How is this wine nationalism this is nothing to do with Brexit for a change but a spat between Australia and China due to Covid 19. However if we join the CCCCCCPT or whatever it is called and the French continue slagging off our vaccines. French wines may decline and Australian wine increase.

"Wine Australia said the UK sales surge was helped by lockdowns and Brexit."

"Wine merchants in the UK have warned that drinkers could pay more per bottle on many European wines while choosing from a reduced range as the burden of post-Brexit paperwork takes effect."

British wine is hardly made now and is can be made from imported grape juice.

But English wine is an altogether different thing. The sparkling variety has beaten the finest champagnes in blind tastings.

Actually, UK white wines (English mainly, grown in the South East) are pretty darn good - sparkling wines in particular - although admittedly pricey. It's been said that thanks to climate change, the SE (Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset...) now has a better climate for producing champagne-style wines than Champagne, and good soils too.

If Brits like wine then they should ONLY be buying from traditional allies Australia, NZ, US etc.

Unlike Aussie beer, their wine is the world’s best.

Yet again the BBC uses the contemptuous term "Brits", invented by "Yanks", in its headline.

WE ARE NOT BRITS. There is no such thing.

As for purchasing wine from our friends in Australia - good. Why not? Pity we ever deserted the former Commonwealth for a bunch of lying control-freaks nearer home.
As I'm British I'm happy to be called a 'Brit' - it's what I am! Never understood why 'Paki' was considered an insult since that's just a shortened form too. Plenty of insulting names out there but those two are not. Removed
