That's like saying to a victim of domestic abuse, "you're not forced to stay in that relationship."

But they are often being manipulated by their partner and this is essentially what is happening with gambling addiction.

Gambling firms know well how addictive it is for some people and they make millions cynically exploiting this. They also do everything they can to avoid paying if someone is lucky enough to get a substantially large win.

By saying "Please" you're being invited to do so.

People should be forced to spell correctly.

Gambling addiction is a serious condition, it is a well-known phenomenon going back centuries. Much work has been done on this by psychiatrists but that is probably beyond your simplistic view of the world.

Sorry to break it to you, but that's how addiction starts; when you start defend something against any and all criticism, however fair, you've started to 'love it' too much. Sensible rules don't spoil anyone's fun: they only start to get in the way of the 'fun' when it's already gone beyond what is actually fun.

Only addicts feel the need to aggressively defend their behaviour.

This ban is right. Modern day youths behave in a disgraceful manner, have no respect, and are selfish (the way they have spread Corona virus is an example of this). To let these types freely gamble was a disaster waiting to happen.

When you have seen at first hand the damage that gambling addition can do, restrictions on advertising and promotion cannot come soon enough. From my personal point of view it should be treated like tobacco and kept out of sight.
have you seen the damage cars do, marriage does (and you can do that at 16)...if you stupid enough not to be able control your habits then your own problem. As usual the do gooders and interfeerers like to impose their will on others Removed

The definition of an idiot is doing the same thing repeatedly expecting a different result. In your case the issue is compounded by the fact that we already know the outcome and it WILL NEVER CHANGE. Removed

Immediately.
No ifs and buts, and let's reform things.
Just ban all gambling whether the gambler is 6 or 126.

There are calls to ban all forms of gambling but that would just drive it underground where there would be no regulation and no safeguards. Also, we would all need to pay more taxes to cover the loss of exchequer revenue. If gamblers are stupid enough to throw their money away I am happy to pay less tax. Scratch away.
