'Liverpool show they are here to stay in title race'

Liverpool have been so impressive for so long under Jurgen Klopp that their recent blip raised rare questions, which they answered in style at Tottenham, writes Phil McNulty.

Sven Botman is the man Liverpool should sign. Young and hungry, if it doesnt work out he will still have a sell on value.

Since Klopp joined Liverpool, their net spend has been £113 million.

That is the 13th highest in England during that time period. Even the likes of Sheffield United and Fulham have had higher than that. Both the Manchester clubs have had a net spend of over £500 million.

Nearly all the money Klopp has spent has been generated by selling players. Time for the owners to step up and help him out!

He is not the answer for a Klopp team. We should trying to get Milito from real madrid on loan with an option to buy.

Yeah I would give Phillips a run as well.

He has done the job when he has come in, Jurgen clearly has his doubts about him, which I'd imagine are related to his pace, because he reads the game well, and is an excellent header of the ball.

Sometimes injuries to your 'irreplaceable' players can be the making of another. Liverpool clearly have some serious talent at their academy and in footballing terms its been hardly any time at all since their big guns were injured. Hendo is fast becoming as dependable and versatile as Milner. I'm not a fan of a prem club so I'm loving how close all this is!!

I agree, give Phillips a run in the defence. I think the yellow card actually helped him calm down a bit. He was a little lucky not to give a penalty away on Son, where he just managed to head part of ball after going over the top of him. But I would much rather see Hendo and Fab in midfield, even if we concede a few. But then what about Gini? That is probably the reason Gini will be on his way.

There is an article on the BBC website somewhere from last couple of days saying that there have been FOUR signings in the PL total so far this window, and three of those were free transfers, that is if my memory is not playing tricks on me.

It may not be FSG which is causing Liverpool not to move. The club is well known for the very thorough way it evaluates players for suitability before it even thinks about contacting them, so it may be that it has found no-one who is both suitable and available. LFC will only recruit someone who is significantly better than the academy players who have been filling in, and such people are rare.

Spurs were very poor tonight. Mourinho got his tactics completely wrong, starting defensively against an out of form attack and injury plagued back line was a questionable strategy.
When teams allow Liverpool to command the midfield, they just open the door for TAA & AR to attack again and again.

Great win for LFC, poor showing for THFC.

Mourinho got hit tactics completely right - his players didn't execute them that's the difference.

They were always going to hit on the counter attack - score (thankfully Son's goal was offside) - then sit back with 11x men behind the ball (the past 5x opponents)

LFC haven't been as fluid as they were last season and playing much slower but when you have a 11x players in front of you it's hard!

Lol. Keep hearing this false bleating, but keep seeing at least 9 first team players on the pitch every game.
You have a couple of CB's out, but that's it. Spurs, for example, had double that amount of injuries in this game alone.
Why is everything that happens in the world of football different and much worse for Liverpool than everyone else ?

Its a shame what has happened to Tottenham under Mourinho, even though the results could be irratic at best they went hard at every single team for the entire game. True they could lose to any team on an off day but they could beat any team when on it. This just isn't Tottenham. Fair play for fans sticking by it and all that but surely in their heart of hearts they want that brutal wing play again

Very true couldnt agree more, plus the added fact that the table is still a bit unbalanced with some teams having played as many as 3 games more than others (and a 9 point gap this year seems larger than ever). Also the delayed start makes us feel were further through the season than we perhaps are.

On the Kane injury I have to laugh as he constantly is held up as some wonder player when in fact he is average and simply runs into players as his main tactic (sometimes dangerously). As much as I hate to say it, I can see Man City now stretching the field and trotting home with only Liverpool keeping them in touching distance. I don't think the title will be wide open among the top 6.

Liverpool fan - fair comment - agree with what you said. A shame ALL sides cannot have more debate than flinging insults around.

Still think its Citys to lose (if they keep form of course). Rollercoaster of a season...didnt we alreadhy have Villa and Everton as possible champions earlier on in the season? Wild times, me for on I love it, Covid has been a great leveller (somehow).

Six articles on BBC Sport about the Liverpool / Spurs game. Overkill surely ?
Liverpool have had a dip in form, nothing more. VVD has been out for a good while now, but Kloppy needs to get someone in, defenders seem to get overlooked by some fans, even when many defenders do most of the work.
The front men get all the glory. Liverpool could take Jones and Rojo and from Man Utd hee hee.

Whilst i don,t know...id presume that,s Net Sales based on transfer activity alone, rather than income generated...global revenue, prem £,s & Champs League £,s all allow Liverpool net spends on tf,s to be less than 2 Championship Clubs who have no income....simply cz they have more moolah to spend without needing to sell.
It,s a really poor analogy you,ve used.

Yes they did! I am a Chelsea supporter an I realise nor Frank had the right intention but his tactics let him down. Liverpool have rediscovered that fluency that City have as well. United show glimpses of it. Probably only 4 or 5 sides try to play openly now but it is only the best that can beat the peekaboo tactics of the majority of the teams. Basically, attack against defense/power counter

I would give Gomez more time because he's young, talented and all his big injuries came on England duty, except for when his leg was broken by a rash challenge at Burnley.

As for the other 3, they should go because just as with the talented but 'made of balsa wood' Sturridge, you cannot build a team with players that cannot be relied upon to stay fit for more than 10sec.

Whilst I totally agree with the tactical analysis and pace maybe Klopp should modify his tactics a little to suit the players he has?

Same when Allison is injured. Why get players to try and do things that VVD, Gomez and Allison can? There is a reason why they are worth so much.

Good management is to adapt and my one criticism of Klopp is his failure to do so sometimes.

City had Laporte out last season and defensively they went to pieces at times. Put the jealousy to one side for a moment and just admit Klopp is still squeezing wonders from the players.

Klopp's heavy metal football is like listening to Scorpions' poodle "metal" pop. If Jose cannot beat such a ballad about love and angels style he needs to get introduced to the British heavy metal as soon as he can.
With Priest, Sabbath, Saxon or Irons the German Maines, Kiskes, Kaspareks, Dirkschneiders would not stand a chance. They would get hammered 9 out of 10 times.Stay heavy this lockdown

Doubt we’ll get anyone now.
Left it too late and everyone knows we need a CB.
Prices will be ridiculously inflated.
Personally, I’d give Nat Phillips a run.

Almost as many articles as those talking about our recent poor form. It's what happens when you are the champions.

Where´s his agent gone? Previously always on hand to explain how hard-done by Gareth has been.

Maybe RM knew what they were talking about (except Florentino Perez, of course)

Spurs were very poor tonight. Mourinho got his tactics completely wrong, starting defensively against an out of form attack and injury plagued back line was a questionable strategy.
When teams allow Liverpool to command the midfield, they just open the door for TAA & AR to attack again and again.

Great win for LFC, poor showing for THFC.

That's all Mourinho knows. Boring football, park the bus, nefarious means rather than good play. Be good riddance when he leaves.

If hadn't done that there would be a scoreline in double digits. That I assume is much worse than that spurs showing.

Jose knew they would come out guns blazing. Wouldn't blame him.

When Liverpool are in the mood, there is a limit to what one can offer to challenge.

The only questions Liverpool answered was can they capitalise on a team who constantly make defensive mistakes? All 3 goals were handed to them on a plate

At least we’ll find out if Trent can defend

As a Man Utd fan, I have constantly been saying it's only a matter of time before Liverpool regain their confidence & click. My Utd helped them last Sunday. Liverpool cut through Utd easily and was unlucky to lose the game IMO. I have always backed Klopp, I would much prefer him to Ole. In fact I wish we had got rid of Ole & brought in Brendan Rodgers. Utd won't finish in the top 4. Liverpool 2nd.

A bit of context here. LFC best Spurs with ALL FOUR of our CB’s our injured. Please tell me which other PL teams have all of their CB injured at the same time?

It’s none.

Yet some HYS anti LFC posters will say we are using injuries as an excuse .
