Liverpool overcome inexperienced Villa
08/01/2021 | sport | football | 2,042
Liverpool reach the FA Cup fourth round with a 4-1 win over a Covid-affected Aston Villa - but they are made to work hard by a team that had no first-team experience.

LFC fan.

Villa's kids defended brilliantly for 60 minutes and took their goal really well.

LFC showed the areas they need to improve upon (too many loose passes and need a better final ball).

Well done to Villa.

It is absolutely ridiculous that this match even went ahead.

Seriously disappointed in those that made this decision.

No disrespect to the Villa youngsters, but whoever sent them out there knew they didn't have a cat in hell's chance of winning. Just forfeit the match instead of unnecessarily risking the health of everyone at the stadium! Madness.

Klopp deserves credit too for treating them seriously as pointed out earlier, I bet those Villa lads remember this game for the rest of their careers, I might take the mickey out of the reds (I'm an Evertonian) but they are a hell of a side and for Klopp to send such a strong side out is deserving of respect. Nah mate, if Liverpool played their best team from the start and had the same scoreline, I would've accepted it and it would've been mutual respect. But they underestimated the boys, then used the only advantage they had which is a world class bench rather than letting the players on the pitch prove themselves (against BOYS) lol...

I am glad Klopp kept with his team and played the game properly. I also think it's a moral gain for the kids that he had to make those substitutions to break them down. Remember Crystal Palace lost 7-0 to Liverpool recently. In context, that's not bad. I guess they learnt something from the Sunderland game, but also I think it's hard for Liverpool to play a team like this.

Similar to 2019 when Liverpool were forced within about 48 hours to play in 2 countries. In terms of team strength, Liverpool just needed a result after draws and lost to shake it off, plus many players coming back from injury getting minutes but not ready for 90.

Agree about kids getting chance to play against top players. Some of these young guys will get other chances as their careers develop. I think it resolved a problem of whether Villa should try and take the cup seriously or focus on the league, although it's a long way from ideal. However on the positive magic experience for those kids facing real first class players and realising that they have skills of their own. Some real stars of the future there imo. Maybe loan moves this month to give them some more game experience?

Was glad Hendo was taken off . Once regular players are back, he should not be starting. He should have been replaced as a captain at least two years ago. More than 1/2 is better than Hendo. Hendo belongs in the Championship. Klopp, please do the right thing otherwise he will mess up your legacy at Liverpool. He is past his "best".

Covid is an illness, just like food poisoning. Football fans are so selfish. The games must be played. The fixture wasn't Villa 1st team vs Liverpool 1st team. The game is between the clubs. If they have players on their books, play them. The Villa kids did very well and will learn a lot from that game. I'm not a Liverpool fan, not even a football fan but this selfish train of thought irritates.

Hate to be a stickler but only one side was forced to play kids.
Liverpool could've left behind a few (reserve) senior players & made up the numbers with youth.

Or not gone to the CWC at all.

I respect their decision & their kids did them proud but it was still a choice that Villa didn't have.

We didn't even have the full youth team at our disposal: 4 had been with the senior squad so isolated

Comical really. Should have been called off.
Villa first team would have knocked them for seven again.
Could not break down the under 12s for over 50 mins.
LFC really need to be worried as decent teams will cause them true grief.
