I hope both of these teams get into Europe next season. Both will be a threat esp Villa's attack.

The offside rule needs to change. It should be only offside if a whole boot is offside. Any other body part its onside. Its the only way we can get rid of these ridiculous close offsides.

Southampton have some very good players and I believe they were missing at least 4 of their best players from the squad for this game. Vestergard was a hug loss at CB this game. He scored a bullet header against us at VP in that freakish 4-0 at half-time ending up 4-3 at full-time and we managed to go on another run of wins after that one.. Brighton, WHU, Burnley home & away are some terrible results in our season. Brighton's players kicked the crap out of Jack and nothing was done to any of them. VAR is a game killer full stop.

Football is about the fans, it's about the passion and the sheer emotion when the ball hits the back of your opponents net. It is NOT about "oh we've scored, let's just hang on for a few minutes for the VAR" and then politely clap if it's allowed.

TV pundits should stop whinging about it, it's keeping them in a job

All those who constantly complained about decisions needing to be consistent... don't complain now. You've got what you deserve.
TV, pundits, radio shows have brought you here.
Players can dive and feign injury and as long as it favours your team you are happy.
But the game is dying... slowly
Good challenges produce yellow cards but the farce in every box at every corner is allowed.

Not saying Saints deserved the win but with two big decisions against us it’s a hard one to take - 1-1 would’ve been fair.
We need to invest, our squad is so light and with more injuries to manage we cannot expect to get a decent run of results. Massively missed KWP and Vestergard (still) but we need more to call upon if we ever want a shot at Europe.

It wasn’t just a “bit of luck”. Southampton we’re shafted 3 goals from VAR.
1. One of the most blatant pens you’ll see all season
2. Romeu’s goal
3. Ings offside
It’s farcical

Southampton in the bottom half of the table. Hopefully people will stop overhyping them now.

Villa fan. The offside rule is a joke. Southampton can feel hard done by today. We've been on the receiving end of these stupid rules. It's even worse when you're at a game, going mad when you score only for VAR to spoil it. Well played Saints, & a great 3 pts for us

Why are people blaming VAR?

The linesman gave offside and VAR backed up that decision. Goal would have been disallowed whether we have VAR or not.

There is no way the linesman could have seen that offside

People are blaming VAR because a perfectly good goal was ruled offside, that's why. Foxes fan, so no interest in this result either way, but for me that is just farcical. Trying to draw a line to armpit, I mean it baffles me that a degree of common sense can't be applied in these situations. If that goal was given no one would be complaining, put it that way.

Football is no longer the same. VAR has ruined the game. Can’t we go back to football of the 60s and 70s when the game was played by men. Hard and fair tackles. Good referees. No disputes. No diving. No cheating.

You do realise the linesman gave offside right?

The goal would have been disallowed, VAR or no VAR...

Delighted to see that Fraud Hassenhuttl being found out. Anyone that continually picks Stuart Armstrong deserves the sack.
As for Villa, good result, and once Sanson comes in for the lamentable McGinn they should really kick on.

Troll alert, look no further than Leslie Thornton for a classic wind-up merchant and anti-scottish apparently. Always slates Armstrong with no evidence and now McGinn. Quite pathetic really

Wow villa got a bit of luck!! Very happy to get 3 points. I feel for Southampton. No football fan likes Var.. no matter what team you support. " var is on our side"...it most definitely hasn't been, more decisions have gone against us!! Utv

Sky commentator thinking he's clever by saying "VAR! Villa's all right" needs to realise alright is one word. We got the rub tonight, we haven't on multiple occasions this season. Win some, lose some lads UTV.

The new Liverpool ? Never have I seen a team so lucky in terms of decisions and rub of the green as Aston Villa, with the exception of Liverpool of course (goes without saying) as a neutral I am gobsmacked, not only at the blatant VAR errors but also the general luck they get - amazing

Villa has been screwed by VAR everytime until this match. Give us Watkins two disallowed goals and Southampton can have this one
