Updated coronavirus vaccines can be fast-tracked like flu jabs

Rapid approval without lengthy tests can happen if new vaccines are needed to fight variants, say regulators.
Great article re Texans and face masks. Can the BBC please follow this up and report again in 3-6 months to show if and what difference it has made.

Biden used masks as a political tool to help ease Trump out of office.
The fact the tiny benefit they bring is almost certainly cancelled by the way most people handle them in the real World is irrelevant to him.
On the plus side, Trumps gone.

If you mean mandatory mask wearing going forward and social distancing, and limiting large gatherings don't see the issue to protect public health. Nothing snowflake about reasonable precautions.
There are significant health issues with wearing masks. Your mouth is an exhaust used to expell CO2 and other things that your body doesn't want. Normally thi is expelled into the atmosphere, but wearing a mask recycles it straight back in. There will be future health issues caused by mask wearing. We do it now because it is the lesser of the evils - but it cannot continue. Removed

Amazing that anyone can believe this nonsense.
High CO2 levels are immediately detected in the body forcing the exhalation reflex.
Masks do not prevent movement of oxygen and c02 molecules, they are not air tight.
You are suggesting a volume of air equivalent to a breath sits between the mask and the user ready to be inhaled.

04/03/2021 11:35:59 13 4
bbc
The "CO2 and other things" is not "recycled" as you put it, it passes through the mask like the air did on it's way into your lungs when you breathed in. It's the quality of the air you're breathing in 24 hours a day 7 days a week in the first place that will cause future health issues, not the wearing of a mask for maybe a few hours per week eg when you go shopping.

That will be why hospital beds are chock full of health workers then, given they wear these things routinely. Oh, wait...

If you are looking for something real to worry about, try urban air pollution.

Yes, the vaccines were developed by scientists

BUT it was the Government which gave them the elbow room and financial backing to speed the process

Normal vaccine and medical treatments go slowly because the Scientists and their employers like to ensure each stage is secure before committing next stage expenditure

“Go for it Guys we will hold your financial risks” is what speeded process in UK
Total boll***s

Astrazeneca took on the financial risk in ramping up production of the vaccines massively BEFORE they were approved. If the vaccine had failed, they'd have lost millions.

The government stepped in to assist with the delivery program and thanks to them actually using local services (for once) instead of outsourcing, this was a success. Shame they didn't do this with T&T.

You're completely wrong. Both AstraZeneca and Pfizer had their early stage development heavily funded by the UK Government (and others), long before any approval. It would have been completely possible to develop the vaccines at that pace without the funding.

kinda of panic ?

It is very likely that a new wave of variants of the UK may arrive soon as the UK current vaccines "may not work".

WOW, seems UK has gone mad and will use humans to test the new vaccine directly in order to speed up the process and can be used directly without a need to "seek brand new approval or do lengthy clinical studies".

WOW, only Germans and Japanese in 1940s did that

Never in the history of medicine has there been a universally accepted criterion of safe, somewhat safe, unsafe drug (including vaccine).

At my age (88), I might be willing to take a chance - to die of a disease. Or, I might prefer to die of an untoward reaction while seeking to escape the disease. But the decision must be mine and mine alone. The Government must keep its paws off.

I've no idea what people mean by the new normal not being what it was.

What does it mean?
It means restrictions on travel, periodic lockdowns, face masks in shops ... greater risk in socialising in large groups ... no longer will you have to shag some stranger without a condom for risk of dying a painful death. Removed
There will not be another lockdown after this one.

We will have full sports stadiums, music concerts etc by the end of the summer.

Can we just focus on creating and maintaining a normal internal life like New Zealand, and not act like morons by jetting in and out for no good reason whilst this pandemic is still hot globally?

The virus still has the upper hand and new strains can spread quicker than we can create and roll out new vaccines.

The cost of a “good holiday” is still mass loss of life, house arrest and bankruptcy.
