Talks are continuing in Brussels, with less than 10 days to go until the UK leaves EU trading rules.
I see Tesco are already rationing toilet rolls. Why when the Daily Mail is available every morning?

It's OK, print off remain HYS comments; easily the most absorbent.
I find the Guardian gives more coverage
Ha ha. Guardian too, for those brave enough to admit reading it.
Obviously a guardian reader - the mail has the biggest circulation by far so what are you saying about a huge readership ?
Not enough people read the Guardian, that's why they have to ration it.
You can't ration Covaidiots!
You tried using the Mail? Your posterior will end up dirtier than before!
Asda bog rolls are cheaper than the mail .
At least you don't have to pay for the crap the Daily Mail prints through a TV tax
I would use the guardian for loo roll but they hardly sell any rags these days so rarer than hens teeth.
The Grauniad is far more absorbing and much kinder to ar5* holes.
And protect their country, like Brexiteers believed we couldn't do. Funny old world, eh?
France shutting the border with the UK when this strain of the virus has been found in Belgium, Netherlands, Italy... those borders are still open. When did lorry drivers travelling alone with onboard facilities become high-risk superspreaders... disgraceful behaviour Macron.

But didn't we vote for this? I thought we wanted to have nothing to do with Europe so we can have sovereignty and prosper?
If he maintains this stance we will reroute away from Calais. Plenty more ports to sail to. Bilbao, Rotterdam for example. Lots of Polish and Spanish drivers stranded. They have to drive all the way through France to get to their home. Bugger Calais. It will suffer more than Dover. A business who sells to the UK is not going to stop because Macron is having a hissy fit.
Er it appears to have arisen and spread rapidly in Kent.
If I was Macron, I would do the same.
Best to utilize the Precautionary Principle.
We know very little about the new mutation, right now.

We may as well go no deal WTO now.
France has demonstrated that whatever the agreement they can shut the border at will, so what's the point of an agreement.

france let people come in from all those countries, and have shut the door on us ,i wonder why ? they are just worried about the fishing ,its the last little bit of sabre rattling they have left
Spot on.
Try to think a second time as writing as you first think doesn't work.
Think what would have happened if the boot was on the other foot and France had a greater incidence of the new COVID variant. Who the UK press be pleading with Boris to allow all the French people travel into the UK unhindered?.
The UK incidence of the new variant is growing far greater than what is being found overseas.

Macron? The Dutch have stopped Britions travelling into Holland. So have other countries in the EU. Not by EU shout either. You certainly think last. Are you from Essex?
How about the UK give Spain Gibraltar".........they voted to stay in the EU
Is this evidence that EU member states already have the right to shut their borders - i.e. "sovrinty"? I also see that the EC is urging member states to lift the UK travel ban! I think this illustrates how vital simple cross-border trading is in this day and age - but some xenophobes may think otherwise.
Ah yes, but in the words of our very own Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, this new variant is 'out of control'. His very own words. Whilst one appreciates this rare glimpse of honesty it's hardly reassuring for our European neighbours. This is a government truly gifted in talent.
France is sovereign too. Btw so is Canada, Israel, India etc
So lorry drivers aren’t like the rest of the human species, needing to eat, wash, go to the toilet, etc?
The only disgraceful behaviour on here is by the likes of you.
Intent on blaming everyone else for the mess that people like yourself have voted for and continue to support despite the facts telling you otherwise.
I guess you also still believe Trump won the US election...

Exactly. It was all political and about Brexit but he soon learned that France will be the ones to suffer.
Remainer’s friends, the French. Says all you need to know...,
How dare they take back control of their borders !
didn't we shut borders with Denmark for a while because of the mink mutation?
Doing exactly what a responsible government does. As a Brexit voter you wouldn't understand that.

We buy twice as much from EU as we sell to them so WTO rules are fine as it means the Treasury receives twice as much in tariffs from EU companies as we pay. It should also be feasible for the UK govt to distribute this windfall to UK citizens.
I've never seen any business ever treat its biggest customer in the way EU bureaucracy treats the UK. But then the EU was founded by fascist businessmen! Removed

Are you seriously so out of touch with basic economics or is this a joke? UK consumers pay the tariffs for imports meaning UK consumers have less spending power.
Anyone who wants to believe Boris' BS about WTO rules being more than satisfactory, read this Boris quote from 2013:
"As a general tactic in life, it is often useful to give the slight impression that you are deliberately pretending not to know what's going on - because the reality may be that you don't know what's going on, but people won't be able to tell the difference."

We are run by a lying moron surrounded by a cabinet of sycophants. Saying that only 20% of food comes via Dover may well be the truth but it leaves out the obvious purely to make sure that imbeciles will continue to support him. If this was a Labour government in charge the Tories would have started a coup d'état. Look it up if you're unsure of the French!

Johnson is an agent of the extreme right wing - JUST LIKE HITLER - with the same ideals. Johnson uses 'sovereignty' in the same way Hitler used 'lebensraum' - both are a lie to deceive the proletariat. Both are as evils as each other.

I know it's 'off topic' but that hasn't stopped many undemocratic bad-losers mentioning it:
The reason that the new strain of Covid-19 has only been found in the UK is because we have the best DNA research facitities in Europe
The EU is now only finding it over there because we told them how to look for it!
Closing the borders is just a political stunt Removed

Correct. Its source was provably Denmark, which culled 17m mink where 83% were infected where transferring it mutated virus deleting H69-V70 spike. 12 Danish farmworkers contracted mutated version. Of course Denmark, France, Germany only test COVID not for mutations . The UK blamed for isolating it when it came to us not from us. EU using it for illegal leverage in Brexit talks.
If you genuinely believe that, then I think you should probably take a look at your life and start making a few changes. Wow. Do you actually know what the definition of a cult is?

Sorry to disappoint but Johnson has made it very clear that we need MORE immigration: now we're making it more difficult for oue European cousins (with whom we share broad ideologies and cultures) it will be from Asia and Africa (and not the best bits). This subject is just so typical of myths which drove a wrong headed vote. Brexit support is now down to 25%.
Without the million migrants you refer to vegetables would be left in the ground to rot, NHS would cease to exist, care homes will not exist, the list is endless.

This is a Brexit thread.....Isn’t it?
I see the BBC reported that the Belgians feel they have a right to fish in our waters because that goes back centuries. So does the slave trade, French European imperialism and smallpox. Does Brussels really want all those back too on grounds that “they’re traditional”?
Its time for the UK to walk away from the talks! ANY PRODUCTS WE IMPORT FROM THE EU get them from elsewhere! Any products we export should be finding new markets for immediately!!
Time to look forwards, not forever harking backwards in a petulant attempt to prove yourself right. This has been the issue with a lot of the remoaners, unable to accept others opinions and votes.
If there’s a no deal Brexit, fine. No skin off my nose.
But I’ll be tempted to never donate to any food bank or charity operating in an area that voted leave, as I feel they should be given a chance to seize the opportunities of Brexit. And they can start doing that by feeding themselves and paying tariffs on half their food.

Those protest voters aren’t getting a penny.
I’d much rather support those communities that voted for the stability and shared prosperity of their families, friends, fellow countrymen and neighbouring countries to ensure they aren’t made to suffer.
Nothing wrong with that. If Brexiteers feel so strongly about their cause of pushing for no deal, I feel the same about this. It’s about principles.

True but they had their vote and voted to stay.
More than happy for the sweaties to go as long as they take 1/3 of the debt and get the Euro.
Likely ? I don't think so.

Yawn, the future relationship is being reached with far too little notice
The transition period should have been from the point of the new relationship being agreed, not to use for negotiation so people and businesses can genuinely 'Get ready for Brexit'
It's ludicrous to give people and businesses a few days notice

Covid has particularly similarly profile to Brexit.
Those that were most likely to vote Leave ... are the most likely to have died.
Covid will eventually be stopped.
As will the UK's non participation in the EU.
We will rejoin ... just in a much diminished capacity,
Silly, selfish, indulgent, whimsical, fantasist Brexiters ...
Smoking gun in hand, looking down at hole in foot.

Well, good point. I hate the EU.
Why ?? Because we want to take back control and be a sovereign nation ? if people hate us for that then who really cares !!

Why? Because the lot of them will sell your details on to 3'rd parties. Knowingly or not. Easy to find out. Just log on to your banking app and see what adds pop up.

The EU are trying to make sure no country even dares to try to leave them! The UK did not sign up to the EU. We signed up to the Common Market years back, worked well for all involved, but France and Germany were not happy with the lack of their control so the EEC was evolved , then the EU..basically the United Country`s of Europe but they never produce audited accounts. They just want our Money!

UK standards are just as good as the EU's. What ridiculous scenarios you suggest Cars from Pakistan? Are you for real?
#Richard.."Look how organised Dover is"...The border closure has lasted less than 48 hours so all we've seen is how Dover copes with a minor interruption to traffic flow.
If the UK doesn't agree to a deal the disruption will be permanent & the UK will really find out what a no deal WTO exit means.
The Dover/Calais connection is essential for trade, that Raab bloke didn't even know this.

With regard to the new variant, don't forget our brilliant scientists identified it, but doesn't mean it generated here - could just have easily come across the channel, particularly as it was 'found' in Kent and not, say, Cumbria or Cornwall. I strongly suspect that it will be 'identified' all across Europe in the not too distant future.
