Rishabh Pant's dazzling century ensures India repel a Ben Stokes-led England fightback on a compelling second day of the final Test in Ahmedabad.
very very difficult. the pitch has started withering out and is quite dusty. and remember, their spinners are better than ours. and it will be 3rd innings, when we bat. like i said yesterday, batting first we should have gotten 300/350! and today Pant took the game from us. can't see us scoring more than 200. and Ind is yet to finish their 2nd innings. these two can bat so the lead can go upto 150
When pitch was at its best they barely managed 200 and you are hoping for 300 in the second innings!
Pretty good effort from the bowlers again, India on target for a par score of 300-350. We just don’t have enough runs.
Pant, what a player. Really enjoyed watching his batting and keeping this series.

Good cricket .
That was one of the best innings in a long time from Pant there, he's got some serious talent! For England, we need to find what our best lineup is before the India and Australia series later on in the year. I would've taken a 3-1 loss to India at the start of the tour, especially since they had only lost once since 2012 at home, which is a mind-boggling stat.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had the same thought. India is the hardest place to tour, its the final frontier for a reason. I'm proud that we even managed to win one match!
This is why I couldn’t understand the hype and misplaced confidence from England fans after the first test.
History says we get smashed in India...guess what...

Good pitch for test cricket .Great stuff from England in the morning but Pant was superb and had good support from Sundar. Not over yet, but someone will have to play a great, great innings.
Hmmm … The day began well, but it’s ended up as Pant’s.
We could Stoke(s) up the controversy by blaming someone else for our weakness. It seems to be a national pastime these days.
The end was Sibley awful. The sun Leached the energy out of England and I hope someone Poperly Stokes their fires for the morning session.
The only way out for England now is 2 full days of Sundar & lightening
England fans had a tough time last two weeks, unable to decide who to blame - umpires, pitches, selection process, rotation policy or something else. It's good to see that tough period of bewilderness go away. Hope they can finally begin blaming what they should have been blaming-poor cricket from the England team.
Or are we about to witness another vicious cycle of blaming the weather, food etc?

If this is the best England can do, I'm going to Boycott the summer series.
lots of witty replies. i agree with vaughn, dont put bess under such scrutiny. he might still end up as a GOAT. virat, shut up — idiot, score runs when it matters. or whaddayaknow, age catching up? moron. just for the english audience ... i noticed this was the sentiment of a lot of indian viewers.
indian in pune india. Removed

And just as you think it's all Pants, I fear England may still be ripped a Sundar.
England were such Dom Bess es with their bowling changes today...
The young lad batted incredibly well, Pant’s off to him.
England caught with Pants down
This is what happens when you play three bowlers! You can compete and be on top and it all unravels. Puzzling selection but excellent knock by Pant
I thought Stokes’s bowling was excellent -his final over to Sharma was the highlight of the day. He creates pressure from nowhere -perhaps he relishes the promotion to opening bowler
Indian batsmen have shown that there are no demons in the pitch. England batsmen can have no excuses if they fail again.
They WILL fail again. No idea how to play quality spin bowling. To be fair, they don’t see it in the County game.
Something is not working for England. In the past, it had great batsmen of spin bowling Gooch, Gower, Lamb and excellent spinners Underwood, Illingworth going all the way back to Titmus. We had seen them performing well in India too. Whats going on!
Take a bow rishabh pant! Take a bow!! Brilliant!!
India have played sensibly and are, decidedly, the better team.
England have again left themselves shorthanded with a bowler short. In fact, make that two bowlers short because Dom Bess is clearly a liability.
England are staring at another massive defeat, barring an extraordinary second-innings fightback.

I feel nothing between teams cept over prepared pitches..shld be outlawed
The decision to play one less bowler massively hit us in that 3rd session, we were well in the game until then but ran out of gas.
I like Bess but he needs to spend another year or two back in County until he gets consistent. Time is on his side so there's no rush.
What a player Pant is.

I think Swann had a 7 or 8 year gap between his first and second ODI cap, with his first test cap coming shortly after.
Bess seems to have the character to do someting similar; hopefully it doesn't take quite so long, though!

Sadly England needs a culture change regarding spin bowling. This includes thinking of the selection committee to pitches in county cricket to grass-root and academy cricket. Yes, all well if Bess goes and plays county but if the pitch offers no turn what is he learning, this is where Jack has benefited by playing on turning surface for his county.
The ECB should develop an indoor/outdoor facility for spin bowling with specially prepared pitches. This will encourage young bowlers with potential to be trained by experts from within or from outside England and to hone their spinning skills.
Ashwin, Sundar and Patel have shown that there is much much more to spin bowling than just turning the ball.

I agree about Dom Bess. As a Somerset member I saw his entire career with them before the move to Yorkshire. He came straight out of the Devon League with Sidmouth CC and into the Somerset 1st XI. Benefitted greatly by playing on turners prepared for Jack Leach and the two were unstoppable for a couple of seasons. But he spent no time learning the game with Somerset 2nd XI. County overs now needed
Looks like England have been caught with their Pants down yet again
i am a liverpool supporter too, and from india to boot, so after last night's heartbreak in football (same story every week), something to feel glad about after seeing Pant in cricket
No. Pant was just angry at his team underachieving and decided to score quickly. It worked.
Bess’s Luck ran out today -he hasn’t bowled particularly well all winter, but he’s taken regular wickets -often with loose deliveries. He should back himself to bowl out the left handers as Root did last week -but it hasn’t happened and it has cost England. Excellent batting from india’s left handers all the same. England need a big partnership tomorrow
As cricketing traditions go, it is natural for struggling batsmen to give up captaincy & focus on batting.
My man Kohli on the other hand has decided to give up on his batting to focus on captaincy. Genius!!

Kohli is an average captain at best. Kohli should resign as captain but he never will. Rahane and Rohit are much better than him.
Kohli on form is the worlds best batsman captaining the worlds best test side. Doesn't get much better than that.
I think you will find that his batting record overall is very good as captain.
Everyone has a bad spell from time to time.
Everyone has a bad spell from time to time.
Haha, historically South Asian teams showed little emotions. It was (is still) also a cultural aspect.
But younger gen began seeing that as the missing element compared to a team like Aus and SA. They loved Ganguly, when he took his shirt off at Lord's.
Kohli is an image that portrays an inner perseverance/skill, while wearing bold expressions. (Notice his normal when he bats)

Truly said....Kohli should give up captaincy and instead concentrate on his batting
Well done Pant and Sundar! Other than those two and Sharma, the Indian line up is looking very fragile. Pujara, Rahane, Gill, kholi have been woeful. With some better bowling this game could easily have gone the other way. The big boys need to step it up before the return series!!
India's top order hasn't been performing to its potential for 2 years now. Rohit has been an exception in this series. It is the lower order that has been rescuing the team time and again. Serious introspection and corrections needed if India has hopes to compete with England later this year.
One DRS umpire's call decision - Pant last over before tea - has made a big difference in this test.
What about Gill and Rohit's decisions? Rohit was most unfortunate. Had he been given not out India would have been ahead by 150 already.
So much for DRS, yesterday Bairstow given out , on review ball just, and only just, clipping the bails, today Pant ( on 31) given not out by the same Unpire, on review the ball was clearly hitting the bails,..fine margins I accept, but this could cost us the match.
Sadly, I don’t think it will make one iota of difference. Our batsmen are unable to play good spin bowling. They don’t experience it in the County game. Should be game over tomorrow.
first of all, i applaud PANT. he is just amazing isn't he? that reverse sweep scoop shot against one of the greatest test legends we have ever produced is just unbelievable. I feel bad for Bess. Poor lad seems to be losing confidence with every over. yesterday i was a bit annoyed with the way we batted but today we were right in the game until Pant and later sundar took the game away from us!
Brilliant days cricket! England on top for a session and half then along comes one of the most exciting cricketers in the world and blows away England's lead, take a bow Rishbah Pant ?? Washington looks a cracking player too. What young talent India have ????
England on the other hand...... Big Hole!
England on the other hand...... Big Hole!
Ben Stokes a couple years ago was just like Rishbah Pant
Read the bbc sport piece on England’s coaching staff. They employ about ten coaches!! I think there is an issue there, they bat like they know they are being scrutinised constantly. Can’t imagine Rishabhs batting sessions look much like Sibley / Pope/ Lawrence’s
The game was on a knife edge but full credit to Pant and Sundar for taking the game away. English bowlers look absolutely drained so I can’t see a way back unless they really knuckle down with the bat and get the wickets early tomorrow.
India have won most of the big moments in this series - Kohli hasn't had a great series with the bat and yet others have stepped up; that hasn't been the same for England when Root or Stokes haven't fired.
Extraordinary innings from Pant has changed the game.
Extraordinary innings from Pant has changed the game.
Have to agree with you here.
England have been lucky to maybe get 1 or 2 players per innings to perform. India have got 4 or 5.
The pitch is the same. Get used to it. Home field advantage is why it's hard to win abroad!
England switched off after the first test romp.
The scores are not high. The batsmen just aren't delivering!

Who here said that Dom Bess should have played in the last test. I see selecting him for this test tells you that they were right not to play him when he is pretty average
Michelle Vaughan; "Pick him" "he's too inexperienced" "why didn't they pick him" "not good enough"!!!
There may be merits to squad rotation when playing 17 tests in a calendar year. However this series is an example of how not to do it!
Fair to say that India have not faced the strongest team England could have fielded in this series.
At 146-6, we were in this. Then Pant with, sadly, some assistance from Bess, has taken it away from us. Root, frankly, bowled himself too much, Leach not enough, and gave Sundar too many easy singles instead of attacking him when he was first in.
Pant's day; simply magnificent. Can anyone see ENG getting 300+ 2nd time? Sadly, I cannot! It might have been different...

Usually I never criticize Roots captaincy, but today he made poor choices. Bowled himself way too much, kept Stokes on when he was clearly struggling, and then brought him back on in place of Anderson with the new ball!! Why? Especially as Jimmy had just removed Pant. Baffling decisions which have resulted in India running away with the match. England cannot win from here, another big loss looms.
agreed. stokes was simply too exhausted and to see him come and bowl over after over was hard to watch. we were at a really good position but we did not press on the Ind lower order enough and they got away with it. not to mention leaking too many 1s and 2s. Pant's innings was special but could have gotten Sundar. The lack of an extra bowler truly hurts here and bess was not useful as well
Feel a bit for Root to be honest, he's only got a 4 man attack and one of them was struggling to land the ball
I think Stokes tweaked his shoulder attempting a run out shortly after tea -that’s the issue when you’re a bowler short. England regularly picked only 4 bowlers in the ten years between Botham and Flintoff -didn’t win much then though...
Probably his 5-fer in the previous test was still in his head.
India won't be caught now, but their final against NZ should be interesting.
India won't be caught now, but their final against NZ should be interesting.
i'll always criticise Root's captaincy, I don't like doing it as he's a nice guy and a great batsman, but he's an awful captain - I said the same when we won the first test and in Sri Lanka so it's not because he's losing. He doesn't know how to handle bowlers, he doesn't know when to attack or defend - the captain's role should be to change the game, not just shout "come on boys" ever so often.
He has been captaining poorly and making poor choices for quite a time now. Not his fault. The best player doesn't always make the best captain.
I thought Stokes bowled well today.
There are times when Roots captaincy deserves plenty of criticism, although i feel it has improved since Bayliss has left the scene.
But his options in this game are seriously limited.
The attack is thread bare - Stokes not fully fit, Bess basically suffering from the yips.
They don't want to bowl Leach against Pant and/or lefties.
That does not leave much room for manoeuvre.

Not sure why you don’t criticise his choices as skipper because whatever he is (a high class player of spin, a competitor and a more than able PT bowler) what he is not, I’m afraid is a good captain.
He doesn’t read the game well, he’s reactive and he doesn’t see the bigger picture....
He doesn’t read the game well, he’s reactive and he doesn’t see the bigger picture....
Terrible session after tea, which sums up Root's lack-lustre performance as an international captain and selector. But, whilst agreeing that he just isn't up to the job (& hasn't been for some time, if at all), then who's in line to replace him?
Root is usually reluctant to bowl himself but today he was let down by Leach and Bess. They were simply unable to tie down Pant.
Root is the cricketing equivalent of Klopp
Unable to raise his game when the odds are stacked against
Unable to raise his game when the odds are stacked against
It's not over though....
Abject display England.
A little credit to India, specially Pant - you can only knock over what's put in front of you.
England's spin "attack" isn't worthy of the name. Have never thought Leach is test class , so don't know where that leaves Bess and Root.
And when you take stalwarts Anderson, Stokes and Root (as batsman not captain) out of the equation there is very little talent or backbone.

Watching these last two days, you can see why people feel cheated with the last two test pitches.
India are the best ..... England are no match for them they posses no real talent ????
India are the best in world in all formats FACTS
England seems to have a dual layered rotation policy in place - one bringing players in & out of the bubble(for no reason I believe?) and one between different test matches. Bonkers!!
Jokes aside - was difficult watching Stokes struggle towards the end of the day. Questionable selection choices in the last 2 matches.

Rishabh Pant is on course to be the next Adam Gilchrist
They are the only two wicketkeepers to have made Test hundreds in each of England, Australia, and India.
He was out all day long to Bess. The umpire should be giving it out when he is stuck in his crease and obviously hitting.
Yes he is talented but he was helped today.

Wow. A Liverpool supporter who has heard of Gilchrist or is he confused with some soccer player of that name ?
Who let this muffet on this site ?
He seems bored to me.

Absolutely!!. Maybe even the next Virender Sehwag, due to him scoring quickly and not caring about playing a forward defense shot.
Good analogy. So talented and a brilliant keeper. Brings great balance to the Indian team.
Saha is a very good keeper but Pant is also very good. Especially diving catches and stumping.
Gilchrist changed test WKs forever.
Gilchrist changed test WKs forever.
You won all the tosses in England. Here too you won 3 tosses out of 4 otherwise it would have been 4-0 to India.
England may have won 4-1, but India's performance in that series didn't merit a 4-1 score line. There were periods of domination in each test match. It's the best I've seen India perform in England for a long time. Let's see if India have made progress this summer.
England going in with an extra batsman but a bowler short didn't pay off much yesterday & backfired on them today - with the main bowlers having to bowl more & understandably tiring in the heat! No wonder Pant & Sundar were able to cash in towards the end of the day even after the new ball was taken. Even taking into account the heat, appalling bowling rates with only 82 overs bowled in the day.
I'd be curious to know from any non-england supporters if your teams ever do the same; batting does badly so instead of swapping for better batsmen they just add more batsmen and effectively punish the bowling attack. I can't think of many times in the past when this tactic has actually worked for us; mostly if we're lucky we get a slightly better score batting that the bowlers then can't defend
No one could accurately predict exactly how the pitch would behave - fair enough. But everyone could predict that temperatures would be 40+ Celsius, and to expect even a superhuman 38 year old and one of your best batsmen to bowl fast for hour after hour in that bowl was almost unforgivable.

Pant plays like Stokes and Gilchrist on steroids
Pant is different Class only in India my friend
Only 76 overs in 6 hours, 82 with extra 30 minutes total disgrace captain should get 2 match ban that would speed things up a bit.
Lots of time wasting from Pant - calling for drinks, changing gloves etc
It doesn't work that way these days; points deduction per over short ,which they have so far (unbelievably ) failed to apply in past Tests which England have failed to bowl full 90 overs.
It is an ongoing problem and the broadcasters hate it!
It is also ridiculously easy to sort out - treat it like wides.
At the end of each day or innings - 6 run penalty for every over short in the allotted time in the field (barring any time lost for reasons beyond the control of the fielding team e.g injuries etc).
If applied today - that would have been an additional 84 extras to India.

it's 40 degrees muppet!! If they didn' time-waste with drinks and bowling, they might be spewing on the pitch. have a little compassion there.
Over 90 degrees and both seamers suffering from a stomach bug? Feel you are being bit unfair, Stephen
Something has to happen on over rates - it's killing Test cricket.
Simple solution - a)10 extra runs for the batting side for every over not bowled under 15 overs an hour.
b) Batting side's 12th man not allowed on the field to bring gloves, extra drinks, message from agents etc (outside scheduled drinks breaks)

if the light is good enough, they should stay on until the overs are bowled. It was in England's interest to get through overs quickly after tea and put the batsmen under pressure while we still had a lead. Instead we gave them easy runs by bowling enough tripe, (Leach as well as Bess) to fill a butchers window.
If they bowled more overs per hour they perhaps mat get more wickets? Although, in truth, the slow over rate probably reduces the run rate!
Am not condoning the rate nor supporting the over rate. Agnew, why didn't you say?! It was hot though.
This match counts towards the World Test Championship,
slow over rates are punished with points deductions. England can't now reach the final, so it makes no difference to them. But Australia were deducted 4 points for a slow over rate, without which they would now be sitting above NZ and guaranteed a place in the WTC final. Now they can only make it if India lose this test.

Sundar played a gem of a knock!! Should have gotten what!?
Good fightback by England, but they were always going to struggle at some stage. Questions about selection will come back to haunt them, Woakes, Adil Rasheed not being selected, the handling of Moeen and Bess.
Hopefully we can take it into day four and conjure up another fightback!
It's the hope that kills you.

This England squad is like a tricycle.
You have to admire india they're a quality side. Wouldn't you love Pant, Ashwin and Patel at 6, 7 and 8? And Patel's only in because Jadeja is injured. Doesn't excuse England being a seamer light on a green wicket, and going with 4 seamers in a dust bowl.
We have Stokes, Foakes and Woakes. We dont need them
India has a lot of technically competent batsmen who can bat on any surface. You need just two of them to click in any inings to take the game out of hands of this England side.
By contrast, England have just 2, maybe even one-and-a-half.
By contrast, England have just 2, maybe even one-and-a-half.
Nope India have only gone in with 2 seamers and they are the one who know - and the spinners still bowled England out on day 1 - I suspect green isn't really what you think it is.
England's group of selectors need to be changed and favouritism removed. Let meritocracy rule.
Sundar is replacing Jadeja. I can see Ashwin, Jadeja and Patel bowling together in India.
The great thing is all 4 can bat. Jadeja has 10 centuries in FCC including 3 triples.

No I wouldn't. I'd take Pant (although Buttler is every bit as good as he is with the bat), the other two are tailenders. When it goes their way they get runs and quick but you can't guarantee what will happen with them...Just like ours...
I absolutely admire India ????. They are playing in my region of India, Gujarat. One of the finest cricket stadiums in the world ??. Born and bred in London I always find it sad whichever team looses.

I would have had Woakes and Adil Rasheed for Pope and Bess.
Obviously .....don't why the board cannot see this ??
No they were short of few grapes. What a bunch. What happened the Root the World's finest spin bowler?
Yeah. Has Dom Bess turned up yet
If they trusted Bess, it would have been alright. As they clearly don't, they should have played Parkinson or Virdi as the second spinner. They are at the ground, and would have been a hopeful pick for the future, not going back to someone whose had the yips all tour.
They sent Woakes home to rest after not playing at all.
Assume that we now have to set up for two day tests in India so 3/4 is plenty
It is not the bowling, it's the batting. England battling line up is a joke.
Absolutely. Terrible team selection once again.
Who here thinks that even if we had got Pant out for a low score then England would still have got a low total in the second innings

Agreed. He hasn't been batting to his standards for 2 years now. He should indeed resign as captain and focus on his batting.
Kohli is not a bad captain, probably better than Root - and he is a good leader of the sid, in terms of inspirational qualities.
Thing is - Captaining the Indian team is different to any other test nation. The weight of national expectation makes it way more than just skippering on the field and team management.
I was seriously impressed with Rahane in Australia, but i think Kohli's ego and utter self belief makes him better suited long term to the job.

I see India wrapping it up tomorrow for a finish within 3 days...who are we going to blame now? Pitch?Umpires? Let's face it, England are rubbish in sub-continent conditions. Barring first 2 days of first test on a flat deck, (where were the pundits who have been moaning about contest between bat and ball during first test?) England have been thoroughly pummeled !!!
England tired. India on top. No chance
Just goes to show 205 on that pitch nowhere near enough. To go in with 2 seam bowlers & 2 spinners should have picked broad, bess looked well short. Pant played brilliantly well supported by sundar. India will get a good lead then ashwin & axar will take over.
Pant played well after tea but he shouldn't have been there! Poor umpiring not to give him out and shocking from third umpire to uphold as "Umpire's Call" when ball tracking showed over 50% of the ball was hitting the wicket.
Pity as otherwise could have been a decent test.
Pity as otherwise could have been a decent test.
Let the blame games begin ! Sour grapes ?
Rohit had umpires call for hitting in line and hitting stumps i.e. 2 Umpires calls...These things balance out at the end
Rohit had umpires call for hitting in line and hitting stumps i.e. 2 Umpires calls...These things balance out at the end
Sometimes you get them sometimes you don't. Look at the call for the Rohit dismissal, two of the three marks were umpires call.
Surprised the commentator's didn't discuss this more?
Was a marginal umpires call decision which went in his favour just as the one against Rohit which didn't favour him. So NO - NOT poor umpiring as you claim!
No surprise here. English are ?? everywhere apart from in English conditions when the pitches are prepared perfectly for their bowlers and India ???? are excellent team, win away in Australia no problem. India 3 English lucky 1. ???????????
So a rubbish team won away against Sri Lanka and South Africa? Can't wait to see "excellent" India get rolled on pitches that actually help the seamers
ENG staring at another big defeat. The quality of ENG players is the issue, now it has been confirmed. With this team ENG is lucky with 3-1. A good team plays to its strengths and doesn't ride on mistakes of the opposition or luck to carry it through. Having said that there is no shame in losing to the current Indian team, especially in India.
Is England still the last team to have won a test series in India when we had Cook and Pietersen
I can't see Bess playing for England again.
I’d be surprised if he wanted to after the shoddy way he’s been treated and it’s clearly affected him. His confidence is clearly shot.
Yes he’s not really test class but he’s only 23 and with the way the county system is set up he’s had little opportunity to learn his craft. I feel for him and I hope he’ll learn from this and come back stronger.

I can as we have got no one else
I just hope this experience in India doesn’t impact on Bess’ mental health in the long term as from the outside, he looks more fragile than bone China.
Both Bess and the management should take responsibility for Bess's performance. It would be wrong to blame only the management. Bess should take inspiration from Siraj and Sundar, who debuted and delivered for India with even less experience, away from home against a strong and hostile opposition. On the other hand the management should take blame for not making Bess feel valued member of the team
I think spin bowling choice will become a revolving door, much like the opening position
Thats harsh if it happens.. if you think of Stuart Broad and the 6 sixes he got hit in one over.. you would give Bess a few chances.. he's young.. you could see he was hurting.. he will learn and come good.. if he doesnt.. thats a different matter..
Who here said that Dom Bess should have played in the last test. I see selecting him for this test tells you that they were right not to play him when he is pretty average
Outstanding innings by Pant. India should wrap up this Test and series tomorrow.
Woeful selection and Team management. Why select Ali for one match only at the expense of Bess. Is it any surprise that Bess has lost all confidence.
India are far and away the better side. I wonder what brainwave Ed Smith will have when the sides meet again in the summer. Perhaps play 2 specialist bowlers only!

Great idea to bat first. But the scores do reflect the relative strength of the sides.
Looks like India will win two test matches in a row by not winning the toss
Sorry to bang on about this, but what a difference - England are still losing, India are still the better team, but this test match is 1000 times better than the last one.
Yes - it's the pitch.
Equal contest between bat and ball. The difference is SOLELY the standard of execution by the teams.

As cricketing traditions go, it is natural for struggling batsmen to give up captaincy & focus on batting.
My man Kohli on the other hand has decided to give up on his batting to focus on captaincy. Genius!!

What is it with Leach - drives me mad how long it takes to bowl an over & needing to rub his hands on the pitch umpteen times! Even pacemen Anderson & Stokes manage to bowl an over faster than him! This is why England ended up bowling only 82 overs in the day despite playing another 30 mins overtime at the fag end of the day.
Totally agree Nick only way to stop it is to penalize the slow play with extra runs to opponents no money involved
That would stop it instantly
That would stop it instantly
Do you really think Jimmy Anderson and Ben Stokes want to be starting a new over 2 minutes after their last one?!!
That's why they're called Slow Bowlers. Because they bowl slow??
Pant played well after tea but he shouldn't have been there! Poor umpiring not to give him out and shocking from third umpire to uphold as "Umpire's Call" when ball tracking showed over 50% of the ball was hitting the wicket.
Pity as otherwise could have been a decent test.

What a fantastic day for India, on the back foot but we burst through and ran England into the ground!
152 runs scored in the last session, which I didn’t want to end. The batsmen have nothing to fear from English bowlers, Anderson & Stokes will need zimmer frames as they leave India.
Just a final push tomorrow morning a lead of 120-150 & England bowled out for 80!
Ps fab from Pant & Sundar!

It would have gone on but for England's disgraceful over rate which has been low throughout the series. Rooty should get a ban after this test.
India have been class in all aspects ????

It's a shame India are so utterly hopeless in English conditions, 11-2 to England in the past four series in England, what an embarrassment India are when they play at the home of cricket.
1. What an innings by Rishabh Pant..
2. You've got to feel for Dom Bess..
3. You've got to thank CH4..

Channel 4 has been superb although the talk is rather one sided.
Talk was that as Pant and Ashwin play their shots wickets could fall very quickly....WRONG... forgot to say that it can work for the Batmen, and England would be in trouble!

Dom Bess should not have been selected in the first place
ENG staring at another big defeat. The quality of ENG players is the issue, now it has been confirmed. With this team ENG is lucky with 3-1. A good team plays to its strengths and doesn't ride on mistakes of the opposition or luck to carry it through. Having said that there is no shame in losing to the current Indian team, especially in India.
First time iam seeing Indian bottom half playing proper test cricket, no more slogging
Well looks like you haven't followed Australia series especially Gabba test. India won only because of the contribution by Washington and Shradul in the first innings.
Stokes giving Ashwin a foul mouthed gobful and bowling beamers ? Does he have an Australian parent ?
Stokes in this test series has been acting differently to the Stokes we have seen from the past
Woakes who averages 51 overseas and Adil who suffers from a shoulder problem which prevents him from playing the longer format. I don’t know what you were knighted for but clearly not for team selection.
yes to Woakes - being given same treatment as Mo it seems.
shame
shame
I think Rashid no longer plays Tests - to be fair he was rarely picked anyway which is disappointing as he's a leggie - he offers something different.
I would have played Wood instead of Bess and not dropped Pope for no reason!
England need bowlers who can get 50s? Stokes, Woakes. Anyone else?
I think Eng may look to fast track someone like Virdi into the setup at some point. That said, you only need 2 spinners in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Bess may struggle to play much for the foreseeable future.
But Rashid was never on the tour and Woakes has gone home
Probably the worst day I've watched since the 2019 Ashes. Ed Smith should be sacked as a selector, selection way off and management of Bess dreadful. Root bowling him and Bess straight after tea is another in the list of bad tactical decisions by him, improve tactically or go. Sibley, Crawley, Lawrence and Pope are all talented, but need to start winning games for England. Jonny Bairstow should go
Pant is a outstanding talent together with Patel and Washington we still have Pandey Rahul Kumar Jaspreet Sami Darwan to come back
Brilliant performance by Pant.He has demonstrated to supposedly better batsmen how to play your team out of trouble.FINALLY the “Aussie heroes”Pant&Sundar brought those performances bk.Kohli Pujara Rahane hang your heads.Think it’s unfair to rip Bess to shreds so early in his career.I’m sure all the top bowlers started badly. And never write stokes/root off they could turn this match at any time
Only 76 overs in 6 hours, 82 with extra 30 minutes total disgrace captain should get 2 match ban that would speed things up a bit.
Leach takes an inordinate amount of time to start bowling his over and then ages to complete the over. Lots of time wasting?
Right. B/c it's totally in India's interest to waste time in this test - lol!
All players do it in India especially when the temperature can get up to forty degrees
Considering that he spent a lot of energy hitting lots of fours and sixers, I suppose it is a valid need.
Of course England players would never do such a thing would they......??
England are a shoddy team lead by a little upstart who thinks he's something special, newsflash... He ain't that special!!

England were clearly one pace bowler shot today. Well done India with the way they fought back after tea. The shot of the day for me is the reverse sweep against England's best bowler ever(Anderson) with the new ball. Hats off to Pant and well supported by Washington!
That sweep shot was brilliant even got legend Jimmy Anderson completely flummoxed
Pant is showing how to bat to his own team and the visitors. Today’s batsmen don’t have patience or class to defend each ball. The mighty Pujara and Kohli think that they can defend the balls like Gavaskar or even Tendulakar, but not. So what do you? Play instead like Pant.
The Indians, in home conditions, showing our lads how to grind out and build a score

India will do this inside 2/3 days, England just aren't that good & learnt nothing from the Sri Lanka tour. Still if England can't reach the Test championship final, I'd rather India won this 3-1 & stopped the Aussies facing NZ.
India only have to draw this match. A 2-1 series victory will get them to the final in England.
Pant's day; simply magnificent. Can anyone see ENG getting 300+ 2nd time? Sadly, I cannot! It might have been different...
