Probably that to avoid economic meltdown they're willing to write off their OAPs.

Germany runs the EU, I just find it so very hard to believe that the ideologues have allowed them to get away with it. Even the euro does massive favours for Germany, lower exchange rates than possible with their national currency, whilst harming the poorer states

I doubt it, in fact this EU meltdown is unprecedented, they even attacked the US over vaccines! I wonder if there is something even bigger brewing up over Covid. Germany is vaccinating over 65`s with the Pfizer-BioNTech and will use the soon to arrive Moderna vaccine. The AZ when approved will be give to those under 65. No Cull currently they can not give a vaccine they do not have or approved to any age group. yes they are, it is tested in older people in that group but not in large enough numbers for them to be satisfied with. This just smacks of a reluctance to approve the UK led vaccine, it simply dislikes the fact the UK has moved quickly and the german pfizer vaccine which is expensive and tricky to store is made less useful than the UK one.
Germany wants pfizer profits, not a UK charitable jab.
Petal get real. Johnson rushed Astrazeneca vaccine for political reasons. Germany, the US and Australia agree. Astrazeneca is not good for people over 65.

It is possible for both sides to be right about this. If Germany is saying that they feel more comfortable with the co produced Pfizer vaccine for older age groups, and use that instead, that’s rational, especially if they will get the Pfizer ones more quickly. Just as we are right to use our own home grown and ready to go supplies even if they are marginally less efficient, for speed and numbers

Even if take the lower test figures 62/70 etc , it is still better than the flu vaccine.

In good years c 50-60 - near zero in bad years (when strain in EU doesn't match guessed mix ) - and the NHS injects c20-25m doses of it every year - more this as age limit dropped.

And for many nations in the world - it is currently the only affordable and practical (distribution wise) option.
