard spent the whole fight running away. I remember watching and felt cheated of a fight
Ooook Professor.
I agree - it was a case of the stylist versus the juggernaut, and the stylist won. SRL might not have been as tough or as strong, but he was the more skilful; and to me, that's what boxing is all about.
sad day, my favourite boxer ever rip, came to our working mens club in the 90's what a nice humble man
Of course he did you spanner. Honestly son, yer a fn embarrassment,

Before my time but watching him back then was a true pleasure , One of the greats no doubt bout it , RIP Marvin
I’d give anything to have watched MMH or SRL get Mayweather in the ring in their prime. Then you’d see the difference in what a legend was in the 80’s to nowadays. Sleep well champ.
Of course you would you eejit.

floyd lost his mobility at 154, so suggesting a fight at 160 shows you don't understand weight classes and their importance.
floyd is a truly great fighter, but a lot of people don't like him as a person, or they are bitter that he dismantled their heroes.
let's tip our hats to marvin today, rather than use his memory to try to denounce a fellow great.

Greatest middleweight of all time and 100% in top 5 of all time. Unbelievable champion. That destruction of poor old Alan Minter was ridiculous and the fight v Hearns makes me laugh at the level of quality and brutality v anything you see these days
Sorry. But the greatest middleweight of all time was Sugar Rag Robinson with Hagler a very close second
Hagler was great, but he only just managed to beat Duran on points.
At the time Duran was in his mid 30s, a pumped up lightweight.
Sugar Ray Robinson was better.
So was Carlos Monzon.
Marcel Cerdan another astonishing middleweight who wasn't given a chance to fight for the world title until he was past his best. Probably few have heard of him, but then how many know anything about boxing on here.

"Poor old Alan Minter"? Not so poor, was HE, when he'd gone on record boasting that he'd: "...never lose my title to a Black man!"
you are a very sad troll kid, get a grip of yourself

Exactly, Duran also beating Leonard is why I give him my vote as the best of fab four. I am surprised because until recently I had Duran as no.4. Only my opinion, they are all brilliant fighters and great men. So sad to hear MMM has passed RIP champ.
Was Thomas Hearns the first boxer to win five world titles at five different weights during that era. Light Welterweight, Welterweight, Light Middleweight, Middleweight and Super Middleweight
I’m still in shock. I grew up watching all of his fights that were available. Never going to be another Marvelous Marvin Hagler prayers to his family and friends thank you Marvin may your memory be eternal.
Robbed by the illusion of SRL, best middleweight I ever saw fight.
When I first watched this fight, I was delighted that Leonard had won 'cos I was younger, and suckered by the hype around him. I've watched it many times since, along with hundreds of other fights, and Hagler was robbed.
Clearly a huge amount of questions surround that decision, or it wouldn’t still be the controversy it was. Leonard ran, looked flashy and barely connected...and all the sycophants fell for it.

Legend is an overused statement but not when it comes to Hagler. RIP Marvin ??
A tremendous fighter who helped forge my love of boxing, along with Alan Minter.
Oh just heard this news and feel so sorry , what a great fighter he was i remember him beating minter , one of the very best of all time RIP Marvin
RIP
I was fortunate to see the great Marvin Hagler live on tv when we had live boxing on free to air tv great days.Hagler beat some great fighters Hearns,Mugabe,Minter Duran to name a few saw him demolish Alan Minter on the BBC live yes his night was ruined by mindless thugs but we all knew we had seen someone special become World Champion beaten by Sugar Ray yes probably out thought that night
Gutted when he battered our Alan Minter.
But I came to appreciate and applaud the honourable and true giant of the sport that Marvin became.
Never ducked an opponent, has the most legendary of wins on his CV and is firmly a part of my lifetime’s ‘Boxing showreel’
RIP MMH
