Whether you agree or disagree with the 'road map' you have to play your part. If not, don't complain, it was your choice.
Prof Whitty keeps talking about an acceptable level of deaths and refers to the 20,000 a year that society has accepted for flu.

I just worry that as soon as deaths start creeping up next winter that the snowflakes, the Brexiteers and the woke will start bleating on social media about a few thousand deaths and the government will cave in again and start adding further restrictions.

Oh give it a rest

It's a cold, it's a problem for the NHS. Most people can do their bit without going oveboard and making it out to be some major catastrophe

If you're in good health and under 60 it's no biggie

Unconstrained, only 1% of people would die, most already near the end of their lives anyway

All the restrictions are just to protect the underfunded NHS

This isn't Ebola

It's not ebola, but it's also not a cold. Covid really isn't that deadly but it will still hospitalise a lot of people and that's the main problem. If hospitals get swamped, that inevitably will diminish treatment for patients with other conditions as staff and other resources are diverted.

Does NHS funding need a major review after this? Yes. But it doesn't change the problem we face now.

23/02/2021 11:39:30 16 3

If you don't control it, it would easily spread to everyone in a short space of time. 1% of the UK population is 676,000 people. That's more than the size of Sheffield dead.

5-10% of cases are hospitalised. That's around 5 million hospitalised. In the UK we only have 170,000 hospital beds. Even if we had as many per capita as Japan (#1) this would be 700,000. And that's ALL beds, not ICU.

I take it you are not on the list for any major surgery or treatment. Yes true Covid is no more than a cold to the vast majority but sadly hospitals full of sick over 60s with Covid means there is no room/capacity for other treatments so plenty of "healthy" under 60s also die. Unconstrained maybe only 1% would die directly but another x% would die indirectly due to being unable to get care.

If it only kills 1% of people then why does it have a 3% case-fatality rate in the UK?

At 1%, of the 9,420 people that were included in yesterdays figures as having tested positive, 942 can be expected to go on to die. At the 3% we're actually recording, that number is 2,826.

Attitudes like this are the reason we've spent the first two months of 2021 in lockdown.

Many problems right now with getting everyone on board and looking out for one another stems from a society where we just fight and blame each other rather than cooperate, but those sowing divisions are most at fault.

FACT only (and regrettably) 120,000 have dies not 60 million even though most of us have had covid. 1918 version killed 228,000 (out of 40M). Now we have a vaccine too.

Covid kills very very few. To act - as Johnson does - as if kills tens of millions is yet another massive Johnson ERROR. His error - not covid - may itself kill millions.

He is incapable of telling the TRUTH. He must go.

The debate about the future seems to largely ignore how extremely effective the vaccinations are against severe disease (which is ultimately the problem with coronavirus). The chance of overwhelming hospitals will almost certainly vanish by the end of summer, never to return

Unfortunately most people can't read a map.
Cummings can, that's how he found Castle Barnard.

He's useless at following instructions though.

Are Cummings and the Con mates even listening to what Hancock is telling them?

You do know Cummings is no longer part of Government - probably not - must be missing school badly
So, we're all in prison for another four months, for no reason at all. We reached herd immunity months ago and the virus died out weeks ago. The vulnerable are vaccinated, there are no cases, everyone’s had it and the disease was harmless to nearly everyone anyway. 70 million people locked up for one year = one million people locked up for life – how does he get away with it? Prolonging the unlocking are the actions of a gov terrified of acvountability and being removed.

This is a political choice and as the weather improves people will see through this gov and lose patience.

Wait and see.

Don't see so many of the BBC attack pieces about us not joining the EU vaccine programme these days do you?

Nor much from "Independent SAGE", they group set up by the left wing purely to deliver contrary scientific opinions for media pieces.

I miss Uncle Corbz in many ways, he was funny.

With his, ‘everyone must play a part’, Hancock is just preparing to blame the public if the Lockdown exit goes wrong. We’re still waiting for him to explain why we should be grateful for his handling of PPE contracts, many of which went to cronies with no experience of providing PPE and who failed to deliver.
The point of Brexit, according to its champions, was to liberate Britain from intolerable EU rules. One of these was that government contracts should always go out to transparent competitive tender......??? Removed

It's pretty obvious.. if you are driven by data then the pendulum should swing both ways.. if the figures are better than this model the dates should be brought forward.

Hancock said this morning they wouldn't be - they can only move back.

If you want people to change behaviour you need to offer an incentive - this doesn;t do that.
eveshamsteve, is that clever enough? Did you wait? Of course not, you're a tory trollbot or an unthinking but useful idiot. Removed

Really funny reading highest rated comment.

Nice comment about coming together and then about 50 lefties (remember it's all about compassion, solidarity and open mindedness) ranting about the Daily Mail, Brexit and how if only they could inflict 100% tax on everyone earning more than 28k the world would be perfect.

Sums it up really. So glad Socialism is dying out; even Cuba's admitted failure!

China had no part in the deaths then? This narrative of the covid dead being the fault of the tories is gravestanding for political points and is pathetic just another left/bbc narrative. If you want to play the numbers game 500k was the estimated death toll so have the tories saved 400k lives? Brexit has saved many through enabling early vaccination see how juvenile all this number crunching is?

Just finished watching FM Scotland questions ! Between the political personal ambitions of the SNP inner circle, plus a bit of help from Covid, we have all witnessed the public burial of a great democratic ideal --Scottish Independence !
This current SNP. have used Indy, in a massive game of 'kick the can' ! None of the Leadership are fit for purpose . Chancers the lot of them !
