Oxford Covid vaccine 'safe and effective' study shows

The peer-reviewed work in the Lancet medical journal confirms the vaccine is 'safe and protects'.
Cynics, anti-vaxxers, smug, woke know-it-all wannabe Ian Hislops - for once, please, give the snide negative comments a rest. It's been a terrible year: let's take heart from this good news. Removed

Agree mostly, this is very good news - we should have our lives back before too longer, after much worthwhile sacrifice.

Ian Hislop is on a satirical news programme in his defence, and not sure what 'woke ' has to do at all in this context. Just a trendy word to drop I guess.

Well said - mostly. Ian Hislop is a satirist and has not, AFAIK, said anything against vaccines. Woke has nothing to do with it and it depends on how you define "woke". It can either be used as a derogatory slur on people who have more liberal views than yourself or, as I like to use it, someone who is socially aware, altruistic and prepared to help their fellow man without a profit motive.

RNA type vaccinations are a man made virus that invades our own cells and manipulates them to go on to make the actual vaccine. Essentially our own bodies become the manufacturer. This type of vaccine has never been used before outside of trials let alone on millions of people so it is valid for some to have concerns. History has many drugs that were once thought safe proven otherwise over time.

What does being woke or a liberal have to do about this story. As a lefty I am very happy with this news and this is the vaccine I prefer the sound of because it can be used globally (good luck getting a freezer up and running in parts of rural Africa). You have a point about anti Vax though

Great news, they can go to work now and pay the tax needed to keep the NHS running?

Money they already paid in their working life was spent by Labour on benefits sadly.

Keeping patients in hospital is expensive (hundreds of pounds a day for basic care - much more for intense emergency treatment), and delays other patients from getting treated. Since older patients are more likely to end up in hospital because of Covid, it is indeed a great use of the vaccine.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine was the only vaccine that regularly checked non symptomatic patients for Covid. It was shown that the vaccine lowered the rates of asymptomatic infection, hence reducing transmission. In the Phase 3 trials other vaccines only tested if the volunteer had symptom, meaning they would miss any asymptomatic patient. This could explain the so called lower effective rates.

So what is the difference between these vaccines and bleach?

Gov have granted immunity for vaccines since 1979.
And you should be pleased since the Vaccine Damages Payment scheme allows for 'no-fault' claims. If you have to sue the manufacturer, civil law requires you prove negligence, not just that the vaccine cause your harm. That's impossible if the manufacturer has approval from the independent regulator

The BBC removed my comment stating that Bill gates invested tens of millions into AstraZenica before the pandemic broke (FACT) & that he privately funds the BBC through his foundation (FACT) & asked whether the BBC should need to declare a conflict of interest before promoting information put out by big pharma.
This broke no terms & is nefarious censorship by the BBC of which I am often a victim.
