Covid: Over-70s can contact NHS for vaccine in England
08/02/2021 | news | health | 898
A national booking system is available in England that can be accessed online.
"They want people in the country illegally to know they will not be at risk of deportation if they come forward for a jab"

Really? Break the law but don't worry we will look after your health for free. No wonder we are considered a soft touch.

Its ok we dont need to give the vaccine to people we like to pretend dont exist. After all there is no way they could incubate a new strain and spread it within the cramped conditions in which they live to everyone else we do care about its there?

The more people we get vaccinated, the more the whole community is protected. It's not about being soft, it's a sensible, level headed decision. If this pandemic's taught us anything, it's that we're all in it together regardless if where we came from.

Logic says that the success of the vaccination programme, stomping on original and Kent variants (especially if stops infection as well as major illness) will inevitably lead to South African or later variant being dominant.
Of course incompetent govt can make that a reality sooner - e.g. having kept borders open.

Why? Are we getting air freight because of containers shortage?

Sorry BBC...but the news just implied that the Gov't was asking over 70's who have not been offered a jab to contact the NHS or their GP rather than wait!

This report is not correct...it was those who have been offered, but have not taken up the offer of the jab, who are being encouraged to get in touch to arrange a jab! Quite a different take!

Wrong. The government has clearly said any over 70s can and should now make contact. No stipulation that is just those who have already been contacted, as it is clearly saying they shouldn't wait to be contacted!

Completely wrong, it was repeated several times for over-70s in England without a jab or appointment to make contact to get one via the website, or phone the central number or their GP.

Conspiracy theory
Really got their fingers on the pulse of controlling the spread. NOT. It's all turned into scare the people. We were told R rate 1 or below lockdown can be eased. Now, once again, they show they haven't been telling us the truth throughout and now dismiss the R number and claim the virus is out of control? This without question is a planned action and has been from the start, in my opinion. Removed

Utter drivel

The main reason why vaccines usually take so long to be approved is because of the delays built in to doing the paperwork and getting approval for doing the clinical trials - all of which have been expedited

as well as having people who have the virus, and have had the virus - so the results can take a long time with something that isn't massively contagious

Lot of support for government failure this evening

So who thinks 120,000 covid deaths is success?

Who thinks 30,000 deaths this year alone is success?

Reasonable question

If you think that is success don't be afraid to say so

Uneducated people listen to stupid people like RG. These stupid people either feel superior telling lies to uneducated people or they have less education than the uneducated people. Personally I just think they get a kick out of thinking they know the "secret" truth. Flat earthers have mostly shut up. They moved on to vax conspiracies. More fun for them.

2. Explain yo've isolated for 11 months & will not use public transport until protected by the Vaccine: 2nd dose plus 3 wks
3. If available ask for Appt within walking distance...much safer for social distancing
4. Thank them for helping...they are doing their best

I did this, my appt moved from 2x10 miles (round trip) - to 3 miles each way, this Saturday, which I'll walk

My 74 y.o. Mum had zero flu jabs in her life and same as me got trough covid with mild 4 day fever and loss of taste and smell for 10 days or so. Why should she vaccinate herself now if vaccines do not stop the spread? Good metabolic health and vitamin D is all your body needs to fight all variants of covid19...vaccines are great but only if you unfit and cant change it. Healthy ppl should say NO. Removed

Very dangerous advice. You can't guarantee that and haven't a clue of complexities of each case, the underlying genetic predispositions for instance. So to say unless your unfit you'll definitely be fine with good diet and vitamin D is literally risking people's lives. Why say no, should no one get mumps, rubella or flu vaccines, should all diseases run rampant through society to please luddites?

Still some anti-vax people around even in that age group. How bad does a pandemic have to be before all want it? If a mutant strain that does send us back to square one evolves next winter, vaccination must be made compulsory or at the very least high-tech vaccine passports, without which travel and going into shops and restaurands is banned.

so all these people voting down the comments on what is great british success will be rejecting the offer of a vaccine, look at the EU. In which case i hope there is covid passport and you will be denied going to a restaurant, holidaying overseas, going to a pub etc
Please lets just celebrate this great achievement. Get vaccinated when its your turn
