No crowds from Wednesday, a return of old friends and a belated debut - what can we expect from the 2021 PDC World Darts Championship?

It would be good if Gerwyn Price ended up playing Gary Anderson at some point - my money would be on Price 'blowing' him away.
who cares
Sadly the BDO was always poorly run and once the BBC dropped coverage of the Lakeside World Championship it went downhill. The PDC has always had the funding from Sky which other broadcasters could not match. Many PDC players did their apprenticeship with the BDO and good luck to them for the world championship.

Trolls like you for trying to spoil a thread
Me
Presumably you do. If you're not interested in darts don't bother reading articles and commenting on it.

James Wade is a great each way bet this year at 33/1 or bigger.
Glen Durrant has been dire since he got covid & Gary Anderson & MVG have also both had injuries & illness.
But please also salute The Bronzed Adonis Steve Beaton in his record breaking 30th Worlds, one of the true greats.
Also look out forThe Singapore Slinger Paul Kim another living legend.
Now it is officially Christmas

Have always liked Wade and when he broke through I thought he would be the next big thing. But he doesn't have the scoring power over the longer formats. He is 33/1 for good reason. Gerwen or MVG for the win and a decent showing from Aspinall and Van den Bergh

Darts isn’t the same without the fans. More than any other sport
There was no need to ban the fans from darts. With Covid secure environments this would mitigate any spread of any respiratory virus. It's a shame for the World's the government choose to employ Draconian legislation based on a theoretical risk. Hopefully the tournament will be a success and without the fans. The government are killjoys and shame on them.

It's not just the venue that causes problems. Most of the 1000 fans due to attend each session will have travelled there on buses or trains. Same for people attending football matches and still being allowed to shop in London. They don't arrived in Oxford Street by magic.
It’s a shame what happened to BDO, some great players came through this organisation players like Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Jockey Wilson, Leighton Rees just to name a few unfortanetly they did not move with the times.
A sad day for darts.
A sad day for darts.
The BDO was run by amateurs with no sports business sense and what happened was a long time coming. It died a slow death. Had the BDO joined up with the PDC the sport could have been organised from local darts to county superleague darts to pro darts. Two associations for the same sport was never going to last.
Anyone but Anderson or Wright.
Anyone but any of the English players.

Oi we love davie moyes in east london and christian daley youre the love of my life oh christan daley u can have my wife
Sad how little attention the BBC have always paid to the actual best women's darts player by a long way.
Also Sherrock wasn't a 'history-maker', Anastasia beat VDV on TV over a decade ago.
Obviously though the media and large amounts of people weren't obsessed with trying to create a 'trailblazer' or 'history-maker', Anastasia was just a darts player just like everyone else back then.

The BBC decided to try and be PC on their sports site and tv shows after pressure from many parties. They waded in without balance. The sports women have always been just as important to me as the men. But the BBC, have recently flooded it with too many ladies with little or no knowledge of the sports they have been assigned to.

Dita Hedman is a fine ambassador for darts, women and along with that, she doesn't talk nonsense when commentating or summarising. Unlike many of the men. Wayne Mardle is a prime example of bad both.

Why? Football in the UK has numerous associations governing it

It's going to be a bit weird seeing them playing darts in an empty Ally Pally. A bit like two pimples in an aircraft hangar. And presumably dear old Russ Bray will still be bellowing out the scores into the vast emptiness. Nonetheless I am sure that Sky will do a great job in presenting it, as they always do.

Massive PR Faux Pas, not inviting Fallon Sherrock in. Making her go through the qualifiers after last year's performance is a joke.
With no fans it'll be all very dull, frankly.

Places are based on order of merit and not PR, which is entirely the correct way to do things.
And yet here you are.

I think there is massive interest in darts as the bank balance of the top players shows. Sherrock would not have got passed the first round had it not been for the brain dead goons in the crowd booing her opponents every throw. If women are indeed equal and get there on merit, then they should qualify through the open qualifiers instead of having women only places on offer.
She isn't the answer, plastic fans are the worst type of fans a sport can have and that's mostly all she'd bring in.
She averaged low 90's + her opponents missed countless doubles in both her wins, anyone who called that amazing should never cry about equality or sexism again as that is bang average by PDC standards and clearly shows it was actually them seeing her as inferior to everyone else.

She's a very good player and has had a ton average before. A couple of years ago the women averaged more than the blokes at Bridlington. The PDC would be better off having a women's title.

Labanauskas averaged 99 and lost at Lakeside once, that doesn't prove the standard there was that level consistently.
I agree the PDC should start a women's tour though, with no BDO they're in a different place to 2010 when they held their 1 and only women's WC that was well...woeful.
