Firstly, congrats to Max. No mistakes and an easy race for him.

However, as a F1 fan of 3 decades, boy that was boring. I fear that the non-event that was today will be overshadowed with it being the final race of the season.

This season gave us look at new tracks that could replace the likes of this one, but we all know money talks, as it does in most sports.

F1 peaked around 2005-2010

Since then it's been a procession with of Red Bull/Vettel dominance followed by Mercedes/Hamilton

Atm you can only win the title if you drive a Mercedes and they only have 1 good driver

If LH wants to be considered the GOAT he should allow Mercedes to appoint a better teammate than VB

But he won't cos he just wants easy wins. No matter how much it's killing the sport

I've stopped watching F1. Followed it since 60's, first live GP France 82 (Arnoux ignored instruction to let Prost win home GP in a Renault!). Decision has to be over is F1 a) the pinnacle of automotive tech, or b) entertainment based on basic and cheap race cars, with little or no aerodynamic aides. Petrol based F1 on borrowed time, time to put thinking caps on.

Hypocritical comments like this that stand out the most. looking past the excuse, if it were Lewis dominating, everyone on HYS would be up voting the congratulatory message like crazy, and yet when Max wins, everyone else decides to call it boring because he hasn't won it.

Formula 1 has always been boring, even more so when Lewis wins all the time, now you all get another dose of reality.

The right thing for Lewis (and any dedicated sportsperson) is to compete, no matter how you're feeling, as long as you don't put anyone else at risk, obviously. George is young and extremely talented, he will get plenty more chances - his time is coming.

You don’t become a seven time world champion if you don’t have a desperation and drive to compete no matter how you feel. Do you think Max would have stepped aside to give his drive to another driver? No he wouldn’t. His job is to drive for Mercedes and that’s what he did, George got a great opportunity last week and will do so again in the future, maybe 2022.

He realised last weekend how much support there is for George and he risked George doing well again so he clearly chose to drive regardless of his condition. Unfortunately, no matter Hamilton does, he'll never go up in your estimation.
I think Hamilton learnt his lesson from the 2015/16 season. Hamilton won the 2015 title early, and took his foot off the gas at the end of that season, which allowed Rosberg to get momentum into 2016. Hamilton knows how you finish one season, affects how you start the next; hence he pushed himself to drive today.

It would have been great to see George given another shot, and may well have done better than a tired, recovering Lewis, but if there was any chance of being able to complete the race Lewis was always going to take it, as you probably would have done in his place, and if you wouldn't have, then you don't have the mindset of a 7x WDC.

The races and the tracks are not the problem, its the corrupt Ferrari in bed with the FIA ensuring we had cars designed the way Ferrari wanted so they could have an unfair advantage and end Merc dominance. The plan has catastrophically failed and poorly designed cars that can't follow each other for overtaking is the result.

What a shame it was the most boring race of the season to end on!

But at least Ricciardo on the last lap got fastest lap to give some interest in the race at the end.

And who knows if the biggest interest in the race could be in the stewards room regarding Sainz. So constructors championship may still not to be final.

Pirelli produce what they are told to produce -- one of a raft of artificial measures that have been introduced to try to add some excitement to the racing. Unfortunately extra pitstops mean extra overtaking, which F1 can hardly provide at the best of times, so the teams choose to eek out tyres instead. I'm sure Pirelli could provide tyres that could last an entire weekend were they asked to.

You should pay more attention to F1 or not comment. The tyres are made by the tyre company with the contract who make them according to the desires of those who run F1. A possible solution to this would be to scrap running the Q2 tyre at the start and must run 2 compounds. Bring back the days of Senna on the one lap special sticky tyre.

I preferred it when the tyres held on 100% until they gave up and dropped off a cliff. Exactly when that happened was unclear so there was an element of risk in pitting early enough to avoid the drop but not so early that you left too much on the tyre.

F1 wanted something that was more predictable though

Bridgestone tyres that lasted forever were boring to watch too, and only created a fun race that 1 time when they seemed to mess up and they wore out way faster causing lots of pitstops and everyone loved it.

People were so buzzed that Pirelli were going to make tyres that behaved like that, as per F1s orders, and the teams found a way to manage them and make them boring to watch still.

Lewis not at 100% and obviously still feeling the effects from last week, however with things already in the bag, Mercedes have been developing their car for next year, so already have a head start on everyone else.
The FIA need to review some of the circuits, this being one of them, as the only way of overtaking was under DRS.

A dreadful race. Awful (F1 fan, before you start)

There is only one reason that track remains on the calendar and that’s money. Any other place and it would have been taken off years ago.

I think it 'peaked' around the late 80's, in 89 when Ferrari started going down the electrical automatic route with the gearboxes, others followed and added suspension and telemetry pit to car, car to pit etc and slowly took the driver input away. Hate the way the driver has to ask the team how to drive the car now...or how fast can he go or can he have more power.

What should be asked is why Max turned down the chance to compete? He was asked and LH didn't care. Seems MV didn't fancy actually putting his money where his mouth was.

Why do people conveniently forget the Ferrari dominance and team orders re Schumacher? Is it an inconvenience truth I wonder?

Even if Lewis had a say over who was the other driver in the Mercedes why wouldn't he or anybody in his position work the system if they can to their own best advantage. Every one of you, his critics would do exactly this if you ever got anywhere near a Mercedes F1 seat.

No chance ever being anyway near being considered THE GOAT unless proving himself WITHOUT huge Mercedes-Benz assist. Others have done it.

Depressingly uninteresting event today. Mercedes-Benz did not turn up. Clearly turned down so today not IT'S THE best car. Very sad to see.

That is a bit simplistic, we have seen through history that 2 strong drivers at a team rarely works well (with the odd exception like Prost/Lauda at Ferrari). Le Clerc/Better has been a disaster this season, not that the car has helped. The best combination is a top driver & a decent back up, team player like Vettel had at Red Bull.

What we need is the other Teams to up their games, especially Ferrari who have the Money. For a Historic team like Ferrari to have had a season like this, is a bit of a shock me. They need to sort themselves out. Formula 1 with one team dominating , even with 2 strong drivers is still going to have it's problems. It's good that we even had a season in the end, in the time Covid-19.

Says who?? Firstly Hamilton has had 3 world champions as teammates and secondly every one of his teammates has always been given the same opportunity at the start of every season - unlike a certain German at Ferrari. And when Rosberg walked out Hamilton stated he would go up against whoever. Merc chose Bottas. Stop making BS assumptions.

He's had and beaten Alonso, Button and Rosberg - three word champions as team mates. Alonso was a 2x WDC when Hamilton was just a rookie. That's more than any other driver has done. Mercedes needed a driver at short notice when Nico cut and ran, which is why Bottas is there.

Well done Verstappen on a deserved win. The safety car again played a significant role in the race strategy and made for a very boring race. If Hamilton had won it would have been regarded as a truly epic victory. Sadly F1 is losing its mojo in more ways than one.

No one told George Russel that last week, but the cars were back to normal this week??

Some circuits are worse than others, as you saw last week, throughout the field there was generally more overtaking. Yes Marina is notoriously bad

Lewis not at 100% and obviously still feeling the effects from last week, however with things already in the bag, Mercedes have been developing their car for next year, so already have a head start on everyone else.
The FIA need to review some of the circuits, this being one of them, as the only way of overtaking was under DRS.

"Mercedes have been developing their car for next year, so already have a head start on everyone else".

Of course, they don't already have an advantage simply because ALL other teams have been developing their cars for next year as well. Do you seriously think that Mercedes are the only team doing this?

Mercedes started the development of next years car way before the other teams, It was the same last year that’s why they had virtually won both championships with two thirds of the season gone and at that point they put more resources into the following year’s car rather than continuing on the current one. It’s a rolling process.

His point was Mercedes stopped developing this car a long time back and gave 100% into next year’s car, have you ever wondered why RB seem so much closer at the end of each season, they have still been developing this car long after Mercedes moved on.
Your F1 knowledge is pretty poor.

Actually Mercedes where that far ahead they started developing next years car months ago while the other teams have continued to work on this seasons car.

my opinion is that LH should have stood down to give Russell a fair crack of the whip after the disaster of last weekend. I have a feeling that it would have been a maiden win for him. The only problem with doing that is he isn’t contracted to Mercedes next year yet and if he allowed GR to shine...... to me it seemed a bit selfish to turn up knowing he wasn’t 100% and then underperform.

We get loads of 'F1 is boring' even when it isn't. This was so boring I put up the Xmas tree. It's a pity GR didn't drive 44, that might have made it more interesting as LH wasn't on the money.

I think people need to take into account Mercedes stopped working on the current car months ago to work on next season's car while everyone including Red Bull have still been working on the current car,

And if people like it or not the fact is Hamilton is still recovering from Covid.

in answer to Jenni How’s question. Yes they had lots of money and they gave it to Herman Tilke who has been on that jobs for the boys deal to design boring processional and uninspired circuits that make overtaking difficult, the only real difference between them is the geographical backdrop and cosmetics.
