But loss of taste and smell may be less likely to affect those with the new strain, a study suggests.
Being rude and offensive is unacceptable and duly reported. Had it, feel fine went out and spread it to as many as possible. Happy days flue and minor cold all gone. Off to illegal restaurant tonight. Open since 23 March. The, he and up yours to those who accept this

Every time a new symptom is added to the list my Wife freaks out thinking she must have had Covid sometime over the past 10 months
Hope you don't get it and suffer badly then..@rse

Try not choke on your food eh?
Apparently if you have the new Brazilian strain you become really thin and hairy.

How very rude, but actually quite funny. Could call it a Cohican....
The new strain was deemed to be more transmissible
At this point they made no claims about its lethality
The new strain is not becoming the dominant strain as it isn’t as transmissible as immediately thought
They now claim it’s more deadly
The evidence for both transmissions and lethality is very weak on both sides
They say so, themselves.
When did we start reporting half data as fact? Removed

It was originally reported as "indications" of being more transmissible, and likewise more lethal. Not as fact.
The BBC love to report these 3/4 lies. It's cannon fodder for the EU to blast at their gullible public. Some of my French family are so badly informed they think they are all going to die from the 'new super deadly UK virus'. "If you believe that", I said, "then please put me in your new Will" "So, it's not true then?" they enquired. I just rolled my eyes. I feel sorry for them.
Was. Was. Was.

And did you know each day you went into work, you could catch covid and die!!!!
why would you post that? If you had worked in a busy hospital, you would know it is an ICU, not an ITU - it couldn't be a typo as the keys are too far apart...I smell the stench of troll...
If you were telling the truth, you would understand that their current situation is not even remotely comparable to yours. It is far far worse.
Hence I don't find you credible.
Hence I don't find you credible.
And how many times did you fill up and have a que and have to extend your ward, with a limited number of staff. ICUs is well recorded for ratio and the present number. You clearly havnt worked in this situation.
And tell me - what was the nurse to patient ratio during those time? 1:1 was it? So not 2:1 or indeed 3:1 then? No. So don't be insulting and disrespectful to your colleagues. Be supportive.
When Isee the words 'left wing activists' to describe people trying to get the best conditions for themselves I always shout out 'troll!' . And then 'right wing working class Tory apologist'. As simple as that.Nothing more.
Wow. As an ex Trust Governor I never came accross anyone with that sort of attitude or any staff that professed activism of any sort whatsoever.
With that opinion of your own NHS Staff, I'm heartily relieved that you are not in ITU and hopefully not in the Nursing Profession anymore.

And you are a Boris loving right wing extremist?
Sure you were, all those global pandemics you nursed through. What are you, 120 years old?
Janet. Thank you. It was a different time. I’m not sure the public wild have wanted to demean your efforts in such times as this. All staff treating Covid are under constant pressures. Nowadays it is about ‘Me’ and that often leads to disappointment Especially when the mirror cannot lie.
The new COVID variant is not the most toxic thing to come out of Kent
Farage comes from there

Are you talking about people seeking asylum? People are not illegal and neither is seeking asylum. I realise using such dehumanising language enables you to switch off compassion but a little history should show you where this leads.
EU demands AZ give it vaccine produced in UK plants. Back of the queue is an apt response. Remember that one remoaners?
Here in Spain the politicians are lining up to get vaccinated whilst enjoying their subsidised meals in cafeterias that haven't been closed. The arseholes eat for less than half what the general population used to be able to pay and then line themselves up at the front of the queue for a jab. A bunch of total hypocrites.

It IS interesting that the 'new' variants appear to have arisen from the countries performing the most early vaccine 'trials' / 'tests'.................................
It IS a direct consequence of the vaccine, specifically one of the vaccines.
No doubt you won't believe me, but within three Months the new variant will be the dominant Covid-21 and that did not come from a 'Wet market'.
I cannot say this strongly enough, take 4000IU of Vitamin D daily and if you have symptoms 8000IU. Removed

Does it matter what variant or strain the virus is it seems to me that the symptoms are so similar that a few percentage points either way makes no difference. Look out for any of the symptoms, get a test, isolate and do as you are told. Keep everyone safe.
Agree. But you can ONLY get an NHS test if you have 1 or more of:
> new continuous dry cough
> loss of taste and smell
> high temperature.
Yet severe fatigue & headache are more common than those 3. NHS needs urgently to update its criteria for getting a test.
Also we need info on Covid self-care, ie how to look after ourselves & recognise danger signs that mean you shd call 999 fast. Removed

Hear hear, teaching colleague of my daughter did not believe she had Covid. Main symptom severe headache, then sore throat and cough. Had to be persuaded to take test. She is now fully recovered.
seriously? "we need info on Covid self-care, ie how to look after ourselves & recognise danger signs that mean you shd call 999 fast."
london variant sent to brazil and comes back called the brazilian variant, all these nations have been exposed to the london variant because reckless johnson didnt pull up the drawbridge when he should have last year, now over 100,000 deaths later still no taking back controls, heathrow was a disaster the other day and this variant is now coming back disguised as a foreign one, shameful performance/

New variants were always a possibility and seem to be coming to prominence just as we have a vaccine. The sensible thing is to follow the advice and try not to get either.
I've been looking for covid for 11 months now, still cant find it. I get the impression the government are killing off our old people on purpose!

What's happened to the BBC? I'm not just talking about this article, but why does the BBC try to propagate news, rather than just report on it. For example, why do you have a political editor reporting on Covid policy? Its just getting crazy
Because the BBC doesnt see itself as a news service, it sees itself as a political influencer. It has for decades. Stopped having proper newsreaders and reporters in the 60s. Just a bunch of politically correct left wing arts students now. Wait for the coloured homosexual artist who painted their neighbours suffering on a wall... pages of report for that.

hey, bbc you don't mention little fluffy doggie woggies in this report. you are losing your touch. you are as bent as the times who have their ears in the walls of number - all conspiratorial toffs sharing a bottle of poison together. let's hear more about the uk variant and how it came about - why the english are so dirty.

I feel that reading this is making my brain that wee bit more likely to stop my heart beating than it was before.
Start making sense. Also... lots of effort on the full stops but there's not a single capital letter.
This also hurt my brain and made it very difficult to wade through to your point.
What is your point?

The Kent variant is more infectious, the symptoms are more severe, & it's more deadly
It's also infecting more people of all ages, has forced the average hospitalization age down to 59 & has raises doubts over the effectiveness of both exposure based and vaccine based immunity
Unfortunately, it's the mildest of 3 or 4 particularly nasty variants presently doing the rounds...

The biggest virus killer in Scotland has been the SNP and Sturgeon's staggeringly inept handling of this pandemic and being responsible for the highest Care Home deaths in the UK.
Let's also add the highest drug related deaths per head of population in the developed world.

The most worrying symptom of all is the population have just accepted being locked up
