Why has it taken nearly a year to do this?

Why weren't challenge trials used during vaccine development to speed up their development and deployment?

The impact on society has been catastrophic and ethics considerations need to be thrown out of the window. Offer a lot of cash, explain risk of death and disability and get on with it.

We need this living nightmare to end as soon as possible.
Well done, you have demonstrated why it is dangerous to allow everyone a vote and a driving license. Removed

You missed out being allowed to breed as well!
Human Trials commenced the moment people started getting the vaccine. CDC (USA) data indicates 903 deaths shortly after receipt of dose 1. 10,400 hospital admissions - just because that happened soon after no one can swear on the bible it was directly caused by injection of foreign bodies. That data is the data from all states. Removed

What did you expect? If you vaccinate all the very old and Ill people first, obviously a significant proportion of them will die or get Ill enough to be hospitalised soon after administration - and it is very likely the vast majority would have died or been admitted had they not been vaccinated.
70
17/02/2021 11:45:07 2 1
bbc
Wrong again. Get your facts and statistics straight. When vaccinating a population you can expect a proportion of them to die / be taken ill due to unrelated causes within a short time. The figures show that there were no excess deaths amongst the vaccinated groups.
Let's hope the new vaccine design based on these new trials will be more effacious than the current drivel they're injecting currently. Removed

There is nothing wimpish about being hesitant to take a type of vaccine (mRNA - Pfizer and Moderna) that has never been approved for use in humans before. Autoimmune reactions can take several months if not years to manifest, so at this stage we simply cannot say whether these vaccines are safe long term.

Why do you have to be so tribal and childish. I am not in the at-risk category and I already had Covid. I will not take the experimental MRNA therapy until the results are proven. Apparently, the BBC don't allow dissent when it comes to commenting on the dishwater vaccine currently being given to the gullible.

Efficacious vaccines take years to test and develop and even then flaws appear.

Sounds like the government panicking and risking lives to find out quickly if the Oxford vaccine works or not. Israel have already proved the Pfizer one does!
1 - It's not the government doing this, challenge trials are often used
2 - Testing unvaccinated people is hardly going to prove a vaccine works

I think the old saying may be useful here. "Better to say nothing and be thought an idiot, than open ones mouth and prove beyond all doubt.

More like NHS drumming up business, terrified the years worth of protect the NHS is coming to and end, and they might need to start doing ops, seems most of the covid care staff were nurses and auxiliary staff, very rarely did you see a doctor in the ward nor a GP in the practice, phones calls and telling you to keep taking the pills

Is it something the virus does specifically to high BMI people that makes it more deadly, or simply that the ICU staff cannot turn them over when on ventillator as easily ?
Proof needed, as if it wasn't already obvious, that Covid is a poxy, glorified cold. Do you think they'd be deliberately infecting people with serious pathogens - say smallpox or Ebola - in "human trials"? I think not. Now the oldies are getting vaccinated and won't catch a cold again, there is literally no excuse to keep us in lockdown purgatory any longer. Removed

The ignorance astounds me. Why would we want to infect people with smallpox when the virus has been eradicated? As for Ebola, there are already 4 global human trials for an experimental vaccine - although not a human challenge trial as yet. I can personally bear witness to the fact Covid is most certainly NOT a poxy, glorified cold. The volunteers are young and healthy, known low risk for Covid.

You are sending mixed messages. The whole idea of these highly trials are specifically based on increasing understanding of the virus and save more deaths.

There isn't any ethical issue as the participants are volunteers and its controlled and limited.

Have the volunteers been told?
Britain's vaccine task force chair, Kate Bingham, said that vaccinating everyone in the country was "not going to happen," .

Bingham told the FT that vaccinating healthy people, who are much less likely to have severe outcomes from COVID-19, "could cause them some freak harm."

Its a bit late for this. They have covid treatments available in trial in the form of monoclonal antibodies - which have been used successfully on many people (including Trump). These trials should have started some time ago - if trial patients got seriously ill with covid then they could have been given monoclonal antibodies and other anti viral treatments now available.

Anyone anti vax for whatever reason, probably has no qualms about being vaccinated for anything necessary to get a visa for entry to some foreign country - especially countries where BAME people come from - so if they return 'home' anytime, they don't worry about any vaccination then. They should think on this.

I agree. The Panorama programme was consequently very shallow in my view being more like propaganda, like so many put out recently by BBC and often under guise of news. Similarly the attention given to Scottish First Minister who is rarely challenged and given huge coverage unwarranted in terms of numbers of population, that is less than some large metropolitan councils.
