Why misfiring McIlroy needs Sunshine State swing

Rory McIlroy missed the cut last week for the first time in 30 PGA Tour events but while underlying statistics suggest a deterioration in form, here's why the Florida-swing offers cause for optimism.

Doesn't need any more money, just title hunting so I have no idea why he can't just truck up every week relaxed and have a laugh. It's the guys with no money from week to week that have all of the pressure on them

Just because he has money doesn't mean he has no pressure....just different pressure such as the weight of expectation to win again. I'm sure he has his own expectations just like everyone does.

Seems to me like he just needs to get that monkey off his back and win again, we all know how good his A game is, the longer he goes on without a win, the more the pressure builds.

Yes, it's really hard to play whilst carrying a monkey on his back

Can think of an awful lot of golfers with a cracking A game.
Most of them win things occasionally.
He's not so good a tap is gonna be turned on and watch him go.
His putting will never keep him up there yet Augusta is the one he wants?

Many amateurs on here seem to be able to analyse and dissect his game and mindset, 'hopeless with his short irons', 'can't putt', 'has pockets full of money and no desire', 'crumbles under pressure'. Only Rory knows what's happening and may not even know why, not too dissimilar to the days we have out on the course. He's played some amazing golf, won majors, has hit a bad patch. He'll bounce back.

Very true.....I have to laugh at some of the comments "can't putt" yeah OK.

In relation to the others at the top of the World list, he can't.

Compared to the average club golfer he can.

Always feel with Rory he does not practice enough. lockdown ends and he came back poor......season ends and he's come back poor........theres a pattern and it says not working hard enough during time off.

He is a fabulous driver but he can't play the game out of the rough. Also is short game is simply not good enough. Add to that inconsistent putting and you can see why he's not winning.
He has to take a long hard look at Dustin Johnson and how he turned his game around. Practice, practice and more practice with his iron play has transformed him into the best player in the world by a mile.

That would be Dustin Johnson who is 5 years older than Rory and not won as much as Rory, would it? Yes he's in good form right now, but there were many years where he was the nearly man, especially in majors.

Why is this guy always given so much publicity. He’s barely won anything and seems to have a media bandwagon around wherever he goes. Boring....

Ridiculous comment. He's won more than most out there right now, most pro golfers would love to win what RM has.

You have to look at where he was to where he is now. Yes he can play the game but not as well as he used to. Not sure if the stats show thus but i believe his form started to deteriorate when he started to play with Nike clubs at a time I didn’t even know they made clubs. I think the money they paid him at the time would have been irresistible.

It would be great if Fleetwood and Hatton delivered the amount of wins that Rory has, I would be delighted to see that, but right now, at the ages of 30 and 29, they have won zero majors between them.

Not at 31......a player in decline is a player coming towards the end of their career....like Phil Mickelson right now.
His first season without winning multiple tournaments and you're already saying he's in decline???

If he was struggling to make any cuts then you could start saying that..

Sorry but 'slow decline' starts with inability to win majors, then gradually unable to win regular tour wins . I think this is where Rory is.

Luke Donald was number one once - which tells you all you need to know about that title.

The world ranking system isn't great.....Donald was incredibly consistent for around 18 months 10 years ago, won both tours rankings, did just about everything in that time......except win a major.

So basically you have to be extremely consistent to become world no 1

Rory McIlroy has two problems. The first is in his head with mood swings and lack of concentration. The second is his Caddy. When he had JP Fitzgerald his head was straight was was his golf. His current caddy Harry Diamond has little experience so that tells in McIlroys game.

Tiger Woods was a lucky boy after a high speed crash. Looks like his golfing days are done which is a tragedy.

Could be the end of his golf career then, I hope not, would be a shame way for it to end like that.

Tiger Woods is a lucky boy he is alive. He has a serious right leg injury which required rods screws and plates. His ankle is shattered and has also been plated. He is going to need serious time to recover and will need extensive physiotherapy. what makes it worse is its his right leg which is where he puts the bulk of his weight as he swings. God speed to recover Tiger.
