Brighton sink Saints to boost survival bid
14/03/2021 | sport | football | 417
Brighton claim an important victory in their quest to avoid relegation from the Premier League and leave Southampton far from safe.
Hope Brighton manage to avoid relegation. Always liked them since watching them unlucky to lose to hot favourites Everton in 1984 FA Cup Final. If only Gordon Smith hadn’t missed a sitter in the last minute! That 1984 Final always comes up in pub quizzes due to Villa and Sunderland both scoring. Removed

Hi Vee - I recall the Gordon Smith sitter - but it was against Man U, rather than Everton! I still bear the scars...

Seriously? 1984 Everton 2 Watford 0.
1983 ManUtd 2 Brighton 2 (Smith missed)
1981 Spurs v ManCity, Villa scored in the replay
1979 Sunderland scored in Arsenal 3 ManUtd 2.

I think you've got confused. Brighton beat Everton 4-0 in the replay with Gordon Smith getting a hat-trick. Villa and Sunderland both sent off. First time players had been sent off in an FA Cup final.

Before the haters have a field day, at least Southampton are following government guidelines by being home schooled. Removed
Brilliant result for Brighton FC, their neighbours showing some love.

Fulham FC are getting relegated deservedly ??
-look at their stadium
-their fans are entitled baby boomers who own their daddies houses
-no wheelie bins, just dirty nappies all over their streets

Folks - for goodness sakes! This is deliberate attention-seeking. Isn't it obvious that this is deliberately loaded with errors to get you to respond? Don't respond, don't downvote, just report it for being off-topic & the mods will eventually ban it as they have many times before (I'm pretty sure I know which regular pathetic troll this is). Rotten luck Saints. If Brighton stay up they will be the worst team ever not to get relegated.
Ha ha total rubbish. Southampton without Ings is like Epstein without a teenage girl - all a bit limp. Removed

Excellent win for BHA.

This "new" user is a many-times banned troll, who posts lies cos its desperate for attention. Don't bother trying to correct anyone who posts like this; they know they're wrong, they're doing it DELIBERATELY. Starve them of the oxygen they crave; don't respond, don't down-vote, just report it for being off-topic until the mods ban it again!

I’ve nothing against Women’s football, but don’t watch it and find it completely frustrating when I see some headlines and then later realise it’s not men’s football being reported.
Please, BBC can you put it on a separate page, like Rugby has, for example - just to avoid the confusion.

Thanks ??

It does have a separate page, but like any sporting event including women's rugby, it may feature on the landing page of the sports section. Why don't you just go to the men's football pages?

I'm pleased somebody else thinks the same. Most of us wouldn't waste our time reading about such an irrelevant sport.

Need proper footballing teams in the premiership like Brighton and Fulham. Get rid of one of the anti-football teams like Palace or Burnley.

These little clubs have no idea how to play football. We are NUFC, the entertainers. We have the best young manager in all of the leagues, his tactical ability will give the young lad the England job soon. We have the best chairman who has put his heart and soul into the club and never any takeover bids. Greatest striker in the Premiership, 40 Million? Total bargain, have offers of twice that.

I'm sure someone will come in for Vestergaard in the summer, he's our most improved player over the last couple of seasons & would do really well with better players alongside him.
