Shame. Remember him very well from the Seventies, hell of a shot and in a great team. RIP Peter L
He could kick as hard and as accurately as Bobby Charlton. Class act.
Lorimer! All that needs to be said about the best striker of the ball I can remember seeing.
90 miles an hour
Another great from my childhood gone. A marvellous player who would easily have been a top player today.
A very sad loss.
A very sad loss.
I bet the one person who downvoted this is really nice. I doubt anyone will have anything good to say about them when their time comes
A major football crime was committed in 1975 when his goal in the European Cup final was disallowed.
Lorimer! Pick that one out!
Thanks for the memories

RIP Peter. Thoughts and prayers with family. My absolute hero. Thanks for the memories. Absolute legend. Never to be forgotten.
Team rivalries aside for once - this is a true legend lost, another sad day.
I really don't get the down votes! Are we so petty that we cannot altogether mourn the passing away of a fellow human being?
Yep, nothing to apologise or even state that..... there is nothing wrong with rivalry, it makes the game enjoyable.
Only the Tribal element spoil that!!

A great player unlike some of todays overrated and over paid prima donnas. Its sad that some mark down these comments instead of acknowledging a fine sportsman.
Who, honestly, can give a thumbs down for the passing of a true legend? RIP Peter Lorimer
Yes, as per other replies - well said. Hardest shot in football.
well said, there should be no rivalry, as fans we should appreciate just how good some players are and we have to tip our hat mebe grudgingly when a great player has a hand in beating our own team and Peter Lorimer sure had a hand in many a game doing just that gracing the field with his style and grit,Im not a Leeds fan but a fan of football and it's legends,Lorimer was one,big respect from NCFC
Yes, I was never a Leeds fan, but even I appreciated that awesome talent of Peter. It seems now that all of my legends in sport, music and film are passing on. Very sad.
Well said. Team rivalries are fine and fun but are often taken way too far. People putting down arrows against tributes to a genuine great of British domestic football, really need to take a long, hard look at themselves.
I was never a Leeds fan, but watched in awe at their great side of the 70s. So sad to see so many of that team passing away in the last 12 months or so. As a Scot in exile, I’m also mourning a Scottish great from a happier era for Scotland football. RIP Peter.
Respect and admiration to a Leeds Legend from Manchester City fans and followers. A very sad loss, I watched Peter many times
One of things that regularly pops in to my mind for no reason whatsoever is the commentator Coleman on MOTD exclaiming 'LORIMER!' as another thunderbolt flies in to the net. The balls were much heavy then too!
I was just a young kid then but always shouted Lorimer when I struck the ball! and scored
He was a superb striker of the ball and I shall always remember those days.
RIP Peter Lorimer

Well said, Warne and Glen went from Aussie.....to cricket legends when they retired, in my eyes. Only time I'll say these words, I wish this was another social media so we can all see and ask the down voters why? He was before my time but seen documentaries about the great Leeds side he was involved in. Oh and as a fellow Scot, he scored in WC, many up here haven't even seen us in one.
Football is only a game whoever you follow, and there will be another game next week. We only have one life, so make the most of it! Condolences to your family. RIP Peter
TBH, players from that era would be clueless in the modern game. Skills were basic back then. But RIP anywayz-MU fan.
It's sad that greats like Jack Charlton, Peter Lorimer and Normal Hunter have all passed in 12 months. What a loss.
Well said, thoughts are with his family.
No such thing as team rivalries being out aside, if that's your mantra then you ain't a proper football fan
He was kak man
The hardest shot in football and from distance. A real quality player in a great Leeds side. RIP PL you gave a lot to football.
And that was with the old, heavy leather balls.
He would have burst todays balls with his kicking. A fantastic player.
He would have burst todays balls with his kicking. A fantastic player.
I always remember his goal for Scotland v Zaire in the 74 World Cup.
Class ??
Class ??
Seemed his shots sometimes got to 90mph and one of his penalties was recorded at 107mph (and it was on target)
As someone who witnessed his fast bowler run up & lashing the ball with the top of his boot I wonder what he made of todays penalty takers with their hop, skip & a jump before hitting the ball with the inside of their boot.
I believe I am right in saying that one of his shots was once measured at 100mph.
My all time favourite Leeds player. Terrible news. RIP hotshot
RIP Peter, the memories of those ferocious free kick's in the 70's will never be forgotten for us older guys.
Arguably, one of the best assembled teams ever by Don Revie.

BRILLIANT player, and was not afraid to shoot from distance, a thing many player of today are afraid to do. RIP , the team of the 60's it was a joy to watch.
My favourite player when I was growing up and another Leeds legend passes on. There have been too many in the last 12 months.
RIP Peter Lorimer.

Hell of a good player who would rank amongst the greatest of today. Best wishes to his friends and family. RIP
So sad to hear this. Absolute legend for Leeds. I was lucky enough to see him play in the great Revie team in the 70's. Still is Leeds leading goal scorer. He also was a great ambassador for the club after he finished playing. RIP Peter.
Shameful comment.
Honestly do we need comments such as this , if you can't say anything respectful at this time then please refrain from posting
What a nasty and unnecessary comment. Peter was a great player and deserves much better comment than the bile from your keyboard.
You just be about as welcome at a funeral as a fart in a space suit. Class is clearly beyond you
If you have nothing good to say it's better to say nothing at all.
RIP Peter a Broughty Ferry boy.

Don't do footy anymore but from a Man Utd fan of the 70's/80's I'll add mine, RIP Peter you played for a cracking team and were robbed of the Euro Cup.
Whatever your team any fan in the Revie era must have had Leeds as a guilty pleasure.

Agreed. Another great gone. We are losing all the greats from footballs greatest era, ie 1960 / 1980.
It saddens me when those younger than me go to the turf in the sky. I mean all great Sportsmen/ women.

Life is unfair! You just want these real life superheroes to live forever. Very sad news.
He's the reason I started to follow Leeds back in the 70's! The man was and always will be a legend, RIP Hot Shot :o(
Another great Scottish player of the 1970s passes
Peter Lorimer dies at the age of 74.
He played in the 74 World Cup finals.
My dad says one of Lorimer's shots was recorded at 74 mph.
A true legend for club and country.

A truly great player.
Just one memory will do.
At White Hart Lane, in the snow. Orange ball.
Free kick fairly central 35-40 yards out.
PL builds a little tee in the snow. Carefully places the ball on it.
Everyone knows he’s going to shoot, including the great Pat Jennings (in his prime).
Never in doubt.
The ball flies straight in, pure accurate power. Nothing the keeper could do.

Yes when football was a man's game players had large balls and kicked heavy ones into them . Footballers today have to have 2 pairs of shorts and 2 shirts gloves, hat, scarf and boots lighter than slippers on
and it took me all my strength (and I'm 6 ft +) to reach the centre of the goal from the corner flag.
Great comment. I remember seeing Mel Sterland who could shoot with ferocity play for Leeds. I was stood next to an elderly gentleman who had watched Peter Lorimer. I happened to say at the time that Sterland had the hardest shot I had seen. He smiled and said Sterland’s power was like cotton wool compared to the Lorimer granite. I’ll never forget this conversation, particularly resonant today
I think the heavy footballs had been replaced by his time. Still a fearsome shot though.
So sad RIP as a youngster the Lorimer rocket was just wonderful to see, can recall numerous of his great goals on MOTD. Great memories. Respect to his family.
Love or loathe Revie's Leeds United but they had some fantastic players and Peter Lorimer was one of them. R.I.P Peter Lorimer
Makes you wonder the mentality of people who can down vote this post. GGMU
Could be wrong but out of all of that nasty Dirty Leeds team Lorimer (and Jones) seemed to me to be the nicest fellas. RIP
The hardest shot in football. RIP Peter, as kids a lot of us wanted to hit the ball as hard and true as you
I can fully relate to this post as a 10yr old in 1970, always shouted "Lorimer" when I scored a goal! RIP Peter and sincere condolences to your family.
I remember pretending to be Peter Lorimer when I was young especially if I tried to blast one. Very sad but fondly remembered
Yeah, me too. Remember his 40 yard free kick v Brazil in the 1974 World Cup ? Check it out after 1 min 40 secs : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPs5MQ1EUoc

Very sad news; a true legend. What a footballer, what a shot. Great bloke too... condolences to the family RIP Lash
Lorimer certainly helped complete the 'dirty Leeds' team.
They had Norman 'bites ya legs' Hunter, Johnny 'right hook' Giles and Billy 'bone breaker' Brenner. So they needed a diver to complete the set.
Lorimer was that man. Removed

I remember being a wee girl and watching him play for Scotland as my dad decided as he had two girls and I was the one who could sit still , that I would be the footy supporter! I can clearly hear him say " watch Lorimer he's going to shoot" and even then I knew he was something special. My dad also got really annoyed that Joe Jordan was my favourite! Many good memories of this time RIP Peter
Im so please he saw Leeds back in the top division. He could really hit a football. Really sad day. Magnificent Player and Magnificent Supporters. A Man Utd fan.
Neither boogeywoogey nor I care what team you support, especially if it is Man Utd.
as an aside - I am glad Leeds are back and playing some great football.
Really sad news. A great player in a great team. The last couple of years has seen too many of the great Leeds team of the seventies leave us
A great example to today's footballers. Loyal, brave and full of running. Dedicated to the team and less worried about his hair cut etc RIP
Life is unfair! You just want these real life superheroes to live forever. Very sad news.
clearly, you have no idea of the Revie era and the team members' prominence.
I promise you that as a 10 year old Leeds fan, having my autograph book signed by PL and actually talking to him was a superhero moment.
You are one sad sack.
RIP and condolences to his family.

Jealousy that their sad little clubs never had a Lorimer equivilent
Only way possible is that they've got big fingers like me and press the wrong button accidentally
Do what I do mate - assume people are clumsy and that the up and down buttons are pretty close together. Any other reason would make me concerned for humanity.
Forgive them, for they know not what they do.

I think the point is rivalries between any teams such as Leeds & Man Utd which is one of the fiercest are set aside when one of the greats of the game passes, RIP Peter, Ipswich fan by the way!
Speak for yourself, plenty of fans care about each other. Not everything has to be toxic and viewed as a child.
Lorimer was a great player in a great Leeds team from the late 60's through to the mid 70's. I remember some fierce clashes but each team gave as good as they got, something players and fans of today won't understand.
RIP hot shot, YNWA.
