After the first test England players, pundits and fans were crowing like the series was in the bag. Talk about premature. Typical Englishness.
Moderators censor our comments, they should delete this excuse for an article. Does Mr Shemilt get paid for this rubbish?

What's wrong with the article? I think it's fair and offers an alternate view to what is seemingly the consensus in these comments. You however have offered no validation for your complaint. So instead of making glib statements, what's your problem with it ?
yes he does and it comes out of our pockets =the bbc employs an army of one eyed reporters/pundits vaughn kuensberg mcnulty the list is endless but the worst is matt dawson -cant keep his mouth shut -loves to criticise owen farrell -dawson should think himself lucky -an average player in a less than average side now getting payed to talk tripe
Australia faced defeat after more than 35 years in Brisbane. India defeated them. Yes, pitch may be bad, but India did not win but it's England who lost. You guys do have a quality team for and against spin, period.
Guys this is a pattern of England for so many decades (not limited to cricket), not accepting new realities and finding excuses.Soon cricket will also vanish like another glory. wakeup

Has the BBC employed the guy that worked for British Rail years ago? Leaves in the line and the wrong type of snow! You got beat, India played on the same pitch, yep it was poor but they, like it or not, have better spinners and batsmen. They played the game better regardless. Poor losers always needing an excuse.
Unbelievable. You were beat, deal with it and move on. No wonder you get called whingeing poms.

Easy selection for England in the next test - 9 batsmen + Bess and Leach! Won't make a difference to the inevitable result but it sends a message to India that even having one of the best seam attacks in the world, they won't be needed. I'm afraid what India is doing is bordering on match-fixing, which is a real shame because it could have been a really exciting series otherwise.

The pitch in the last match was a big spinner but I don’t have a problem with that. It hugely favoured India as they are better an bowling spin and batting against it. That is home advantage and acceptable to use to win.
This pitch however was not a test wicket, India won by changing the rules and that is basically cheating.
It is shameful behaviour and they should apologise for it.

It looks like India will have to find another organizer for the next Test.

India are the best , almost unbeatable at home.
England's rotation came a cropper when it hit the pandemic restrictions. (Woakes the latest sent home, having been held hostage all this time.)
England's lack of respect for India with their selection merry-go-round means they deserve to lose.
India stop at nothing to win. A good thing their batsmen are not as one-eyed as some on here.

Say what you like about double standards, English conditions, etc. It simply makes no sense to build a fantastic stadium around a pitch that can't produce a test match that goes into the 3rd day.
Commentators stressed that the wickets were taken on balls that didn't spin, but of course the deliveries that did spin made playing those balls tricky and produced the error.

Let's stop moaning about the pitch, if we can stop moaning at all, that is?
I asked the question weeks ago and nobody could answer the question, because they could not stand the thought of the answer
If Joe Root does not score a Daddy hundred then this team won't score anything at all.
Ben Stokes? Don't make me laugh. A white ball slogger who rode his luck for weeks in 2019. Maksi calls it right

Further - which side would NZ prefer to face at Lords?
I think they would rather have India . . . just.
NZ bowling is (likely) to do v well against either 2 at this stage Removed

We will see how well NZ do in England very shortly.
I recall the last series was very good.
Not sure why they only get two tests.
Saying that, NZ have benefitted somewhat in this league by having played less, and more at home. Removed

NZ will feel robbed by this
They were all set to smash Engerlund in the 1 off test championship final to exact some degree recompense for being cheated out of the WC
Bolt, southee and Jamieson would have ran amock against this shower at lords
Such a shame it’s now off Removed

If it ends up NZ v AUS why play it at Lords...seems stupid to bring two teams that are next to each other half way around the world to play a Test match. If you say because it would be a neutral pitch then think again because that would not apply if England HAD qualified.
Have you checked all 630 balls of the CWC final with the same scrutiny to check for errors that might gone England’s way. Have you checked for short runs that might have enhanced NZ score. Have you factored the luck of the toss which benefitted NZ to an estimated 30 runs. When you have you can make idiotic comments like this.
A test match that last less than two days with neither side scoring 150 in any innings clearly points to a sub-standard pitch with part time bowler Root taking 5 for 8 best summing it up. I get it that the home team will always prepare a wicket to suit their strengths but this is ridiculous. It's not in the interests of cricket and the paying public have been massively short changed.
Difficult to defend this wicket and a really bad advert for test cricket but the criticism of the 2nd Test strip at Chennai was OTT (centuries for Sharma and Ashwin, 50s for Kohli, Pant, Rahane) England simply batted very poorly without application and their bowlers couldn’t exploit the conditions as well.
Those moaning about the pitch, are judging it on the end result whilst dismissing every element that occurred during the Test which led to the result. Regardless of who you support that’s nonsense.
If it ended after 2 days so be it, England should try to raise thier game.
As to it tuning fans off I think the 4K+ comments on HYS show you the rest of the series will have a lot of interest.

Let's not forget that pitches in India ALWAYS spin, yet going into this match England only chose a single spinner. But then again, apparently that's only "slightly misreading" the pitch.
Pakistani cricket fan here. Typical English winging when things don't go their way. I think india at fault for not making sure the air temperature was around 15 degrees, ball not seaming like at Leads. It's the beauty of test cricket to play on such challenging pitches. I hope next time india or pakistan tour England they will make turning pitches to make it even contest. It's great indian team
Such classless snides are not acceptable, nor healthy. When you respond with such racist tone you give away being clueless and out of contest.
Nobody is asking you to move to India or Pakistan. You were there illegally for a long time anyway!
And your country called India as the jewel in Crown. Sour grapes. Hope India will further inflict misery on this miserable England team.
A Root fanboy here thinks England went with 2 spinners
They went into the match with 1 frontline spinner and 2 frontline seam
Root and Stokes were back up
Questions?
If Root thought the pitch would suit his limited spin, why pick 3 frontline seamers?
If Moeen had been available, would they have picked both him and Leach?
- I think so.

Love cricket but this series has been a farce. I'm an India fan but this has left a sour taste in the mouth. The ICC really need to do something the doctoring (that's what it is) of pitches to suit every home team is a farce. My team seem to have upped it to a new level. Unfortunately the bcci are about as corrupt as it gets and run international cricket so they'll do what they want. Sad situation

Yes, they lost the toss and batted second. That means they were lucky with the toss?
I will spell it out for you. It was a good toss to lose. You have heard of that before?
Let me know if you need more info.
I think you are happy in your world though. England win and they were lucky? Yeah yeah, no need to talk to me again bud.
You are in great company in here though. Enjoy.

It is a good toss to lose only if the batting gets easier as the match goes on. If you thought the batting got easier as the match went on in the 3rd test, then you truly know nothing about cricket so yes there is absolutely no point talking to fools like you and yes you have some pretty good company on here as well so enjoy your foolishness with your kind.

No players on both sides have blamed the wicket except the BBC and the contributors to this conversation; which s quite surreal because the wider cricketing community is talking about the ball and the plastic coating. 20 LBW with the ball going straight , settled.
No mention about the spat between Alex and Burns news is too orchestrated on BBC

when a spin bowler can bowl a ball that leaps off of a good length on day 1 you know the pitch is crap but it is after all a third world country

Ouch must hurt this loss
Lords had a really crap pitch when India last toured England in 2018 & 20 wickets fell just on the 1st day at Lords again when England played Ireland in 2019 on presumably another crap pitch - so guess we must be a third world country too! Additionally please remember that the BCCI generates around 70% of the global income in the sport & which helps to finance our own cricket too!
Well I think you need better team. Clearly you have sent the team which is incompetent to play in testing conditions. Your "first" world country can not produce 2 decent player to play spin bowling. By they, you guys hardly win on bouncy pitches of Australia too. Your last series win came in 10 years ago. So your team can't play seam and can't play spin. Classic example of backyard lions :)
The pitch wasn’t bad, the batsmen were and you forget, Root misread it. I’m not sure what he was looking at during the practice and net sessions in the stadium, clearly a visit to spec savers is in order.
As for the ICC if they look at the Indian pitches every English pitch will also be examined and reviewed, so be careful of what you wish for... it may end up costing you your home advantage!

Typical english mentality, if wins then everything is fair but when loses then it is all cheating and unfair. Grow up! Talentless country and always needs foreigners to get talent into every sector of society.

What I say generally goes, like this opening comment for example.
It's not important though mate. It is just the way it went.
You boys love the word cry on your keyboards don't you? That is infact the 7955th time I have read that word amongst the 8000, so far.
Remember, don't disappear so quickly each time you lose - i.e 4:1

i see many indian fans like the word disgraceful, let me define that word for you 1 kholi not walking in 2nd test 2 indian groundsman in test 2-3 3 the behavour of your fans on this forum 4 the third umpiring in all games has been at best incopitent and at worse cheating
mate, you should really use the 'auto spelling check inbuilt here.. lol at 'behavour' & 'incopitent'. Answer to your points 1) Kohli not walking immediately was a reaction in disbelief ... it was that good a ball Mo bowled. 2) Groundsman made the pitch to assist spin and take out the lottery of the TOSS. 3) That's the only way u understand 4) 3rd umpires were inexperienced - COVID times.
Every home team tries to create the best conditions for winning. India create spin wickets and England resort to racist and physical bullying (Anderson Jadeja incident in 2014). Don’t know what this latest fuss is all about.
