That reads like a humble brag, sorry... really didn't mean it that way, we're just lucky. And who wouldn't want to go and watch a losing football team, eh?!

Most of the D has been poor all year, and Stefanski is often a little too eager to move away from the run but I think we finally have a our HC and even QB.

Everything fell into place when OBJ got injured. He is a cancer. Run heavy offense with the Hunt/Chubb combo works well, and the D is quite good in certain games, but Mayfield cannot be relied upon at critical moments. He just throws it really hard - but that’s not the key to good QB play. He is average at best.

I found Green Bay, by getting Rugby coaching, from a visiting American teacher, who recognised my cheap tee shirt from the market. He soon had us in a line of scrimmage! That was 1973 or 74. I had to wait a long time for anything to happen. All I had was the sport page in the broadsheets, on a Monday.

I found the Packers after watching a few clips of the legendary "Ice Bowl" in 1967, on a black and white TV, when I lived in Brixton. Stuck with them ever since, particularly through the awful years when Channel 4 were showing them getting beaten week after week.
Fancy them strongly this year, Matt LaFleur has married the running and throwing games wonderfully.

Unfortunately the fact that the UK football leagues are not a 'closed shop' unlike American football means greed takes over and the so-called big teams act in their own interest not that of the league. Trying to get into the CL and the money/TV/kudos that delivers means they care not a jot for the competitiveness of the domestic competitions. It would take a pan-European agreement -never happen.

I agree with what you are saying on the competitive structure of the NFL, however the trade-off is that the NFL is a relationship between franchise owners and the league, with locality a distinct second. It might be difficult to see Portsmouth winning the EPL, but it's hard to imagine them leaving Portsmouth, compared with San Diego, Oakland or so nearly Cleveland back in 1996. Pros and cons.

I'm fairly new to the sport but have followed the Jets for the past 5 years. Fingers cross we can rebuild for the next couple of years and get some stability. I'm relieved we didn't end the year 0-16. The first pick dream of a new QB doesn't feel like the end of all of our problems. Darnold might not be everyones number one QB but I just want to protect him better and see what he can do next year.

Special mention to Justin Jefferson. Set a new record for yards by a rookie WR. Fair play to The Vikings for getting the sulking Diggs off the payroll and replacing him with a younger and cheaper player. Shame the rest of the Vikings were so awful this year, it made the division too predictable from an early stage.

Special mention to Diggs also - what a year for him and the Bills. Could win it.

I think the time is irrelevant. Pederson wants a high draft pick so tanked the game. Sudfeld is a joke and Pederson already knew that. You don’t try and win by putting your 3rd string QB into a game only 3 points behind. I assume they are going to draft another QB! How much cap space is taken up already with overrated QBs? Eagles are in a terrible position for next year.

I still remember Byner's fumble back in '87 so last night was more relief that the expected didn't happen. Njoku's feet were clearly in on his TD no call but otherwise Boger let them play.

Really pleased for the Browns, certainly been a long time coming.

As an aside, I feel Washington's story deserves more coverage - I know the NFC East was dire this season but a team led by a coach who's currently battling cancer and a QB who nearly died little over a year ago and who many doubted would ever play again making the playoffs is a great achievement.

Not particularly if you consider the context of the decision. Pederson, being a career backup QB himself, was doing Sudfeld a solid and getting him some reps after promising him at the start of the season he'd be the no.2 QB , both prior to and post the decision to draft Hurts.

Why? The Eagles didn't ask to get flexed to SNF did they? Pederson was always going to play Sudfeld in the fourth irrespective of score. If the events transpire at 1pm no one cares or notices

Sudfeld was promised the backup gig prior to and post Hurts and as a backup QB himself, Pederson was doing him a solid and getting him reps. The competitive balance is nothing to do with the Eagles.
We are going to be in a terrible position for much longer than next year if Howie Roseman has anything to do with it. The man can't draft and we are $70m over the projected cap.

Odd decision by the Eagles to throw in the back up QB with the game still there to be won. Would not have gone down to well in New York. Beginning to think that the Ravens could be the main threat to a repeat Superbowl for the Chiefs
51
04/01/2021 11:52:41 1 1

Not particularly if you consider the context of the decision. Pederson, being a career backup QB himself, was doing Sudfeld a solid and getting him some reps after promising him at the start of the season he'd be the no.2 QB , both prior to and post the decision to draft Hurts.
Personally think the Titans will be frisky but so long as it's Chiefs Bills for the AFC, as a neutral I'm happy.

@bill_belichick_ate_my_hamster I agree. I love the fact that teams can rise or fall based on their own merits and any team, if reasonably well run, can habour realistic hopes winning the Super Bowl at some point in the future. Meanwhile as a Portsmouth fan (or a fan of any football club apart from a select few) there is no way I can realistically habour hopes of ever winning the Premier League

I understand the historical reasons behind the conference/division structure, but it can hardly be fair when a 10-6 team misses out on playoffs and a 7-9 team wins the division! Yes, I am a Dolphins fan, and a touch bitter today.

Sympathise, Dolphins fan too, but thinking about it when you don't play the same teams it's hard to balance it in a way that's fair to all. The 7-9 may have played harder games, or the 10-6 team has played easier teams e.g. Jets & Jags won 3 games between them all season in the AFC. Gutted to not be in the playoffs but given recent years I'm happy with this season and hopefully can build on it.

I have been a Raiders devotee since Jim Plunkett took over as QB in game against Pittsburgh in 1980. Raiders became first wild card team to win Superbowl that season and Plunkett was match MVP. Gruden has lost my support, his team does not look fit enough and Carr, though good enough, needs far more help as defence resembles a sieve. All the playoff teams have glaring weaknesses, interesting now.

My second city ( I won't say team, as I just look out for results, have never had the first clue about how the game is played), and if the Seahawks don't win it, hope DC does.

Will the bbc be sending Mark Chapman to SB55 to have a laugh with JBell and Osi or will Dan W. get the gig? Oh the dilemma!

If it’s on a Sunday, which it always is, Dan won’t be able to go. Small mercies.

In the division nobody wanted to win.

NYG had just done Dallas (who cares?)

A win @ The Beagles to confirm the title...and i've just ran out of coffee

BONKERS MATCH!

It's 04.20
Time for bed

I need to watch it again just to make sure I didn't dream it...

Go WFT!

As a Bills fan, I must say: Browns fans I know that feeling... the pain of the drought followed by the ecstasy of finally making it!
The thing is we both seem to have found a formula for lasting success, here’s to years ahead where bills v browns and Allen v Baker can be the new colts v pats and manning v Brady

Not that Big Ben was firing on all cylinders anyway, resting him backfired. Tomlin may regret that for the rest of his career.

So I went to a friends house to watch American football, two things:
1. Why is it called football, do they even kick it at all?
2. Why does a 3hour game have only 20 mins of actual action?
