Pubs in England report high demand bookings from the 12 April opening date for beer gardens.

Agreed. I do not mean any disrespect to nurses but threatening to strike when you have a secure job and are being offered a pay rise is disrespectful to those of us who have also worked all through this pandemic with no pay rise (minimum wage is creeping up closer to me every year) and living every day in fear we may lose our jobs completely.

Not a black man/woman in sight in these village pubs.

Ageing, middle class white folk to the fore, apparently. No wonder they call it Little England.

The "Ageing, middle class white folk" as you put it will be the ones who have bothered to take a vaccine so the pubs will be even safer!! Great news on top of great news!

Probably because the make up of the UK is 3% black, 6% Asian, a large number of whom live in cities. Nothing to stop them going, they may just not choose to do so. It's like saying there are a lack of middle aged white people in inner city mosques, ridiculous comment.

Can think of a far better, exciting and healthier way to spend my time than sit in a beer garden inhaling other peoples' cigarette smoke.

This will all end in tears again because Covid-19 has shown that there are amazing people out there but sadly, outnumbered by a selfish 'me, me, me' society who only consider themselves and have no respect for others. Some really horrible people around sadly.
Then stay at home cowering and let the rest of us live our lives you bedwetter. Removed
Funny how most of the anti-pub posts are from people for whom English is clearly a second language. It's almost like they are quite happy to live in this country and take advantage of the opportunities it offers, but not actually respect any of its traditions.

I think the SCANDAL of the Nurses pay 'rise' offer is more of a HYS topic..........just shows where priorities lie really. Removed
No way in a million years would the BBC allow us to have our say on that. It would hurt the Tories too much.

It would also show the callous Tory Bot Propaganda Machine in action defying public opinion to make it seem the majority back the Tories.

Why is it a scandal? They have been working right through. Millions of people have been earning nothing and living on handouts. Nurses complaining about people being sick are like soldiers complaining when there is a war.

No surprise
Record House Prices
Used car Prices Up
Holiday Bookings Galore
DIY'ed up to the hilt
Garden, Plant Nursery can't keep up with orders fast enough
etc. etc.

On furlough £5,000 a month is it any wonder.

Yet nurses average rise £3.15p a week equates to just the 52 years it would take to reach the £10,000 people got for their 2nd / 3rd / 4th Homes / Holiday Lets

Those on the front line of NHS in a one-to-one situation with victims of Covid over the past year fully deserve some reward for the sacrifices, risks, exhaustion and stresses they have worked under.
For no other reason than the tens, or hundreds of thousands of lives saved.
