UK unemployment has risen to 5.1% - its highest level in almost five years, official figures show.
When companies get rid of older workers because they're most expensive, the BBC retiree commentariat are aghast. But getting rid of young people is all ok apparently.
Yes it’s obvious news but there is no BBC narrative FFS. ITS CALLED REPORTING.
Well said Ahmed.
The BBC report the facts, what conclusions you jump to are of your own imagination. Are you saying the facts presented are not true?
But it's worth pointing out that it's usually Tories and the far-right that use pleb v pleb blame games to distract from their political aims and policies.

What the hell is a social media analyst?!
Awe, as you wallow in self pity & jealousy there just remember you are also a "coffin dodger" too, tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone and tomorrow may never come...
So stop being jealous of those who have earned all they have and head out and start earning you own way in life instead of being jealous of those who have done so before you.
Don't forget to do your best to dodge that coffin now...

The BBC still trying to appease the young. So what! Thousands of people have or will have lost their jobs in the near future, many of them in middle-age and older with far, far less chance of finding work, living, as we do, in a dreadfully ageist society.
I graduated in 92. Interest rates15% I remember the national graduate vacancies magazine that Summer. One sheet of A3 folded in 1/2 with McDonalds and The Army the only ones recruiting. Just one person I knew got a graduate job as a 7k a year trainee accountant. I ended upas a builders labourer with a 2:1 The difference now is that this "recession" will rapidly end as soon as lockdown is over.
Every generation faces its challenges e.g the war generations or the polio or HIV generations, those of the 50s & 60s who faced real poverty etc.
Losing a year to the pandemic at 85 is massive, at 25 it’s nothing.
Get on with it, youngsters have lost nothing.

Whilst it's never good that people have to lose their jobs, and whilst I don't particularly like sweeping generalisations, I can't help feeling a little pleased that the generation that has most selfishly ignored many of the covid restrictions is at least getting some payback.
A lot of young people turn their nose up when jobs are available they think they are God's gift.

Have you some personal experience of this or are you just repeating the usual mantra?

‘Me first’ Toryism suits those with wealth and connections (mostly older people) , it doesn’t help those without (mostly younger people).
This is why most young people can’t stand the Tories. Removed

Or because they've been brainwashed by the Liberal left that's infected every tier of education system

You should put a few of these moderators back on the dole and give the jobs to young people.

Make me who are you anyway ?

It is amazing. The BBC are pulling posts which suggest that young people are worse off now than in the 1980s. Bizarre censorship.

fist exclusion from the housing market..
then exclusion from the jobs market.
Still dont worry we have open borders and UK vacancies (even low paying) have been opened to the world by Priti Patel..
One day young adults will turn on the CEO's and Politicians and make them redundant at the ballot box ..
This Generation is ripped off by Education Uni debt ... now this should be the final straw. Removed

Strange how the older posters on here forget to mention MIRAS
===
MIRAS was completely abolished in April 2000 by Gordon Brown, who argued it had become a middle class perk.
Receiving MIRAS was one of the justifications given by
mortgage advisers when selling endowment mortgages.(Wiki)
It was introduced in 1983 & the more you borrowed the higher the tax relief. Removed

Loads of old wasters on here who probably got suckered into Brexit are on here lecturing young people on how they should train for a career in wheel tapping or fletching whilst the reality is most boomers are the laziest most self entitled mob ever to have disgraced this country.

The young have been well and truly shafted - tuition fees, unaffordable house prices, pensions........I foresee mass demonstrations - and I don't blame them. They've been let down by the older generation.
Youth unemployment is on the rise in the UK - is this the same "young people" who are "more positive" about EU migrants?....

Of course you want your kids to do the car washing jobs the Romanians left behind, don't you?
Or pick seasonal turnips in Lincolnshire like the Poles don't anymore
Or would you prefer they washed your botty like the Latvians did?

By definition youngsters are likely to be the least experienced staff and as a result the first out the door when redundancies are in the air.
Please stop this young vs old, women vs men, straight vs gays, black vs white narrative BBC. It really does lower your organisation in the minds of so many of us. Removed
