India stun Australia for series win

India pull off an astonishing run-chase to inflict Australia's first defeat at the Gabba since 1988 and take one of the all-time great series.

That's got to be the greatest test win in history! Why

1 A virual second team
2 missing their best batsman
3 missing their best two bowlers,
4 186-6 in the first innings with an average tail.
5 successful chase of 328 on the last day
6 done against perhaps the best attack in the world
7 In Brisbane where Australia haven't lost since 88
8 to win an away series

Just incredible!

There are some incredible players in the district leagues in India. I was fortunate enough to play a few games whilst on holiday (as an ex Hampshire youth player), its mostly politics and connections that gets you to the upper echelons. Make no mistake India's second / third/ fourth team are just as talented as the first team. In any event what a great game, congrats to the Indian team.

And you could see in their replies after the match just how much this hurt them. You always hear words like "frustrated" as an excuse for another platitude: "crossing the line". They crossed the line in Sydney and while I'll freely concede other teams are no angels, the Aussies took it too far in this series. Funny how the fates can follow you.

Tim Paine is a dreadful captain. He also doesn't have the skill to back up his 'sledging' no self awareness at all - which just makes it funnier.

After watching the test documentary it appeared he got the job based on his 'good guy' persona. He's just as bad as Warner.

Captaincy errors in Stokes innings and now today (18 wides) Sadly CA will see the light and move him on.

can you imagine the fear in the aussies, when they looked around the gabba and saw the number of cameras that would be watching them.

Rumour is that the India team asked the Indian reporters to watch the ball every second of the last innings, and let the Aussies know it.
Strange that coincided with a massive drop in the Aussies bowling performance

Agree about the TV commentary. Nearly all day was spent trying to hype up the coverage of when Australia would win. Quite often I've watched cricket broadcasts muted while listening to the radio commentary.
Still, you've probably never listened to Australian commentary of Australian international football matches. Makes the cricket coverage seem very neutral and unbiased.

It's natural that home team commentators will show an element of bias. Some if the commentary by the Indians in the World Cup 2019 was cringeworthy. I particularly remember England playing India when the commentator told us that 'only Virat Kohli can bat on this pitch' in a match where Bairstow has already scored a century!

Steve Waugh was a great cricketer but like a lot of Aussies, his personality & sportsmanship are somewhat lacking. England supporter, but love any team that nails the Aussies. Always have total respect for any opposition team, that doesnt resort to cheating and are that arrogant they think the cameras lie. Cant wait for Eng v Ind.. Respect.

Unreal series. Better than the 2005 Ashes. Amazing effort considering the constant team changes for India.

Australia’s bowling was very poor apart from Cummins and Hazelwood. Lyon didn’t challenge the stumps enough, Starc bowled a poor length and Paine’s field settings, especially in the first session were poor.

Can India play again at the end of the year? Can’t see England performing like that

Perhaps, the racists in the crowd were not random blokes. They were targeting India's bowlers specifically. Even in the previous tests, they were hurling bouncers on the bowlers ferociously. Even sledging the tailenders to not end up with broken ribs.

Everything was in our favour, Australia have an amazing record at the Gabba, India were without Kohli, they were injury riddled and had young players making their debut. Yet they found a way. A word about Paine, who must be feeling it now. Despite the sledging in this series, the bad sportsmanship and the keeping, Paine has done a lot for Australian cricket. Don't forget it was he, rather than Steve Smith, who managed to bring the team back together, at least up until this series.
