What is the point of this lockdown when they're STILL not going the full mile??

> Airports still open
> No mandatory tests for people entering the country
> No mandatory quarantine for people entering the country
> Nurseries, where no social distancing takes place and where the virus can spread between households via non-symptomatic toddlers, still open.

DO IT PROPERLY OR NOT AT ALL. Farcical.

This is where an excellent track and trace system would help. I wonder if such a thing has been considered? Shouldn't cost more than a couple of billion. Needs good leadership, perhaps an ex sportsperson could run it.

They are worried it may possibly be LESS effective, and if that's the case they need to tweak the vaccine which should take a couple of weeks. That's not great but nowhere near as bad as it could be, but not being as bad as it could be and only a small threat doesn't make as good a pannic headline does it??

No flights from South Africa to the UK currently. However, the UK should be asking for a negative covid test within 72hours such as many countries are asking of the UK...

I'm furious with the whole situation. I've just had my holiday cancelled. This is the second time it's happened in the last 10 months. I haven't been away now for a whole year. Disgusting.
This is a joke posting - right! Otherwise, what a selfish arrogant pig you are - it's people like you who are guilty of spreading the virus!!!! Removed

I am still amazed that those people who did a runner from their hotels in Switzerland over Christmas haven’t been named and shamed.

If that had been a group from the Boro on holiday in Tenerife they’d have been all over the papers.

Must be because they were “posh”/rich. The whole thing got buried - maybe MPs or their families involved.
Please get a life. You sound like an inverted snob cum victim. They left early to avoid quarantine back in the UK with the full knowledge and support of their hotels and local government Removed

Sick of hearing about needy people and their holidays. There's a pandemic going on. How thick do you have to be to book a holiday abroad during a pandemic? I hope they lose every penny and that the travel company goes out of business sooner rather than later. My suggestion to them all is if you're desperate to get out take, a drive to Beachy Head, it's a lovely view, and keep going! Removed

To all those fretting about not being able to spend time in their holiday homes (in Spain, Portugal, Wales etc): my family is struggling to keep their only home together thanks to being variously furloughed and long term sick. Thank you everyone who has generously travelled around sharing the virus.
Why did so many Welsh people knowingly sell their houses to second homers in the first place? Never managed to get a straight answer to this. Removed

--

No not nasty. The people moving around the world are spreading it. Just like they brought it to the UK when returning from skying holidays in Feb last year.

It's about time people who continue to make this worse were dealt with.

Why should, for instance, those rescued in the Breckon Beacons get away with making it worse for everyone? Lock them up, put their kids in care

You think taking a 2 year old out in a blizzard up a mountain where you have to be rescued from, breaking all lockdown rules/guideline during a pandemic, is responsible parenting?

If their kid had died who would have been to blame?

If anyone catches covid abd dies as a result of having no choice but to rescue them is that murder?

Should have left them there to make their own way back.

Being British born, but living in Canada, I have to say that Canadians overall find it very amusing, and frankly sad, that one of the biggest frustrations for the British people during Covid has been they either can’t take a vacation, or they’ve been cancelled!

I just love all this ranting and raving. Folks EUROPE is shut. You're not EU members now and non-EU members have NO right of entry until further notice ... especially from a Covid hotspot like the UK.

The borders ARE closed. There is no- non-essential travel to Europe. No citizenship or residency permit AND no negative Covid test certificate .... "you is sent back brother"!

I think he is resentful of people who cause the spread of the virus with little or no care for the effect on the economy, people’s health or even for all the totally unnecessary and easily avoidable deaths. As it looks like this will continue for a while, and we all need a holiday. This is a perfect time for the UK tourist industry to think hard and lower their obscene prices, this includes train travel. I think the UK is a beautiful country, but I always go abroad, simply because I cannot afford to holiday in the UK, trains, hotels, B N B's, restaurants etc are all so flipping expensive!
Oh come on. Usual hypocritical BS. If you wanted to go on holiday in the country you would do it.

And anyway the point at the moment is not holidays it is about contact and distance.

I understand those countries banning travel from the former UK, but it would be a good idea to ban travel from Covid basket-cases like the USA to here. Also, if only we could get away with closing OUR border with England; Scotland managed to nearly eradicate Covid by the summer, only to invite it back through tourists coming and our own holidaymakers returning.

This is NOT a lockdown, this is:

Close airports or enforce testing and quarantining for ALL.
Fines should be £1000+ as we all know the rules by now.
Police/Army checkpoints on all motorways and major roads.
Close fuel forecourts except for key workers.
Close all carparks not near supermarkets and hospitals.
Close all kindergartens (kids are super-spreaders).
