Brexit: UK delays border checks on EU goods into Great Britain
11/03/2021 | news | politics | 4,819
Ministers say the move will help firms after Covid - but Labour says it "smacks of ill-preparedness".
Is the EU going to push back controls on our exports. Erm. No. How on earth can even the most rabid racist. (Sorry Brexiteer) put a positive spin on this.
Your God called Johnson has led you down the garden path. (Again)

We'll take back control of our borders by errr... opening them.

What an utter shambles. Policy and implementation - money being hosed all over the place (no doubt to the usual gilded insiders)

Brexiters jeered at the idea that we'd be a centre for smuggling and people trafficking, now they are DEMANDING it.

Unbelievable. All predicted & in a lot of detail - & flatly denied by the Angry Grandads

Good news remoaners, your vote counts again, because of Brexit. No longer are you saddled with a sop of a government whos powers have been stripped by a supranational state. You now have the power to vote them out, and effect a complete change to this. You know, like how democracies are meant to work.

Remoaners are getting rather dull. Clearly checks are only needed as and when UK diverges from EU on standards. As this hasn't happened yet there is no need for checks that weren't already in place before Brexit.

Remainers think the EU is some benevolent force for good. Perhaps at the moment it is. Where have all the most right wing politics come from over the last 100 years? What happens it there is a political shift to the right again? Europe's proportional representation allows extremist groups much more power than in uk where FPP keeps them out of parliament.

They will keep voting conservative until there is a viable alternative government. The majority of people in this country are - contrary to the views expressed by the tiny minority represented on here - very savvy, and recognise that the Labour front bench is not up to the job.

You are wrong. The Tories are the only party who take the economy seriously, and that affects all of us. Have you looked at the history books? Do you know why Thatcher had to break the unions in the 80s? Labour/Unions wrecked British industry. If the SNP have their way in Scotland, the outcome will necessitate Tory policy as they are the only party prepared to be the "bad cop" to sort things out.

Brexit has happened

Brexit was the clear choice given to the people in the last GE and they voted for it

You can claim those who voted for it are stupid. But being stupid does not ban you from voting.

Many would say those who talk the country down, wish the UK to fail miserably having left the EU are being the stupid ones as they are seeking to damage the future of their young
"You can claim those who voted for it are stupid."

Thanks. You are stupid.

Well immigrants to the EU add a lot of value to the countries they settle in, you can read the statistics here.

https://ec.europa.eu/info/strategy/priorities-2019-2024/promoting-our-european-way-life/statistics-migration-europe_en

They add a lot of value to UK too, they might bring even more to the table if they were made to feel a bit more welcome

Some aspects of Brexit are so funny they make you cry.

We left the EU Erasmus scheme & now we have the pathetic Turing instead.

This is named after the genius Alan Turing, who solved the Enigma code during WW2, & paved the way for computing.

Turing was persecuted throughout his life by the British Establishment.

How Turing would turn in his grave to have his name associated with Johnson & co.

stanley 08:56 - Not true. I used to employ 30 staff exporting to the EU around 75% of our total business. I involved my staff from Brexit day 1 in terms of what we had to do as a business. WE not me, had to make 10 redundant and open an office in France & Germany to safeguard the business. I know several other companies that did the same. I can't see any gain from Brexit but loads of negatives.

Many saying companies should have prepared. How! The Brexit deal was signed at 5 min to 12. If business isn't ready, how about the govt? Surely, at least they must have known what the grand masterplan was all along, but now nothing on the border is ready and they need an extension, sorry, grace period up until 2023? But it's businesses who are at fault. 'F**k business', one promise BJ honoured.
