Hard lines Sheffield United. Man City had to rely on a major defensive error to win the match, instead of winning it like potential champions.
Boo boo ??????
I know you’re just being a troll, but I’ll respond anyway - anybody who watches much football knows that what potential champions do is win, even on their “off days”.
Or won whilst not playing at their best...the sign of potential champions
....while the Utd goalie had to make at least three good save whereas Ederson had to bend down to pick thew ball once
I use to like that song by Paul Simon.....
They won like champions scored. Didn’t concede 3points unlike man ushited
After City went a goal up, why do any more when you know you can shut teams out?
City didn't underperform, they did exactly what they needed to do: score, keep a clean sheet, and conserve energy for more difficult games.
Perfect tactics from Pep and the team, albeit not hugely entertaining for the fans - but they'll be forgiven that in May when they lift the trophy.

Liverpool fans would tell you this is the stuff of champions. Not played that well and still won.
I wonder.
I wonder.
That's how teams become PL Champions. Sometimes you don't have to perform to win matches.
Man U fans will tell you the titles already wrapped up and its on the way to OT?
Im a Liverpool fan and had city down as favourites at the start. They are a top team.
Also a Liverpool fan. Grinding out results like this is the way to win the league. It's City's to lose now. Well played.
Yes we would
I felt Sheffield United were mostly pretty happy with 1-0, and City were pretty happy not to have to expend too much energy. Felt a bit like a light training session. Not the best game, but 3 points are 3 points!
Exactly what I thought.
Once City scored a goal I expected Sheffield to change tactics, but they did not until the final 15 minutes, the last 15 minutes were much better overall and showed that Sheffield could play football.
I also thought the referee had a poor game, as a neutral watcher I was aghast at how many fouls were just ignored, the final 15 minutes city players were being thrown to the ground not good football

Boring toothless performance from City. Almost everyone wanted City to drop points and they nearly did.
BIT THEY DIDNT - DRY THOSE SALTY YEARS ??????
.....top of the league, where are you? ??????
But they didn’t unlike United don’t know why people think Sheffield is easy team to beat there far from it
Jealous my friend
Well after watching that I can tell you this season is still wide open.
.....you were watching Fulham v West Brom then ??????
Wow, Sheffield United why did you not just roll over and let Man City tickle your belly, after your performance against United it just shows your only were up for that match, one shot on target, Awful performance and Awful attitude from Sheffield United Players and Manager, thought the manager was asking Pep for a job at the end of the match. Glad to see you relegated.
Absurd take. A struggling team have played the top two teams in the League - back to back within four days - and have conceded only two goals and picked up three points. They should take loads of positives from that.
Chris wilder have always had a arrogance about him..
He's really annoying on times and yea good riddance when they go down..
He's really annoying on times and yea good riddance when they go down..
You can only beat what's in front of you.
That is what can happen when the away side park the bus.
Not the finest performance from Man City however, a sign of true champions is when they win when they are not at their best.
We have to remember this is a team that beat Man Utd.
We have to remember this is a team that beat Man Utd.
City favourites i know
It’s also a team that have lost 16 out of 20 games. A win is a win as you say but there would have been no excuses not to have beaten them.
We also should not forget that SU had very little ambition and would have been happy with a 0-0 draw
United lost partly to Referees mistakes.
We also have to remember Man Unt are not the team they used to be.
So your team win and all you can do is obsess about United.....
I thought city only mustered a draw against Man Utd
Last season it was Liverpool getting these sort of results when needed this season it looks like City have the will to push through these results
So we’re Sheff Utd not trying today? No surprises there, then ...
Imagine if matches were awarded points on goal difference
Brentford bang a delightful 7 on the roller coaster to PL ........(45 this season)
MC manage 1 + "a display of immense defensive strength" (BBC) again SU (6 away goals in 11 matches.)
I can watch a 5 day Test match for this nonsense........

I am sure you will be quick to remind is
A squeaky one nil but 3 more points in the bag so alls well in the end.
Onwards and upwards top of the PL ready for the title to be given out.:-)
Liverpool will be 5th if lucky at the end of this season LOL

will walk the league now
Good play Sheffield. Despite the final result they didn't make it easy for them. A few more performances like this against other sides and who knows what could happen. This is a strange season so anything is possible.
However you have to try and score, Sheffield didn’t until the last 5 minutes. Their defence hasn’t really been the problem, it’s their attack. I am sure that they won’t concede many goals, but unfortunately need to be getting 2pts on average per game to stay up now and that needs team to be winning games
Hax 09, Manchester didn't play Sheffield. Sheffield FC (the oldest football club in the world - although apparently no longer in existence according to so called BBC sports (what a joke!) reporters) currently compete in the Northern Premier League Division One South East. You must mean another club.
Are you talking about Sheffield utd
bafffffffooooooooooooon!
bafffffffooooooooooooon!
Maybe Next season or in another 30 years
......best they’ve got a shotgun then ????????
I think Livarpool are above Sheffield United but the latter may just hunt them down!
Never Had You Down As The Jealous Type !
No they won’t... whatever happens, if city don’t do it, it won’t be Liverpool
Eighteen £40m+ players in their squad. Never going to be any other winner this season
FFP N/A
Tough game, hard fought by Utd who didn't really create anything and City did just enough.
Three points - move on.

Another three points for the Champs desig - SEVEN points in front of the victims .... easy street. Difficult to score against eleven behind the ball but, CENTURIONS prevail.

Remind me...how.many times have yu been champions of europe? Ill give you a clue you dont need any fingers to count up.
As a City fan, this is a crass comment. If you are actually a City fan, please take a deep breath and remember where we’ve come from and show some more respect to the challenging league we play in. If you’re actually a United/Liverpool/etc fan posting under a fake account, please just stop.
Well any team that beats Master Tactical Genius and Cardiff Legend OGS's Utd must be Brilliant.
So City winning today agianst that opponent is a great result.

And You This Sunday
Sheffield did not play one bit like a team bottom of the league. It might be too little too late but goes to show what patience with a manager can achieve.
Yes it's called relegation. When he's in championship next season he will want to use 5 subs then.
But equally didn’t play like a team who thought they would get anything from the game. When 1-0 down and defended that position, and really tried to get anything from the game in the last 5 mins
'Sheffield' battled well but congratulations go to 'Manchester' for the victory.

Another valuable three points at the end of a game we totally controlled. Sheffield Utd should have had a go a bit earlier. No point stringing 5 across the back when you're 1-0 down.
Wilder knows his team is down. He parked the bus and is into damage limitation.
we kept it tight for 75 mins then. went for it the best we could.
cannot fault sheffield uniteds tactics at all today.
no point going for it to soon and being out of reach of a point.
you need a possible result to chase

We always play 5 across the back, did it last year, the season before that and the season before that.
It doesn't mean it's out and out defensive.
We're not coming to entertain you were fighting for our lives.
And stop waffling on like some Premier League Nigel, your newly acquired money chasing x factor style fans are an embarrassment to football considering where you were a few years ago

Exactly my point.
Are you looking UP Liverfool
Why? It makes no difference how you guys play. We can only concentrate on our own games starting with West Ham tomorrow. You won ugly against Sheffield Utd but a win's a win no denying that
How mature
Obviously a Man U supporter who is jumping on the City bandwagon yet again....probably why you don't post in your normal HYS name
Remember this United beat you a few days ago

Silly comment.....your nearest rivals come from the same city so why have a go at Liverpool? You Oil.FC fans just can't help yourselves!
For now yes. You’ve got Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham up next. Don’t see a 7 point gap for long.
Your comment is about as pointless as Brexit. And contributes as much to the debate as Brexit does to the economy.
You mean Varchester Utd, Liverpool is not competing for the title at the moment.
F**k Brexit.

No, the points difference means nothing at this stage. Last season City and ManU were not looking up they needed a telescope to see us! YNWA!

Guess your “Home schooling” isn’t go well young man - please have a parent check your English before posting. ???? Southern muppet.
City did what they needed against an all but relegated Sheffield United. Jesus puts them on top of the table four points clear. Even without de Bruyne they looked in control and Gündogan and Foden had good games.
Against a team worth 100s of millions? I would expect them to be in control.!
A poor advert for the PL but they still won and they still lost so the result follows the table exactly
Poor advert for the PL? You should be witnessing/suffering the Arse v Manure game!
Boring toothless performance from City. Almost everyone wanted City to drop points and they nearly did.
So much for the thrashing many City fans had predicted. In the end, SheffU had to make a mistake and gift them a goal! Pep looked very worried in the last 10 minutes and mightily relieved when the final whistle went!! Hats off for hanging on to get a victory.
Hardly... two minutes of possession in the 86th minute? - your lot created nowt (& I don't know any city fans who thought it was going to be a roll over) Dias solid as ever
Pep himself said he was expecting a difficult game & and I, and no City fan I know, expected an easy game.
Dream on.SUFC are typical of the non- football teams that populate football these days.
Win when we don't play as well as we usually do, sign of a very very good team

Dear Sheffield Utd and Mr Wilder.
If you want to save yourselves 90 minutes of football next match, as you clearly couldn't be bothered today.
Next time please line up in the tunnel, pull down your shorts and refuse to play.
i really hope you go down.

Seriously? Blades pressing , closing down and effort seemed to be noticed by the commentators and pundits . Man C will do the same against better sides as they did today , keep the ball and suffocate the opposition when they get it . Bottom of the table side weren’t going to play with 3 up front from the start as they would have got absolutely stuffed .
Sheff U beginning to run out of games
Sheffield United.....Back you go to the Championship where you can bore the pants off your rivals there.
When the city money disappears which it inevitably will you'll end up lower than the championship. No heart at the etihad mate.
The Blades should feel proud. Played 2 of the most expensive teams in the world in the same week, scored 2 conceded 2. As usual we only lost by a single goal.
Trapdoors sucking in the Blunts.
Only as utd had 2incorrect decisions go against them plus city didn't even get out of 2nd gear as otherwise would of steam rolled the blades..
City fan here, play like that to the end of the season and you will have a chance, good luck
Boring toothless performance from City. Almost everyone wanted City to drop points and they nearly did.

Bitter man ure fan ..
Youre not gonna win anything

Bitter by any chance?
I shouldn’t worry, the Merseyside media darlings will win nothing, nailed on ??
It's "ware". Silverware.
That's how you rest players, keep a clean sheet, and take away three points.
And no injuries, that's a big positive these days for any team.
Yeah not an exciting game but many positives there being a City supporter.

Easy win today against a tinpot side. It should be SWFC in premiership not SUFC. They have class fans/ground/Chansiri super owner. From a Manchester City fan.
More like a boring defensive mistake win
Arnt Sheffield Wednesday still struggling to pay their players
id suggest changing your user name. If your going to troll put some effort in. Clown
Cant resist can you Mark, such a sad sak, theres a life out there for you somewhere
Not you again. I thought you'd been locked up for that incident in the park.
Difference is, United earned promotion, Wednesday have not. There is a lot of Irritable Owl Syndrome about.
20 years and counting W@nkyOwl.
How is life in your South Barnsley rust bucket ?
Could even be the 7th best ground in League 1 next year.

I still disagree with this. I just don’t think there can really be “favourites” this season. It’s too close and there are so many injuries happening all the time, not to mention lots of surprising results. Thrilled with how things are going for City but who knows what could happen.
City with de bruyn out, Liverpool without VVD, Gomez, Keita, Jota, for long periods also had serious injuries to Henderson, Matip, Shaquiri, TAA. Lucky lucky citeh
Then ask Burnley, West Brom, Sheff U if they can spare a few quid to bolster their team
Boring toothless performance from City. Almost everyone wanted City to drop points and they nearly did.
Should beat Burnley but don’t see MC top after Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham.
Anyones title still

You wish ??????

I made the mistake of saying Man Utd should beat Sheff Utd and look what happened there.

As a City fan, you begin to recognise these comments. You have to ask yourself, “why has somebody come on to a thread specifically about a Man City win to post this generalised angry rant?” - once you consider what the reason might be, you just feel sympathy for somebody who is clearly very unhappy.
ridiculous comment.....go away
I know what you mean. Not like Liverpool and Man United, with all their local players who have come up through the lower leagues. None of their players cost more than a hundred quid. That's proper football.
Disagree completely. After these two games where they’ve only conceded two goals against the top two teams, they should be aiming to pick up more points and try to pull off a shock survival, and I feel certain Chris Wilder will see it that way. He “parked the bus” today because if he hadn’t, his team might have taken a confidence-destroying pasting. And they did nearly snatch an equaliser!
He had FOUR strikers on the pitch by the end?!?!?
And played with 3 at the back for the last 15 minutes and were almost level with Flecks shot . Man C will hammer better sides than the Blades who played well and stopped Man C from overrunning them . Hence Man C had “a poor day at the office “ despite a full bench of internationals at Peps disposal ! Blades brought on 2 , 30+ year old strikers and nearly nicked a point !
we kept it tight and in the end forced city to park the bus.
not for 1 second am i suggesting city were ever truly worried but at the same time they will never have felt truly safe.

City are the worthy champions. That's
it. Give them the title now and stay at home everyone. Stop demoralising people by being above the law. Holidays, barber visits, parties and getting paid ridiculous amount of money for kicking a balloon wrapped up in a pig skin when we cannot even play with friends in our local parks. Impose 90% tax on that lot. Let them pay for the ones who lost their jobs

that is not City's fault.......your govt must e accountable for that
Oh boo hoo. This is a HYS on a football match. Nobody's going to listen to you, so goobye and good riddance to you.
Bless, because Sheffield United weren't playing a 'big/famous' team today, they were just glad to lose 1-0. x
Arsenal to beat United if and City will run away with it

Another example of how anything can happen in the PL unlike other leagues in Europe.
Why are people surprised City didn't win by a hatful? It doesn't happen all the time and the suggestion is disrespectful to the opposition.

It's always going to be difficult playing against a team that played with five across the back.
A good advert for the Premier League with a very strong physical side like Sheffield defending like angry men on a bus.
City organised and in control of the bus all the game took the physicality and came of of the game (bus depot) as winners after punching Sheffield United ticket.

Boring, but City controlled it. Sometimes, things just don't click. If SU had tried to win the game, City would probably have scored a few more, but they seemed happy to lose by just one goal. I doubt if they'll stay up on goal difference at the end of the season, so why not give it a go?

Easy win dispite the 1-0 scoreline for City. Did expect them to increase their goal tally a lot more though. They look odds on for the title IMO but if they are going to stumble it'll probably be next month. Burnley away, Liverpool away, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham will be a real test. If they win all of those it's goodnight for all of the chasing pack

How very original. Football is about now not the past ...
History my mate, History
The highlight of the second half was a short pass from Zinchenko to Gundogan in the 81st minute. The first time he's used his right foot this season and possibly the first time ever.
You don't know what you're talking about. Selective watching maybe?
What is wrong with that, seriously get a life
