Congratulations. You managed to bring Brexit and party politics into an unrelated discussion.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) called this "pitiful", arguing that its members should get 12.5% instead.

@ IM sorry to say the RCN is deluded many many people have been working through the pandemic and will not recieved any form of pay in fact their lucky if they keep their jobs.

Unions exploiting the pandemic its quite frankly disgusting and insulting to everyone else.

The unions aren't exploiting the pandemic. They have made this case for many successive years, and are representing their members - which is their role.

You can't clap the NHS one minute and then do this to them.
If the RCN are expecting support off the public, then they need a serious reality check
12.5% is a totally unrealistic expectation. Nobody in private employment would ever expect that.

Their rationale for 12.5% is due to the freezes and caps beforehand. Plenty were exempt from the freezing - particularly low paid.

They also completely ignore all the years they received rises beyond inflation and is ignorant to the effects felt elsewhere during the financial crisis. Private pay fell for 2 years, and in real terms for much longer.

1. Troops get extra pay for missions.

2. Many NHS front line staff had to work extra hours, unpaid, to manage the huge extra workload and to cover for the others who were able to find any reason to go off and 'self isolate' thus leaving many services understaffed.

The pay rise offered is below inflation, that is the issue. So in effect they are getting a pay cut. They could get higher pay jobs in the private sector, Covid has shown the importance of a strong public sector, if pay lags even more, there’s going to be a talent drain, which will affect us all.
What annoyed me was a description, by the BBC, of the low number of volunteers within ethnic groupings for trials was described as them being "under represented in the vaccine trials community". This implies that it is an institutionally racist medical establishment that was excluding them. The truth is they are self excluding but the BBC has to find a way to blame the indigenous population. The BBC does not appear believe in race, as evidenced by some of its earlier selected articles. Therefore I can only assume it is happy that the vaccine will operate the same on all ethnic communities regardless of ancestry.
No point to all this soul searching. Hero-Inflation
Coronavirus infection levels are going in the right direction, particularly in Bonnie Scotland - who have the lowest Covid levels out of the 4 UK nations at 1 in 335, whilst England has the worst rates so well done to the Scots + Scotland's Govt, despite tories attempts to chuck everything at them and failing miserably. Johnson the corrupt + Hancock the incompetent should follow Scotland's lead! Removed

If China doesn't end wet markets then we should isolate China from trading with the West.

So the total number of infections from the initial 10 will be between 33.33 and 100.

We simply can’t afford a massive 1% pay rise for our lifesaving nurses as it’s been spent shovelling vast amounts of taxpayers’ money into the pockets of those close to the Tory party. £Billions for “world beating” test & trace, £100’s of millions to mates for PPE, then there’s HS2, funds for Tory towns etc.

Money doesn’t grow on trees, unless you’ve got strong links to the Tories, then it does.

Still, I’m sure a good whinge and moan will sort you out
Just to put this in pespective:-

£22 billion (yes, billion) was spent on Boris' mate's untendered 'Test and Trace system' that didn't work properly.

There are 1.1 million (equivalent full time) workers in the NHS

That comes to £20,000 per worker.

just to put this into better prospective, there can be no amount of money put onto a single person's life, far less 10's of thousands of people's lives.

To put these innocent lives into a monitory context, gives away your own ideology, and quite frankly it stinks.

£22 billion is a gross exaggeration, but even if that was true, any lives that were saved with T&T was worth every single penny.

You are wrong, because it started to take off before march, but was deliberately covered up by idiot Johnson and his mob, who infamously stated that there was "nothing to worry about and we will be able to control the virus".

Johnson was even visiting hospitals without wearing a mask and shaking hands with patients, which caused him to learn the hard way and caught the virus himself.

The over 70s are predominantly selfish. End of. Always have been always will be. They had free everything, great housing, great pensions, now whizz it all up the wall whilst gloating how rich they are and how hard they worked for it, whilst watching their grandkids struggle to buy a 2 bed .
