Job done. No red cards and no penalties
And they should've had a pen too.
What is VAR all about. Definite penalty, Jesus was clipped in the penalty box - fact. Mahrez was onside for his goal - fact. Stephens fouling at will but only one yellow. It didn’t matter because City won, but it could have and could do if it comes down to goal difference. Given the Martial dive last night and Bednarek sending off all of which were similar, all I ask for is consistency.
Flock off, dive. He got clipped and said it wasn't a foul as it aas an accidental coming together. A penalty but not a red. Sterling falls over far more cheaply.
There needs to be accountability. If I make mistakes at work they get picked up and I am accountable. Idiots like Dean (and the normally dependable Atkinson) make mistakes, don’t seem to learn and therefore need to have sanctions applied. Same for the VAR muppets at Stockley Park. I’m pretty sure that would ensure they look at the screens more and as a result make better decisions.
The sending off was near the end of the match. United gained momentum much earlier.
Why do people constantly blame Var? It's just a tool the refs use. Blame the refs not the system.
While VAR is operated by referees their decisions will be influenced and biased. The referees club now own the game even more than before VAR.
The amount of dubious decisions given or not given have risen since the introduction of VAR. Why is there no impartial overseer? a non referee for example' and why should the referees' onfield decision be upheld as a deal breaker? If it's wrong it's wrong.

There's nothing in the laws of the game that says a slight clip in the penalty area is a foul & automatic stonewall penalty. It's up to the discretion of the ref to decide whether it was enough to bring the player down. It's more likely to be given if a player is clipped when running at full speed, than if he's just turning on the spot & can leave his trailing foot. Basically it's up to the ref.
Could have been a lot worse. UTC and onto the next games against teams around us
City will win it this season pains me to say it they are the best team this season by far.
Fair dos mate. You deserved it last year, that defence is the key.
A game of two halves
The city half are happy they won
The Burnley half are happy it wasn’t 5-0

Why did Burnley lose this time? Was there a banner plane flying overhead?
As long as Liverpool don’t win title
Still looking UP Liverfool s
What was with the commentator's pronunciation of the City's players names? He sounded like a Belter. (Expanse series reference)
I muted it it was that annoying
To be fair, I thought BT had recruited Steve McClaren as commentator. He managed to add a dodgy accent to his already frequent mispronunciation of Gundogen's name.
Boring, boring Man City. It's getting like watching Man Unt in their heyday when all they would do was win, win, win. The unexciting brand of possession football, stretching the opposition, creating chances and invariably scoring goals with nothing coming back their way is no recipe for an exciting game for a neutral. If I want to fall asleep and Man City are on TV, they are the team to watch.
Didn't Have You Down As The Jealous Type !
Wrong! It will never be like watching Man Unt in any day. It will always be like watching MANCHESTER CITY, the best team in the world.
Would you have preferred City to lose 1-0 like your team perhaps, did?
Jealous my ex friend
Oh I forgot it's a wind up KR xx
Manchester City would like to apologise that you don't like the way they play.
They would like to suggest that you use your remote control and watch something you do enjoy.
If in fact you don't watch their games they respectfully request that you stop alleging that you do.
Thank you..... everyone at Man City

Yes well done Burnley. Good defence. There will be teams that loose to this class Man City side, 4-0, 5-0, 6-0
Not one solitary shot on target in 90 minutes.
D1ngles must have had the snip as they're firing blanks .At this rate they will playing Accy Stanley next season.

Didn’t have a shot on target against Chelsea either .. Dyche is almost as creatively bankrupt as Allardyce...
The pair of them suck all the life and enjoyment out of the game

Not a supporter but when City are on it there isn't a team in this division that is anywhere close.
Couldn't care less what money they have, every team buys their success in the PL and ALL those usually in the running have spent an absolute fortune pursuing it.

Nonsense.
City get their money from a depraved human rights abusing state.
Stop throwing everything in one pot, no club is as morally bankrupt as city. Removed

Thanks for the sensible comment Alfie ??. Unlike the many trolls on here who are nothing short of deluded.
No big wow if Man C Man U Chelsea win their games. Wooow whoopie! Billion worth teams should be winning it all every year!
IMO there is a big difference morally and in terms of fair play between success which is financed by income that a club has generated itself (eg Man Utd, Liverpool) and success which has been bankrolled by outside wealth for the benefactor's own cynical political ends (Man City, Chelsea).
Too right Alfie, you show me a football fan of any club who does not want huge investment in their own team and I will show someone who is not being honest.
We at Newcastle can only dream of anything like that but we would all take it at a shot

Liverpool firing on all cylinders can absolutely hang with City. Bit of hyperbole there methinks.
Don’t even support city- but this is spot on. Many others quick to jump on city, but I think it’s the fact that they actually win something rather than spending and winning nothing lol.
Yeah but it is a totally different level of spending with City and not through money they earned.
If you can leave out/miss through injury £500m worth of bought players and still field a starting 11 bought for nearly £600m, then something is seriously wrong with the game

The Glazers bought utd with a bank loan, they're £450 million in debt and it's growing every day.
Momentum, relentless momentum. Is it unstoppable?
If just Sterling scores more of his chances and Mahrez pass the ball more to his colleagues, City will be unstoppable, hope Pep have a word with both of them.
Been saying that all season mate, as good as we are we've carried them two all season.
True. Mahrez is too selfish many times. I am surprised his team mates still talk to him in the locker room. Pep should drill some sense in him. Great player nevertheless...
sterling should have passed to mahrez when they broke

Pathetic - everybody on BT Sport and Pat Nevin on this site said it was a blatant penalty - sick it up
And Martial Dive Last Knight that got a player sent off?
No it was a dive pal martial is a serial offender even at 6-0 up against 10 men.
Job done professionally by CENTUR100NS.
Standard/consistency of refereeing every week is questionable. Not that the decisions would have impacted the result but Jesus should have had a pen, offside lines are childish.

People who think they can decide an offside by drawing lines across the pitch are lacking numeracy. At 50 m from the origin of the lines, which is probably a camera in the stand, the error of being 0.5 degree out is .4m, roughly 1 ft 3 in old money. Then there's parallax error because the camera isn't perfectly in line. Wasn't the original intention of VAR to correct obvious errors only?

I hope that Garlick and Banaszkiewicz, who have each made fortunes in this Yank sell out; (the club reportedly now £90M worse off and saddled with debt); looked up from counting their money to see the side and bench Dyche had to put out. When I saw it, I thought we would be lucky to get away with 0-5. Outclassed but never stopped.
Not one shot on target in the whole match Burnley? At home, really? Same as Southampton's capitulation at Man Utd yesterday. Both teams must have put so much effort and excertion into the games against Liverpool that they are done for the season. Now that is respect and praise. Ending your season just to beat the mighty Liverpool ??
It’s just that they know Liverpool are fragile and very beatable.
Burnley go from glass, metal, splinters, and concrete when they play Liverpool, to paper mache, bog roll, kitchen roll, and Jelly when they play Man City.
Because City runs the opposing teams ragged.
The difference in the amount of effort Burnley put in when they face Liverpool and United compared to the way they act when City roll up is genuinely puzzling. But I suppose when Dyche basically says City is a free hit his players figure they needn't put the effort in

What are you telling me, City haven’t had any favourable decisions this year? Pull the other one. United have had loads of decisions go against them. I’m a firm believer you get what you deserve. Yes, we should have beaten Sheffield United with those two woeful decisions against us, but we didn’t deserve them.
City lucky against Villa, but they earned the right to have it go their way.

Simply the best team in the league. They are in prime form to face Liverpool. Well played!
Also there is predictably no HYS but well done Southampton on requesting Mike Dean not to officiate their games.
It’s a good job Sheff WBA and Fulham are so bad... Burnley are dreadful.. no football played ,just longball Sunday league rubbish...
Two complete matches and not one shot on target ...
if Burnley don’t get any free kicks or corners they don’t score ...
they’ll probably stay up but it’s not worth watching

And another clean sheet to Boot well done City.
don't get too cocky Man City fans, the foxes are only 5 points behind albeit you have a game in hand but still :)
You are our biggest threat

Why wasn’t Ederson sent off? Is it a Manchester thing?
That £500M spent on defenders seems to be making a difference this season.

For the Same Reason Liverpool Players don't see Red. Shouldn't You be preparing for Your Team instead of Trolling Us
Been to Belgium lately ?

Thanks for this completely boring contribution. We get it, you don’t like City, but seriously, do you really think posting these comments on every thread about us makes any difference to anything? It’s almost like you just enjoy getting downvotes. Find a better hobby.
Grow up

how do man utd manage to get mentioned in the 2nd paragraph of every report?
Pretty obvious, it gets mentioned because the journalist typed it in.
Duhhh
??????
Duhhh
??????
Why do they get mentioned in the first few comments of any hys? Can’t have it both ways.
Liverpool fan here.seriously how has var not looked at the clear foul on Jesus????yet every week we see man utd get penalty after penalty awarded to them.var is a complete joke.
United are good for ‘the brand’. Unfortunately. Last night’s refereeing decision were embarrassing.
united more aid than Oxfam.
Man Utd only beat soton because of the refs ridiculous red cards. Neither were even fouls let alone reds.
United have received six pens, hardly week after week is it
The meaning of obsession:

Well done city keep up the good work. The delusional Utd fans were celebrating like they’d won the league after pumping a 2nd string 10/9 man Saints.
A 9 man 3 string.
Such a boring result for City. I mean they just dominate the game which I find annoying and no one can beat them and the way things are going. So frustrating
multi multi millionairos 2 shanty town fc 0
Clean sheets and winning runs and whiskers on mittens.

Please Burnley, get relegated and never come back. Ooooooh pleeeeeaaasssse. Etc
Unlucky ! Burnley are too strong to get relegated, but you can dream i suppose?? how exactly are we supposed to compete with citeh! We dont have a spare billion to spend! Get real......UP THE CLARETS!
If that's what you want give Pep the Clarets squad and see how well he does. Its all that easy with loads of money to spend.UTC
You have the brain of a cardboard box
Top sides dont need pens, var or Mike Dean.
Top sides dont rely on fortune week in week out.
Pep has sorted the leaks and even without aguero all season, city will still have biggest plus goal difference, and a 15pt gap to liverpool in 2nd, followed by leicster and hopefully west ham

Wrong HYS but BBC not brave enough to have one on this subject, the abuse directed at England legend Ian Wright via social media by that lad was absolutely disgusting and should have been a prison sentence. .no room for racism in life never mind football.
Wrighty a legend, fantastic player and character but sadly peter Reid didnt get to sign him, he would of been awesome for us
BBC never opens hys on such matters, perhaps because of the fear of more abuse on its own platform and the sad reality is it will happen.
Can't believe this problem still exists in this day n age.

I see PIGMOL applied the sliding scale law in tonights match. I'd love them to explain why our refs don't get selected for world cups, maybe FIFA do not like the way they apply the laws of the game. A FIFA ref would have gone to the monitor. I know we invented the game but really, we need to apply the laws of the game as they are in the rest of the world. But the PL need to control the "Product"
