Players can pull muscles during matches. It is delusional to think he needed to fake injury to beat Fritz when he was 2 sets up. No disrespect to Taylor, but Nole was easily handling him. Playing and winning 3 (best of 5) matches against top players while nursing a serious and painful injury is why he's a class act and embodies greatness. And now he's the goat.

With Djokovic coming in at a time when Federer and Nadal were winning all, 18 Grand Slams is monumenral. And the style with which he demolished Medvedev was quite unbelievable given most of us thought this would be close.

Djokovic is basically one of those people that say “hey I’m a nice guy, you should like me!” But then turns out to be more self absorbed and hypocritical.

Elite sport competition is not a personality contest.

If an athlete is good at what they do (skill), maintains their body (physical) and keeps the mental aspect strong (motivation) - everyone ought to praise such accomplishment.

A lot of athletes have not managed to get that combo working together at same time hence full respect to those have.

Winning 1 GS ain't no joke not to mention 18 !!

Djokovic is basically one of those people that say “hey I’m a nice guy, you should like me!” But then turns out to be more self absorbed and hypocritical.

Personally for me, it’s the fact he throws tantrums and smashes rackets when things go wrong but then acts afterwards like nothing ever happened, all blissful smiles. It just doesn’t come across as genuine

So you are the arbiter of how players should conduct themselves on court then? He's a man who shows his frustration, that's just the way he gets himself back on track. It probably doesn't feel genuine to to you, because you don't understand how he channels any anger and frustration It wining. Thats what a champion does.

Fair play to Djokovic; yes he is unsporting, yes he feigns injury solely to put his opponent off, but he has 18 slams. You can't argue with results.

He has looked fitter than ever in this tournament (when he isn't pretending to have torn his abs ??) and will be a threat going into the rest of the year.

A variety of reasons, really. There's obviously the Federer/Nadal element, both players have more fans and they aren't keen on seeing Djokovic potentially overtake them.

I’m a massive Federer fan but with this win Nole becomes the GOAT for me. Came along in the toughest ever era of men’s tennis, won 18GS from 28GS finals. Out of those 28 finals, 23 have been against either Federer, Nadal, Murray or Wawrinka. Add to this, the Most weeks at world number 1, every masters series title won twice. I don't think that will happen now. A great match for him was the semi-final at Wimbledon against Djokovic the year that Murray won. Nail biting. Sadly he lost and the rest if history.

He does the mind games, dying swan act with his " injuries" , getting medical treatment when he is getting beat( australian open final v Andy Murray, and again this tournament as 2 examples. According to him, he is in a struggle to recover. My own theory is given added weight by Patrick Mouratoglou's interview that novak is very much a mind game tennis player. Against spirit of tennis imo

Fantastic player. I'm not sure if it's credit to them or the young guns are just not very good and flatter them in 'old age'

It's probably a bit of both. Medvedev is in his prime, and still can't beat the 'Old Guard'. Age and injuries will beat Nadal and Djokovic, it will not be wrestled away from them by the current young guns. Djokovic will be favourite for Wimbledon and the US and Nadal will be Favourite for the French.

Disappointing that he still has to fake injuries earlier in the tournament. Until he learns humility like Rafa and Roger, he will never be loved as much as them.
Good tournament overall in difficult circumstances, very disappointed that the BBC did not do any HYS for tennis fans until the last match. Nearly every other sport has had an HYS in that time.

Probably doesn't care. I'm not a fan of his but let's face it, he has thumped Federer like a 10 bob drum. Met in 5 grand slam finals and he's won 4 of them. The only one he lost he was a 20 year old kid.

Agree on both points LDG. I think tennis has some of the better posters on HYS so it's good to read of some of you again. I wish there was reason to do so. I do wonder what would have happened if the Fritz match had not been interrupted to send the crowd home. I don't like Djokovics disrespect of other tournaments stating that his injury would have led to withdrawal had it not been a major. Crass
