Superb England crush India in first T20

A magnificent bowling performance sets England on the way to an eight-wicket victory over India in the first Twenty20 in Ahmedabad.

That was quite possibly the most perfect T20 performance I have ever seen from England, especially with a Kohli duck and a very silent crowd in the biggest cricket stadium in the world! Well done, England.

Yep although It would have been better if ENG batted first and still won....that would have been PERFECTION ... in T20s overall you win if you chase - happens 60-65% of the time ( unless top side plays the bottom in ICC rankings) , add the dew factor to it and the chasing team gets even more of an advantage. So, I'd like to see ENG to lose a toss and still WIN.

Since England has won comfortably there would be no talk about the pitch today.

It's worth remembering though that it's the same stadium same pitch where England were crushed in two-day/three-day tests.

Wonderful T20 win by England. A perfect performance and why they’re favourites for the World Cup. Sky’s performance not so good using 2nd hand commentary from studios in Isleworth rather than take the World feed. Lost some of the atmosphere. Also, shame C4 didn’t go for it so more fans could watch a fine unrotated full-strength England team.

Genuine question: can someone explain why Dawin Malan, number 1 ranked T20 batsman in the world, is being paid so much less in the IPL than others, for example Moeen Ali?

Because in the last auction the majority of sides were only looking for back up options in top 3

The gaps and therefore where budget was prioritised was all rounders, especially ones who bowl spin

Plus recency bias - his 4th innings cameo of 40 odd in a handful of balls played a large part in inflating his value

I think it's to do with matchups and specific stats based skills T20 stat analysis goes deep. So A team will be looking for say, a right arm seamer who takes most of their wickets with short balls in overs 10-15. Also, the IPL has plenty of batting options from India but not so many options for pure pace bowling. And Moeen is a top notch T20 allrounder with bat and ball.

Eng have a top 4 of hitters to die for

And then it's Morgan the thinking man's T20 destroyer

Then Stokes, (the other all rounder which surely should be Ali in India) and Jordan

I worry about Archer at 8

Only joking - if we're depending on 8 we deserve to lose

Still think Root at 7 is more flexible as an all rounder though and I remain to be unconvinced by Buttler opening - 4 is more natural

India were 50 runs short of a compete score, this was due partly to some good bowling and poor shot judgement, the loss of 3 early wickets all but ended India's hope, a good all round performance by England, I expect them to easily win this series...

The BCCI are going to find it difficult to doctor the pitches enough to win against such a strong England team. England have the white ball players to play in any conditions. I expect a different pitch in the next game, one that will suit the home spinners and India praying to win the toss but I doubt they can do anything to stop a far superior England.

Archer should be number 11 the way he bat's, Rashid, Jordan and Wood are all more effective with the willow, however the England selectors don't see it that way so what do we know.

England T20 team looked supremely confident, very ably led by Morgan, a cool captain. Hopefully they can maintain this form unlike their test side that moaned and groaned and crumpled on spinning wickets after a toss aided victory in the first test. Anyway, a great performance and it brought the Indian fans crashing down to earth. Hoping to see more action from both teams.

Agreed, probably the best white ball spinner in the world and has been for years.

Fantastic performance. Wood & Archer unplayable. What a difference a proper leader makes. Morgan so calm.

Brilliant from England. Great captaincy, Wood & Archer superb and really the whole England team was hardly tested.

Champagne moment...That Indian fielder who saved the six, wow, just WOW!

Fielding has come a long way in the last few decades - can't imagine Bishan Bedi leaping like a salmon to stop a six.

the biased bbc did not state that india crushed england in test series - why? obeying right wing instructions from boris johnson, no doubt. t20 is not real cricket, it is played so that young people do not have to concentrate for too long, because they can't do.

BBC right wing? Are you having a Giraffe? They mentioned India outplaying England in the tests loads whilst they were on.

So with a left wing government the BBC wouldn’t mention the T20 result but just repeat the outcome of the test series? I think you’ve been ingesting things that are probably outlawed.

Just proves the point that the results in the test series was down to dreadful pitches and not India's spin bowlers.
They were never in the game today !

But England's "spin" bowlers could not exploit the pitches. Anyway it's only circus cricket; it' s only test cricket that matters. That is the real test

ENG has a ridiculous white ball team ...they should never be allowed to chase a score...puts a lots of pressure on the poor team batting first as they are under pressure to score 200 in a T20 match and possibly 400 in ODI to feel they have any chance of winning !!

You mean a ridiculous world XI team?. More than half the playing squad from the Carribbean, South Africa, new Zealand, Ireland or Pakistan :-D

No it wouldn't. Test cricket is the most important. A convincing pajama party win does not undo the test performance problems. T20 doesn't matter

India play T20 in the IPL in India. That’s their favourite form of cricket.

all games matter. We lost the test series though good play from India, poor play and selection from England and a couple of sub test standard wickets, that's over now T20, why do only tests matter oh great cricketing snobby one?
