Realised they had to sacrifice Red ball to dominate White and see what happened especially when the Test Championship came in play.

Good positive move with Sibley and Crawley to open despite him saying he loves batting at 3. Obviously selectors have looked at this and chatted to him about it as well.

Fair comment and yes we know why he is there opening.

Yes be good to get a stable Top order going again and laying that foundation down for a good runs total.

The key issue here is has Moeen been retested? have they considered the possibility of a false positive for his test? If he has been retested then it's odds on that we will know for certain one way or the other. If he has retested negative then they should do another test to confirm it. That will be pretty conclusive evidence.

England have struggled for a consistent line-up, but you can't just keep picking failing players. Australia's late 90s/early 00s, WI 80s teams, generally 9-10 players were absolute locks. Hope Crawley & Sibley can kick on and make that place theirs, it's been far too long since Cook & Strauss.

Best opening bat we have who can play spin is Keaton Jennings. Of course I wouldn't have him anywhere near the team at home or in Aus, NZ, SA etc where the quick's move it laterally. However in terms of dealing with a spinning ball, he is comfortably the best we have at the top of the order.

Sub continent: Sibley, Jennings, Crawley, Root
Everywhere else: Sibley, Burns, Crawley, Root

At his best Tavare had a simple basis for success. 1) Play straight, 2) Play only 3-4 shots comfortable playing (low to no risk!!) and 3) Ignore everything outside off stump! Incredibly dull but incredibly effective. Bowlers would be driven spare by his batting and as Lillee put it after his Old Trafford innings in '81 'absolutely knackered'!

Whilst Sri Lanka have just been hammered in SA, test teams are a different proposition at home.
England should win, but they'll have to cut out the slow starts they're becoming known for in test series.
If Sri Lanka get their noses in front, they'll be a difficult proposition.
Application, concentration, and a good start required on day 1. Then work from there.

100% - best #3 we've had for a while IMO and stops Root playing there (he clearly doesn't like that position). It's been a gap for a while so it's pleasing to see Crawley emerge - I would not have picked him in the first place and I am glad I was proven wrong.

Teenage keyboard warriors don't get ironic humour (amongst many other things). Well done Dadpad! My upvote too.
Plenty of controversy with the ECB being sued by former umpires and this article gets the HYS... interesting decision... Removed

Think plenty of Cricketing Bosses of several may be clicking silently on this.

Gets me they both Top Umpires and made it to the Top as well.

Today's society.
Funny thing that. An Australian obsessed with racism.

Any thoughts on why the aboriginal cricketers were ignored for so long?

haha Evening dunc.

Will he be playing in this series?
I am stunned and amazed to see his name on the list but am chuffed to rocks.
Give him the gloves and bat him at 7. That is where he does his damage, and a lot of it.

Lovely to read about Crawley's complete lack of ego. For such a young player he seems remarkably level headed and well balanced (both at the crease and in the way he conducts himself).
On another matter - in Mo's absence will Amar Virdi be given a Test debut?

Just no fight in the team, full of egos and overpaid prima doners. Bring in the youth team players, we need energy and commitment that just isn't there.

Would you like salad and hot chilli sauce with that?

Which 'youth' players inclusions are you campaigning for in particular?

To be honest this squad is looking sharp, brilliant bunch of players, fully committed and looking like they could make a point here. The six nations will be interesting.

Would remove broad and stone....

Play Foakes at 7 and wood at 11...

If you are playing Bairstow then would have kept Crawley at three then.

Yes we can all have out thoughts but selectors must be up to something trying to move Ali straight to Galle and recalling Bairstow too.

Obviously the Ali on backfired as the facilities not ready ..

Some planning gone on then.

It is obviously massively frustrating for them," said Crawley. Not as frustrating as going into a lockdown for the 3rd time with cases rising and hospitals reaching capacity. Totally clueless what planet are these people on. Must be great when the only thing you have to worry about is how wel you perform on a cricket pitch and the Sri Lanka team not having to isolate because of some made up rule

Oh Joseph. Allow me to remove that bee from your bonnet. This was an interview relating to cricket. Of course these players are aware of the frustrations of the pandemic. These players will come from families who are going through the same as all the rest of us.
Luckily the talent of these ‘clueless people’ allows all of us stuck at home to watch/listen to some live cricket. I for one, can’t wait

Echo your point, Jason Roy on the player mic during his last BBL match referenced the difficulties back home and was grateful for the opportunity to play especially in front of fans. Cricketers go through a lot a the moment to do the job, admittedly they love for our entertainment.
