Scotland claim a first win at Twickenham since 1983 as fly-half Finn Russell orchestrates a shock Six Nations victory against England.

Best performance I've seen by Scotland in my 39 years of life. Superb game management, superb team.

No wonder Townsend was smiling at the start of the game. True belief!

I mean, it's not the finest/best - missed some important kicks; the 'drop goal' attempt. I personally can think of some finer performances in the 90's. But this is splitting hairs. Scotland won because they had a dominant set piece and England had to chase the game as conditions deteriorated rapidly and frankly didn't stuff it up their jumper enough. Scotland defence is par excellence now though.

Could of messed things up at the end there though with the silly decision to go for an unnecessary drop goal with still enough time on the clock to allow England to score.
It could have been a different outcome if they did that against New Zealand.

But very little running even when they had chances, they would rather kick it away, rather than play like NZ do. Execution was not great too, they nail that, Scotland could be a right old force. Great win. England, hmm.

"lucky to get a losing bonus point."

You raise a good point (no pun intended). I've never been happy with bonus points for losing (it even sounds wrong) but this match is an excellent illustration.

England scored only 6 points
They didn't score a try
The score was only close because of some wayward Scottish kicking

And England get a bonus point?

I'll repeat what I said on the other forum, England totally outclassed at home by Scotland, yes Scotland. Jones has slowly destroyed English rugby, he's a dinosaur and out of his depth in the modern game. He continues to play his favourites, some of which should have been out years ago. It seems even being the European player of the year doesn't warrant a pick to join the caballe.

England fan. Scotland undoubtedly deserved to win but let's be honest England were awful.

I've defended England and Eddie Jones in the past but if this is the best we've got we need to make changes:

- Fly half, get a running player in there. E.g. Smith.
- Number 8, let's try Simmonds or Dombrandt.
- Full back. Plenty better options.

Agree on all fronts. A change of game plan too. Any kicking done was awful by England and Scotland played it far better.

Ford is a better FH. Farrell warrants dropping as he is not performing well at all. Robson and Randall may be better SHs as long as they're not told just to kick and given time to enjoy the game.

An in form 8 rather than Championship-class Billy too please.

Do you not think Smith would have been hammered out there by the Scots ? Pack was poor , tackling poor , discipline poor , set piece poor etc . Farrell can’t be blamed for this defeat as other players were not good today all over the pitch

Well said. Play players on merit, not reputation. Billy looks done, Farrell stuck in the mud and no endeavour, Youngs had a shocker. There is a wealth of talent playing week in week out in the Prem. Mix it up and bring in some young talent, bench the old brigaid or put a rocket up their butt's. Italy will be licking their lips. God help us when we play France.

I’m not sold on Farrell. Think today showed limitation.

However I’m not convinced by Smith. Looks a million dollars at times and always does something flash almost every game like the goose step, but he also has periods in almost every game where he doesn’t control it.

His game management is in question for me. I’d like a fly half that offers a running threat but need to control also.

Absolutely right. The spine of the team , no.8, scrum half, flyhalf, fullback has no dynamism, vision or flair. OF is a great kicker but limits our attack considerably.

At last a sensible appraisal, but I hope you didn't infer that Scotland only won because England were poor. The Scots should be worried that with all that possession, they didn't get more points on the board, but they played well, they played rugby, a great team effort. Now can they capitalise on this? With mainly home advantage I think maybe only the French will stand in their way.

Well done Scotland

Shocking England but then poor selection, Farrell kicking away good positions. Vunipola non existent, George never hit the target. Should be picking on Premiership form.

Only hope we will see the likes of Randall and Marcus Smith

Not sure both are ready yet. But clear that the half-backs need changing, and Farrell is NOT an International 10!

Scotland deserve it for game plan and wanting every ball more, England looked rudderless and rusty

That’s the worst I’ve seen us play in 10 years.

Robson has killed any future caps, media crying out for him to come in and that was a truly awful 30 minutes from him.

Not sure you watched the same 30 minutes as me! One poor kick but that apart quicker and better service from the scrum, but worry you not, Youngs will be back next week

Congratulations Scotland

Note to England, you are allowed to compete for the ball at the breakdown. Waiting for the opposition to give you possession is likely to end up with wooden spoon.

Are England allergic to holding the ball for more than 4 phases?

Agree, strange considering who the English and European Champions are, and how they play?
The instance where OF kicked the ball through/away after a promising phase (the only one), rather than take the tackle and reset, showed his lack of tactical thought.

Excuse my French, but that was as pi.. poor a game from England as I have seen in my 60 years of watching them. Takes me right back to the 60s when I used to run upstairs crying after yet another defeat. Managed to avoid that today, but only just. Full credit to Scotland.

What happened to Eddie the Eagles comment when he was appointed as England coach " if you play on the wrong side of the rules then you won't play for England ".

Discipline let's us down just like he has.
