Australia hold the advantage after a rain-affected second day in the decisive fourth Test against India in Brisbane.

Fair enough for this Test but this is an atypical team chosen for specific circumstances. Everyone from Curran to Wood was batting at least one place too high. Stick back in Pope, Stokes and Woakes and the middle/lower order look very different.

I'd say the batting is fairly evenly matched, might even give England a slight edge.

In Australian conditions though, I think your bowling attack holds the edge. Should make for a reasonably close series for a change.
Obviously, Australia start as favourites though.
As an England fan, I'd honestly just like to see us be competitive, first and foremost.
We have a chance though, I think.

Aussies strong favourites. Indian top order under huge pressure to both bat out time and score heavily. Their depleted bowling attack makes it hard to imagine an Indian win. 80% towards Aussie win I reckon especially as the weather forecast looks ok.

Fairly obvious, but Pujara & Rahane are the key to any hopes India have. Unless they put together a sizeable partnership, you can imagine the Aussie attack running through the middle order and tail.
That said, India have shown good fight in the series already.
Intriguing final test, deserves to go to the wire.
Personally, I don't mind which of the 3 results this ends with, it's been a great watch.

Think it was down to the re-scheduling of the IPL just before the tour that is to blame! Bad enough having to be on the road playing continuous cricket for 4 months besides also having to confine yourselves in these restrictive bubbles due to Covid. I think you're right mate, most test nations struggle for resilience in the batting these days. We all know the move towards the shorter form has accelerated that. Just like Australia, England and India, the other traditional big boys, are never far from a collapse.
I'm not sure about England in India, such a tough tour. They're capable, but have to start fast. I'd side towards a drawn series tbh.

Smith and Warner should have been banned for life.
They actively chose to cheat, no grey area, no 'questionable', or 'dubious' about what they did, they knew it was cheating, and they actively chose to do it.
There should be no place in international cricket for people who take such actions, and I think most countries would never pick such players again whatever their position otherwise.

Just read on England match that their us chirp by the fielders trying to get under the batsmans skin, but this seems ok? So, whats the difference between chirp and sledging? or is it just whose fielding at the time?? Removed

If you’re going to compare the Sri Lankan attack to what you can expect later in the year, you’re deluded.
In terms of England’s performance, with the exception of Root, you are probably right! Last 6 wickets fell for 50 odd, and the less said about Bess’ 5 for the better.

Fact remains you beat a “B” team deprived of the batters who had scored 60% of the runs in the previous 12 months. And the BCCI still refused to play on bouncy tracks - dictated they would play Gabba or Perth but not both (they duly lost in Perth). Funny how Indians celebrated like no tomorrow a narrow win 2 years ago against an Australian side excluding Smith and Warner. Not to mention the BCCI throwing their weight around and refusing to play at the Gabba.

Your memory is of only 5 years old since you said only half the story. Dont worry I will remind you. Had rain gods not came for you, it was 3-1 in Sydney in 2018-19 tests. In fact Australia was following on to India`s mammoth score of 600+. Even Gods were so embarrassed that did not want any further humiliation to Australia.

In their favourite ground, needing to win, up against the Indian third XI and despite their usual gamesmanship and all the rest of it and still the Aussies are struggling. We’ll go through them when we get the chance later this year.

Yes, just like the last time England visited Australia. A 4-1 whitewash.
It's the usual cockiness before the Ashes you guys always seem to display.

The match is 60-40 in Australia's favour but if India manages to get a reply of 350 the pressure will be back on Australia to win a must win fight to regain the trophy while India needs a draw to retain the same.

As an Englishman, can we stop these offensive comments about cheating? What Warner and Bancroft did, and Smith wasn't vigilant about as captain, was wrong. They've done the time - a 12 month ban from their own Board when the standard ICC penalty was just 4 demerit points as handed out to Atherton, Du Plessis and even Tendulkar. Frankly, I cringe when I read the football terrace vitriol on here.
Well said, mate. Will be lost on the sanctimonious hypocrites and biased moderators on this site though. Removed

Yeah, well said mate. International cricket should be enjoyed with good natured banter - not vitriol. I guess that’s a difference between UK and Oz culture - soccer fans segregated in the UK and given police escorts to the ground whereas over here we sit side by side and enjoy humorous banter.

Same offences anywhere else in the world would never have seen similar sanctions by any board whether ECB or BCCI. What they did was unacceptable but they more than did their time.

Oh please, dismount that high horse for a minute.

And there haven't been football terraces for 20 years so it shows what you know.

The home win will be all the sweeter knowing you genuinely believe that too!
Don’t worry about what’s happening in the current test series (England won’t want to be relying on current form from what I’m seeing in Sri Lanka!), you know what you’ll be facing when you get to Oz later this year.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree India, or any team in this scenario would fall, but 2 things make me feel different.

The fight, guts, fortitude shown by India in the last game, when they had three wheels on their wagon fought for that draw, and the fact this 2nd/3rd string bowling attack still managed to get Australia out for just 369, and could have been a lot less if catches had been held

Why? Do you have information that the Aus team have found a supply of skin toned sandpaper?
Otherwise it is as we have seen certainly possible for India to make a decent score vs this attack.
