He did not single-handley change united's fortunes. Do you not see the other players there. He looses the ball half the time. Takes penalties and dead balls for numbers. He's good but so is Progba, Rashford, and the rest. Shows how poor the punditry is from these ex players

Fernandes, VVD and Suarez should be the only 3 on the survey as they're the only ones who have propelled their team to another level. However, football is a team game so single handedly is a ridiculous thing to claim. Great players lift every other player around them too.

Just like when Leeds buy Haaland this weekend and he becomes this best signing for any club, ever.

Caroll was doing the business at Newcastle before we signed him, he was one of the hottest prospects around at the time so I was excited when we got him, especially as he was signed by Dalglish who has always had a good eye for forwards over the years (Beardsley, Rush, Aldridge, Shearer, Sutton, Speedie, Rosenthal, Suarez to name but a few). For whatever reason, he never found the same form again.

It was a panic buy on the transfer deadline after selling Torres - given Carroll’s form with Newcastle, Liverpool’s anemia up front, and his age, they had to gamble. It didn’t pan out. That’s the risks of January moves.

There was an agreement between Liverpool and Newcastle at the start of negotiations that Carroll would transfer at 15m less than the Torres fee. So if Torres went for 40m then Carroll would have cost 25m. I assume that there was a lower limit to that but Carroll was only overpriced because Torres was.

I believe, scoring all those penalties exaggerates his performances.
As the report states, he has took MU from 5th to 2nd (currently). Not exactly mind blowing. In a weeks time, they could be 5th again.

Agreed, Suarez was a force, transformed Liverpool and didnt need penalties to statpad his record. If you look past Bruno's penalty technique he's a very good player but he gives away possession for fun, have watched many games where he's having a stinker only to get a last min penalty and win MoTM and now all this embarassing new-Cantona hyperbole.

You need to take everything into account - fee, influence on the team, what they won etc. So you can't really make a judgement until a player ends his time at the club, or has spent a significant time there. So, for all those factors, my choice would be Vidic. VVD and BF great signings, but it depends on how much they have won down the line. This is just my view - don't get upset if you disagree!!

Tell me one occasion where he's done this. I could go through every pen and tell you why it's a pen. But the Villa one. Bruno stands on his foot, yes, but he's turning and trying to get away from the defender. The guy sticks his foot there trips him up. If you tried to quickly turn and feed the ball , would you be at full balance if you put your foot down to find not hard ground, but an uneven leg

Is Fernandez the best January signing?

Let’s assess this.

He cost £47m - he’s not won anything, bottled it in Europe so is playing Thursday night football and yet he’s playing for the ‘biggest club in the world’

United win a couple of football matches in a row and now this hyperbole.

He went missing at home to Sheff U.

He doesn’t even make the top 5!

Van Dijk, Suarez and Evra all better for the impact made on the pitch. The article says that Man U went from 5th when Fernandes signed to 2nd now-we’re not talking a huge jump. Man U lose a few this season and they could well be 5th again.
Could argue that Coutinho was the best signing of the lot, as the profit Liverpool made when they sold him paid for the key players who won them the league

Depends on how you want to measure it. If we're talking impact on a club it's Van Dijk, Suarez or Fernandes. If it's value for money, it's clearly Coleman. My personal favourite of those is Vidic, who took a little time to settle but was immense alongside Ferdinand for years.
