Phil Foden is a "huge talent" but can "still improve", says Pep Guardiola after the midfielder's star showing in Manchester City's 4-1 win at Liverpool.

England will be playing 5 defenders and two defensive midfielders so Scotland will only have to face 3 of them. A couple of those players you mentioned probably won't even make the squad...

Henderson, Rice and Winks in front of Dier and Maguire with Cinderella Pickford as the last line of defence.

Don't feel sorry for the Scots feel sorry for Foden, Grealish, Maddison and Sancho for missing out while Southgate picks the donkeys and feel more sorry for Kane and Sterling who will be forced to play with the donkeys that Southgate picks.

Perhaps, if Sancho had Flopped. He has only gone on to break various records for three years, capped for england, and one of the best in germany for two years as Foden sat on the bench. Hardly a situation to compare and say 'told you so!'.

Foden was always going to break through though based on his talent. Sancho also believed in himself and became an instant star in Germany.

why does one have to be wrong? It's worked out for both of them, Sancho is having a drop in form because of an underperforming dortmund - who rarely invest properly and overachieve. Hes also probably jaded by missing out on a transfer which he felt was his 'next step' in his career!

For any player to consistently shine when playing among proven world-class players... that player just HAS to be something special. As others have said, it could all go south, but if he can keep on the straight an narrow he could become a true 'great'

So far in 2021, City have played 11 games. Liverpool have played 9. So City got a few extra days off at one point (and that’s really all it was - you make it sound like they got a fortnight-long spa break or something) - these things even out over a season.

There are so many complexities and factors influencing the league this year. This “Covid break” myth is one of the least interesting.

I’ve watched as much of Messi over the years as I’ve been able to, and he is on another level to anyone I’ve ever seen, with the possible exception of Ronaldo.

Phil is doing great and will be a star. I’m not sure he can be like Messi, and that’s no insult.

Perhaps, if Sancho had Flopped. He has only gone on to break various records for three years, capped for england, and one of the best in germany for two years as Foden sat on the bench. Hardly a situation to compare and say 'told you so!'.

Foden has 2 League titles, an FA cup, 3 league cups.
Phil also has 2 goals in 3 international appearances whilst Sancho has 3 in 18 appearances.

What I like about Foden is his directness. He glides over the ground almost effortlessly. He's got vision, passing, he's quick, he's got very high energy and he's got an eye for a goal. He doesn't have the strength that Gazza had but he's got his attitude. Quicker than Gazza

Gazza will always be king (albeit a flawed king). If only he could have steered himself in a positive direction - with good people around him . He had the world beneath his feet . Good luck Foden - do your very best please

I hope that Foden can take his footballing talent up to the next level ie: Euros & World Cup and excel . We have all seen players - past and present - who display their footballing talents in the premier league within good teams with ease only to fall short in the Euros and World Cup stage . I hope he succeeds . Come on Foden and England - please win another tournament or 2,3,4.... ??????????

Good point. Cantona failed at the next level I remember.

Most players who excel at club level (which is far above international) don't at international level because of the management, no way Gareth will get the best out of Foden, Grealish and Co.

No longer the case I'm afraid. Club football at the sharp end of the big leagues and latter stages of the CL is the barometer of a player these days, not international football
