Any Aussie fan with a keen eye will have noticed England,s tail collapsed versus a very weak Sri Lankan team and will be rubbing their hands with glee-can you blame them-no !
Aussies got their own issues to be worrying about-don’t want to become a team who can’t finish the opposition!
Maybe they noticed Root's 228 as well ??
To be fair, Australia are making hard work of beating a second string India team (at home).
chasing quick runs to declare because of uncertain weather outlook. Not quite the same as being rolled over. Good luck trying to get Leach out this time..... if he is required to bat
Fair enough for this Test but this is an atypical team chosen for specific circumstances. Everyone from Curran to Wood was batting at least one place too high. Stick back in Pope, Stokes and Woakes and the middle/lower order look very different.
I'd say the batting is fairly evenly matched, might even give England a slight edge.
In Australian conditions though, I think your bowling attack holds the edge. Should make for a reasonably close series for a change.
Obviously, Australia start as favourites though.
As an England fan, I'd honestly just like to see us be competitive, first and foremost.
We have a chance though, I think.

Not always Scaarn. You're an example of a 'not bad' Aussie. I enjoy the fact you're always on here defending your team.
Still think your batting is a little suspect, but your bowling attack is good enough to cover that weakness most of the time.
That said, every test nation has weaknesses. It's been a good series to watch as a neutral.

Fairly obvious, but Pujara & Rahane are the key to any hopes India have. Unless they put together a sizeable partnership, you can imagine the Aussie attack running through the middle order and tail.
That said, India have shown good fight in the series already.
Intriguing final test, deserves to go to the wire.
Personally, I don't mind which of the 3 results this ends with, it's been a great watch.

Sounds like the typical UK colonial racist defence - I have a mate from the colonies so I’m not prejudiced. Look at yourself, mate.
Even if Australia win this match, it will COUNT FOR NOTHING as free their continued DISGRACEFUL CHEATING. Smith and Payne should be banned for life.

Move on mate....that bitterness is eating you alive lol
369 on a flat pitch, not bad against India's second string of bowling. Luckily for them India dropped a few catches to give them a chance. Can't wait to face this rubbish later in year
Australia’s batting not consistent enough for sure, but the quality is there and will be 100% prepared for when the Poms arrive.
Don’t get too far ahead of yourself with success in Sri Lanka....hardly comparible

This is an India B team. The Indian management must take responsibility for not preparing properly for this Aussie tour. It's like the walking wounded and unfit players for India. Their slip catchers are badly positioned and need more practise. Where are their good bowlers ? A half decent Indian team can beat this Aussie team.
Funny how Indians celebrated like no tomorrow a narrow win 2 years ago against an Australian side excluding Smith and Warner. Not to mention the BCCI throwing their weight around and refusing to play at the Gabba.
Think it was down to the re-scheduling of the IPL just before the tour that is to blame! Bad enough having to be on the road playing continuous cricket for 4 months besides also having to confine yourselves in these restrictive bubbles due to Covid. However nothing seems to have been learnt by the BCCI - we now again are going to have the next IPL soon squeezed between playing England home & away

Oye loudmouth, let England win against Sri lanka first. Dont see that happening here at Galle as lanka are gonna post 500+
I think you're right mate, most test nations struggle for resilience in the batting these days. We all know the move towards the shorter form has accelerated that. Just like Australia, England and India, the other traditional big boys, are never far from a collapse.
I'm not sure about England in India, such a tough tour. They're capable, but have to start fast. I'd side towards a drawn series tbh.

Has Australia won all the tosses in this series ? Even then there still struggling to score past 400 against possibly a third choice attack (Wonder how Bumrah or shami would have bowled on this track)
England will be chomping at the bit to get at them

The depleted weak Indian attack haven’t got much chance against this not so good Aussie side. They have been relying on the same old bowlers for years , so when injuries occur that's what you get. Why didn’t Chahal play , the new bowlers look like part - timers from a Sunday league, embarrasing. Indian teams have always lacked a world class bowling attack, the emphasis has always been on batting .
What a misleading headline. Designed as clickbait. I don't see Australia on top, even with Rohit's wicket.
Come on BBC, you can do better than this

Australia will win this test but it will not be classed as a great achievement against this B class Indian team which is minus many experienced players due to injury. However Rohit threw his wicket away and they missed catches which cannot be forgiven. Sledging also puts a bad taste in the mouth. It’s a gentleman’s game and should be played as one. Good old test cricket is sadly gone.

Just to point out Smith and Warner were missing because they had been suspended due to being caught cheating. If that had been a different country they would not have ever returned to the national side.
Stop waffling my guy Indias whole bowling attack has completely changed not to mention the loss of KOHLI, Kl Rahul, Vihari. So lets not chat about TWO players who were rightfully banned one of which has been absolutely shocking anyway the other is admittedly class

they werent " missing" smith and warner for no reason tho, they cheated and were banned.
Wow you keep repeating the same boring pointless comment, about 2 cheats....Who actually shouldn't be playing International Cricket...Jog along or change the record.
Funny how Vampire keeps spewing the same garbage in the hopes in might be true one day. Absolutely no clue but cricket and just selective amnesia..
Smith and Warner should have been banned for life.
They actively chose to cheat, no grey area, no 'questionable', or 'dubious' about what they did, they knew it was cheating, and they actively chose to do it.
There should be no place in international cricket for people who take such actions, and I think most countries would never pick such players again whatever their position otherwise.

I notice Pant called for treatment on his hand after a clumsy take. Surprised they didn’t send the better keeper Saha out as a sun - allowing Pant to rest up and focus on his batting.
well they had called Smith to sand it down for him but he was busy raking with his feet elsewhere.

Good points! And difference between Eng and Aus has been Root and Smith - Smith has outscored Root massively but Root knows this if he steps up this year it will be England's series
If you’re going to compare the Sri Lankan attack to what you can expect later in the year, you’re deluded.
In terms of England’s performance, with the exception of Root, you are probably right! Last 6 wickets fell for 50 odd, and the less said about Bess’ 5 for the better.
Can’t wait to ‘face that rubbish later in the year’

Is it true the groundsman takes the day off when India are batting and Smith will be looking after the pitch?
Actually quite funny.
Smith has been sacked from his ironing job for slow work
He spent too much time at the crease

Just read on England match that their us chirp by the fielders trying to get under the batsmans skin, but this seems ok? So, whats the difference between chirp and sledging? or is it just whose fielding at the time??

Chirping is good natured at heart, e.g. good ball that did well to miss it, sledging is vindictive comments to put off batsman - paine 'no one likes you on your team' etc. Is difficult to sometimes see difference esp as rude people just says it's banter to excuse their comments and line between two is not clear!

I wonder what you'd hear if Anderson was in range of stump mic?
No. Chirping is when it is by the team you support, sledging is by a team you don't.
Personally, you shouldn't say something to the batsman you wouldn't be willing to say to him off the field. At the level I played you knew if it went too far you were liable to get a punch in the nose out in the middle & usually the persons own team was telling him to give it a rest as he was getting boring.....

The biggest zombie myth in international cricket is that only Australians sledge. Jimmy Anderson is the biggest sledger still playing. WG Grace probably the biggest in history.
Those lower order runs by Starc, Lyon and Hazlewood may prove very important. Another great test match developing

What is pretty obvious here is the depth in quality Indian players.
What is pretty obvious is how bad Australia are. Struggling to beat a 3rd String Indian 11.
Australia have serious issues. Smith is a disgrace and a cheat. How he got away with removing a batsman's mark is unreal.
SHOULD HAVE BANNED HIM FOR THAT!!

The good news is we’ll get a test series in Australia later this year to show you how far ahead of England Australia really are.
The fact you are distracted (worried) by Smith highlights so much.

As an Englishman, can we stop these offensive comments about cheating? What Warner and Bancroft did, and Smith wasn't vigilant about as captain, was wrong. They've done the time - a 12 month ban from their own Board when the standard ICC penalty was just 4 demerit points as handed out to Atherton, Du Plessis and even Tendulkar. I would argue Jolomo that you are making it too subjective, where it is objective - your own comment proves that, by own team getting annoyed by team mate so it can't just be based on which team is doing it, but by a line where if you cross it others try to hit you and own team tell you to shut it, that line will move team to team but everyone has a line,
haha Scaarn. If one tries enough times then we have to get one of the comments reasonably funny? amongst all the rubbish lol

Is the Gabba far from Galle in Sri Lanka?
We NEED smudge to come and work on that wicket for us. Sri Lanka very comfortable at the moment.
No sledging required though. I have always found that to be totally and utterly pointless.

Don’t worry about what’s happening in the current test series (England won’t want to be relying on current form from what I’m seeing in Sri Lanka!), you know what you’ll be facing when you get to Oz later this year.

duno why your bringing god into hiral....the vampire is an aussie...
Fact remains you beat a “B” team deprived of the batters who had scored 60% of the runs in the previous 12 months. And the BCCI still refused to play on bouncy tracks - dictated they would play Gabba or Perth but not both (they duly lost in Perth). Can you imagine any other country telling them they wouldn’t play in Calcutta? The BCCI are a malign influence in world cricket.
Aussies are expert at sledging.
They're also expert at chirping to the umpires when they receive vociferous feedback from the crowd.

How's 4-1 a whitewash?
The match is 60-40 in Australia's favour but if India manages to get a reply of 350 the pressure will be back on Australia to win a must win fight to regain the trophy while India needs a draw to retain the same.

Common sense can be hard to come by around here but I commend your efforts either way.
Yeah, well said mate. International cricket should be enjoyed with good natured banter - not vitriol. I guess that’s a difference between UK and Oz culture - soccer fans segregated in the UK and given police escorts to the ground whereas over here we sit side by side and enjoy humorous banter.
Same offences anywhere else in the world would never have seen similar sanctions by any board whether ECB or BCCI. What they did was unacceptable but they more than did their time.
"Frankly, I cringe when I read the football terrace vitriol on here."

Under normal circumstances I'd agree India, or any team in this scenario would fall, but 2 things make me feel different.
The fight, guts, fortitude shown by India in the last game, when they had three wheels on their wagon fought for that draw, and the fact this 2nd/3rd string bowling attack still managed to get Australia out for just 369, and could have been a lot less if catches had been held

Same Joke book you had for Xmas.
How the new lad recovering Will as shoulder damage I hear. Would have been good to see him carry on in the line up.
