Joe Root marks his 100th Test with a commanding century as England make an impressive start to the first Test against India.

Big thank you to C4 for getting the rights to this. What a joy to be able to watch live from India.

A certain other "public service broadcaster" could learn from their actions rather than spend eye-watering amounts on presenters' salaries.
Oh get over yourself. The coverage was terrible. I'd take Nass and Atherton any day over this lot and the Indian comms. Removed

I'd take actually being able to watch it over being tucked away behind a pay wall.

yes maybe they would and i would to take nass and bumble and athers any time but give a little respect for the people who lost there cricket many years ago to subscription who can not afford to pay for it . test match cricket should not be subscription by all means have odi,s ,t 20 and ipl . so well done to channel 4 also with not to many adverts like sky do have.
Fantastic by Root, but typical of the right-wing pro-Brexit BBC to open a HYS on such an Empire-affirming story. But no one is allowed to comment on the fact it now takes 71 pages of forms to export fish to the EU, or that the Conservatives' own Ethnic Minority advisor says the Conservatives approach is one of deeply divisive politics. Same old BBC. Removed

But why was Woakes not picked?

England are comfortable position another 100 to 150 really they will be drivers seat . Memorable knock from Root in his 100 th test match congratulations for reaching two milestones at same time.Again I feel India tripped in selecting team for this test match .Hopefully this test match lats for full five days.
I'm hoping it doesn't last a full 5 days ?? Removed

Unless it's a gay cricket team versus an illegal immigrant team then the BBC won't be interested in the English national game... Removed

Seeing calls here for Boycott to commentate on C4. He's 81 years old, had quadruple heart bypass surgery and doesn't want to be out and about during the pandemic as he's vulnerable. Let the old chap rest.

Can anyone explain why BBC 4 is not used between 3am and 7pm for live sport?

It's an HD channel on freeview

Isn't it perfect

My suspicion is the evil kind of competition that evolves success (ugh dirty word) and joy is distasteful to the real powers in the BBC who's agenda is one that doesn't regard these as desirable

They live in a fantasy world that has achieved nothing

Brilliant days play, shame about that last wicket of the day!

Root is simply world class and right now probably the best batsmen in the game

Our selection for this match is very puzzling, how is Lawrence a better cricketer than Bairstow? Also I would’ve dropped 1 spinner for Broad, probably Bess, but fair enough if he plays, let’s reserve comment till after the match

Just need to keep batting!
I thought squad rotation - especially during Covid - was the reason for Bairstow to be rotated.

Is it "rested" or "rotated"?

Anyway, thought Buttler was supposed not to play the first two matches also.

Awful shot played by Rory btw.

This was a good chance for him to rack on some decent runs and get at least a half century.

Sibley ......Hmmmm...Don't like him...Hang around wih no purpose ....His style of play...well...leave you to judge....bring on the Peterson and people like like that..
Ok, I'll bite.

It's great that England finally have an opening batsmen who hangs around with "no purpose"

I assume you mean Kevin?

Using him as a comparison, is like me comparing David Batty to Gazza.

"Hangs around with no purpose". How would Raj describe a 200 run partnership with his captain in 66 overs (not exactly slow btw!!!)?

Agree with you Wavey. He does the job an opener is paid to do, ie blunt the attack by seeing off the new ball. Rory Burns tried to 'get on with it' and has been slated for the shot he played. It's good to see we have a proper test opener to replace Cook at last.

Agreed the commentary, general coverage was lacklustre but given that the cash md greedy BCCI held out for the best deal for so long, the fact that the media was cobbled together in a couple of days, it could have been a lot worse.
Could have been Danny Morrison, or Rob ' I must mention Kent every three minutes' Key... so count your blessings...
Haha. BCCI didn't negotiate deal. Shows your lack of knowledge. Tosser. Removed

only way to resolve our differencies is the taunt that British troops perfomed worst in ww2, which is laughable, the Scots & English knew that too.

the honour of the army retreat to hold up the Germans in dunkirk retreat fell on the mainly English 2nd div

the English fought so well, especially against the Waffen SS, they were shot after they were overrun
