Royston, to use the term "mask-fanatic" is a ridiculous insult. It is selfish, foolish and dangerous to not follow the science - wearing masks does absolutely save lives and helps reduce the spread of the virus. I guess you're a fan of Pres. Trump.

Shock, horror the virus spreads! It will spread, that is what it evolved to do. Even in Germany with a track and trace we are told is faultless, deaths are at UK level, they just don't report it the same way. France, Belgium, Italy, Spain are also at similar levels of cases and deaths. It is NOT careless people's fault. A virus will do this no matter what.

Whilst I accept the logic in the not moving tiers for public health reasons, if London is not moved into Tier 3 this week and Greater Manchester and other areas with big drops in cases remain in Tier 3 then it is a farce. They have already sacrificed hospitality here to covid so why is London immune from this?
cos exactly that, they are largely immune. Its been through there already. Removed
That makes no sense as to why they’re increasing now
They’ll maybe swap tiers, we’ll all be locked down again by Feb
London’s hospitality in tier 3 loses 7 days, Manchester’s has been in tier two since July 30th, tier 3 since what feels like forever

Common sense tells us there will be an increase in cases following a period of more freedom. As people and virus mingle.

The size depends on how rigidly people adhere to best practice or staying within the rules.

Common sense also tells us without an easing of the rules over Christmas, many people would have ignored the rules, citing their common sense to be better than scientific analysis, oh!!

What can I do to keep myself free of covid?
How do I make sure I do not spread covid?

The sad thing is we all know the answer is not to have a big family gathering at Christmas. So perhaps the real question is...How much do we value the lives of our family members? And in particular the older members.

The media were on a win-win with this one, and they knew it, if the government had kept the restrictions tighter over the holidays the headlines would have been “ Tories have cancelled Christmas”. Now, the with obvious conclusion that loosening the restrictions will create more issues in the new year, the media can role out the “experts” criticising the government for not cancelling Christmas.
Indeed. The River Class boats patrol our waters controlling fishing on behalf of the EU, we didn’t suddenly build them to spite France. Boris and Ursula signed an agreement last week that nothing will change for 12 months regarding access to fish. The River Class boats will do the same job, applying the same rules, to the same fishing boats. But the media want to call it gunboat diplomacy. Removed

I have to disagree. By bowing to their right wing media backers and easing restrictions over Christmas all that is achieved is people believing even more that the restrictions are not really necessary.

To succeed you have to stick to the restrictions. Since lockdown 2 has been lifted the daily case numbers have stopped falling and deaths has stalled and are likely to rise again.

This is failure.

Judging by some comments on here

Some people don't have the ability or skills to understand certain things

But feel emboldened enough to come on here in the delusion that they do

So 80,000 plus deaths

Covid spread person to person

Face mask very good at stopping the wearer's spreading virus

Lockdowns work if adhere to

If the NHS becomes overwhelmed death rate will increase MASSIVELY

People are doing whatever they want in my Tier3 area. Some have travelled out of the area into level2 to go Christmas shopping. Others don't wear masks. On trains I've seen posts in a Facebook group that travellers are not putting masks on. This is just in my location. Multiple it around the country then you can see why infection rates increase.

Now, the with obvious conclusion that loosening the restrictions will create more issues in the new year, the media can role out the “experts” criticising the government for not cancelling Christmas.

To succeed you have to stick to the restrictions. Since lockdown 2 has been lifted the daily case numbers have stopped falling and deaths has stalled and are likely to rise again.

The restrictions really are not necessary. Nobody has covid. The daily figures are a result of false positives generated in labs that aren't following biosecurity protocols. This is wrong young "healthy" people have died from this and countless others suffering with long covid which you dont get from a cold or flu. Vaccinating the elderly will not get things back to normal when the majority of working age population in the country have not been vaccinated, restrictions in workplaces pubs, shops etc will have to remain in place until more is known about long covid
Wrong. Proper flu can cause long term complications such as auto immune disorders such as RA and heart problems. But because the media has never made an issue of it before you haven't heard of it. It is sometimes termed as long term viral fatigue but for scaremongering fear porn reasons they decided to call this one long covid. Removed

I hope you and your family continue safe and have a lovely festive period, but some of us have different health issues / vulnerabilities. It's not about what the government say. Has anybody even considered the guilt children will suffer for their whole lifetime when they realise they played a role in killing their grandparents over a shared Xmas dinner? How's that gonna be for their mental health?

2040: Dad, Is it true you got loads of Christmas presents when you were a kid?

Well son, Yes, I got loads, but in 2020, as I knew everything, I ignored common sense and gave a virus to your Grandparents and my Aunts and Uncles. Sadly it killed them all.

I work at a school and haven't washed my hands once since starting ack at the end of August, neither do other staff members there isn't time in the day.. There are 1200 students and there have only been 2 confirmed cases. The whole thing is blown way out of proportion.
What do you do? Clean toilets? What a knob. Removed

Also don't have any of the Covid vaccines.

I think the virus is fake news. I have planes and trains booked and looking forward to catching up with people I haven't seen in a while without having to answer to mask fanatics. Bring on 22-27 Dec!

Got a really good idea that will please quite few unfortunately....

....let’s all hide for the rest of our lives shall we.

I’m sure the face masking zombie massive will approve. After all, they are now being spotted wearing a face muzzle whilst walking their dogs in clean fresh air on fields now as well as their own cars looking like idiots.

I dread to think what the future holds.
