Brexit: London loses out as Europe's top share trading hub
11/02/2021 | news | business | 5,678
Amsterdam ousts London in the wake of Brexit changes, as the Bank of England warns over EU financial rules.
The year of reckoning for the Brexit loonies has only just begun and now we can all see the appalling consequences of their act of self-mutilation.
Johnson gloried in his “mighty” deal with the EU which betrayed importers, exporters, our financial services industry, Northern Ireland, our fishing industry, farming, the list goes on and on.
We will be paying for years for Johnson’s Brexit disaster.

I seem to remember Rees-Mogg estimating that it'd be 50 years before we recover what we lost.

What we are seeing is EU protection. Thats what we should shout about. Why do we accept the responsibility for the trade barriers they apply to all other countries - now including us. The EU is fundamentally there to protect the French farmers and the German car makers.

IMO, London has developed into the main financial centers in Europe for two reasons: it was member of the EU and UK language is English. Due to this combination, London finance has profited more than any other EU city. Any country from RoW wanting access to EU markets were likely to set up HQs in London. One of those reasons was obliterated in Brexit/time will tell how important the other one is

There is no rejoin

The EU cannot let us rejoin because it would help populist politicians in other member countries tempt their electorates to try the same adventure

For exactly the same reason the EU could not give us a good deal and cannot do us any favours that might help make leaving less of a disaster for us

Except the EU tell us how we can work in our biggest market Europe.
