COVID-19 is a type of coronavirus.

There is now a UK variant, probably originated in UK and there may be another UK variant possibly resistant to vaccines.

Is the UK responsible for providing vaccines for all new variants originating here?

It does not matter where it started. it is a worldwide problem that needs a collaborative response.

Please put nationalism aside for this. It does not help.

Great idea! Lets start blaming everybody for each infectious disease that started in their country:

Foot Mouth Disease (the UK)- perhaps?
Spanish Flu (which didn't start in Spain actually) - maybe?
Dutch Elm Disease - for coming over here and killing all our good British trees?

Or what about the millions of people, animals and plants killed when the colonial powers exported diseases globally?!

I think we need to go easy on the blame game here. Yes it originated in China, and yes they need to reform wet markets and avoid cover ups etc. But we need to recognise a pandemic can start anywhere. Remember mad cow disease? That started here and could have caused a much nastier pandemic. China need to do what we did and change their food practices to reduce the chances of it happening again.

Let’s get this country inoculated and up and running then we will be in a better place to help more of the world. Priority should be given to poorer Commonwealth countries first and the foreign aid budget used to help logistics and implementation.
Priti Patel was found to have secretly given Israel and their military millions from our "foreign aid" budget. I wonder how many taxpayers know that their money was sent to Israel's military to kill palestinians under the guise of foreign aid. Quite right we should be sharing the vaccines. If the UK wants to be a major player on the international stage post Brexit it isn't going to do so by hogging the vaccines.

It's all very well vaccinating our own population but how are we going to open up the economy if travel restrictions are still in place? Normality isn't until all restrictions (quarantine, testing, PLFs) have been abolished.
Why would anyone want to travel to Somalia before the pandemic, let alone after...

“... World doesn’t care what the British think

That's good we keep the vaccine for
Ourselves .if RWorld wants some sell it to them at 100% profit

??????????
The far left activists on these thread again criticising the UK are an absolute disgrace.

No country has done more to develop multiple vaccines, test them and offer them to other countries.

These people hate their own country and they need showing up for it. Disgusting people.

I find the Daily Mail quite interesting as well. It seems you have no real idea of the level of poverty in third world nations. I feel a little bit sorry for you personally and slightly ashamed that there are people in this country who seem to hold similar views.
No thanks but I'm ungrateful for your little bit of sorriness: yes I've met jaw-droppingly rich officials from poor countries, yes I've travelled to poor countries, yes I've seen incredible poverty and child workers. Like I said, it's due to arrogant uninformed pseudo-donors such as yourself who are enriching corrupt officials in poor countries, and keeping their ordinary citizens down-trodden. Removed

To help you out regarding the surplus thing, in production and economic terms surplus refers to anything that is left once demand and requirement has been met. We ain't there yet. Supply hasn't even passed demand yet (witness the EU debacle), so there is not even a soft surplus which would be any stock held prior to requirement being met. Removed

This is International Aid (ie with catches) with added political capital of getting one over the EU
The spivs are desperate for this, given their truly appalling overall track record to date

The UK-AZ supply contract makes interesting reading. From the pre-amble, a picture is emerging that, back in May, the UK government played a role in Oxford teaming up with AZ rather than Merck. And made sure their future supply orders would take precedence over others. With reference to clauses 13.1e and 13.1g of the EU contract, I don't think AZ is out of the woods yet.
