The UK says it is still working for a deal, but the EU's mood is described as "gloomy".

Lord Frost. Knighted for being utterly useless, even with 4 years to play with. Says it all.

But....but.....but he's a Lord...surely that should be enough.
Except that the EU wouldn't allow us to negotiate the trade deal until we had agreed the withdrawal agreement. Plus we couldn't even get a parliamentary mandate for leaving the EU legislation until November 2019. Before the GE, we had two pro leaving parties (Tory-Labour) filled with rebel proEU MPs. Only after Labour unwisely moved away from backing leaving legislation did parliament get unlocked
Complete tosh.
Lord Frost has been negotiating for just 9 months as initially Teresa May & Labour Party wouldn’t support exit, and then EU wouldn’t negotiate on trade until we left on 31st Jan 2020.
Facts before fiction....

If one is Knighted, one becomes a "Sir". Lord Frost has been enobled.
Most knighthoods are handed out, for that purpose, nowadays.
Like university degrees, life is dumbed down, to make everyone feel good about themselves and their abilities, even if they have none.
Thanks, Tony Blair.

If he had been knighted, he would have been "Sir Frost". You can't even troll accurately!
... if that's your 'says it all', your fellow Remoaner traitors must be really embarrassed with you. Frost only came to the fore after traitor May had totally failed you Remoaners - she tried to fudge the whole thing to achieve BRINO ... and look what happened to her ...
On more than 100 occasions when asked during the election campaign about a Trade Deal the leader of the Conservatives and many of this party said they had 'an oven ready deal'.
They said this any time they were asked about ANY deal whether WA or FTA.
This information is readily available on many election watchdog sites.
There, homework done.
You probably will not agree though.

yes - we can see the tories back peddaling like mad about the things they said previously
You can keep saying that over & over but you know full-well that the implication was that we would have a full trade deal with the EU in record time that would be to our benefit. "the easiest deal in history" that could be sorted "in an afternoon over a cup of tea"
The Tories sold the gullible a lie. An impossible deal to have all the benefits of being in the EU with no downsides
Don't defend it

But Boris broke the oven ready deal with the internal market act which reneges on the WA.
The same WA that Boris is threatening to break, and in the process break international law? Does that sound like oven ready to you Tracey the factless troll?
The WA that he is taking steps towards reneging on? Clearly wasn't oven ready.
Oh yes, the easiest deal in history. And we have a government so corrupt and incompetent that it can't even be bothered to try negotiating.

"Oven ready referred to the WA not the FTA."
If only you knew what those acronyms meant, "Test Tracey".
You're not having THAT one.
The Withdrawal Agreement is the thing the Tories have been trying to blow up. The FTA never existed. This is exactly what Remainers told you a year ago (if you even exist). Since you can't even remember last weeks lies never mind 2016 it must be so hard to keep up

The WA that we're about to pass legislstion to break the terms of?
The "oven ready deal" referred to the deal that would be a simple stroll in the park following the brilliance of the WA. So brilliant it didnt even need parliamentary scrutiny.
The "oven ready deal" referred to the deal that would be a simple stroll in the park following the brilliance of the WA. So brilliant it didnt even need parliamentary scrutiny.
Yes it did refer to the WA. Now within less than a year the government is proposing to break some of the terms in it. Is that what "oven-ready" means?
If the WA was oven ready, why are we set to break it, less than a year from signing?
No. Cleverly made that claim but Boris Johnson used the term Deal more than 10 times in the GE campaign
Cleverly was trying to mislead
Cleverly was trying to mislead
But the use of the word "deal" was deliberate in order to confuse and brain-wash the general public.
no it did not... just stop
They already reneged on the WA because they said it was a terrible deal and we would have to break international law. That doesn't sound "oven ready", that sounds like they didn't even read it before selling it to us.
You only know because Cleverly told you so.
And what happened to the withdrawl agreement? Boris is now trying to rip it up. Hardly oven ready was it if he now needs to go back on his word and change it. Do YOUR homework!
Indeed it was the WA, the one he's now breaking both his word and international law on
The one that Johnson signed, said was a good deal and had all the nodding donkeys agreeing...only to say this year that it was a bad deal and we need to tear it up...nodding donkeys in agreement. It's like you really think people don't remember 2019.
There is a concerted effort today by Tory hq to revise history. You will be Told the oven ready deal meant the farcical vote in January and to deflect blame onto France for the no deal they are hoping to achieve. You will recognise these similar posts from seemingly different accounts.

Exactly. Do you want to try living in Scotland and not having a voice?

You have to sport the biggest seo of blinkers ever not to see Johnson's failings. Whatever your political leaning this man is a disaster. It's the old vote for a donkey scenarios whatever the colour.
That is very offensive for the Hard Brexiteers that are just fighting for the independence and freedom for their beloved Country!
Maybe, but they're not in a position to do nearly so much damage. If the govt don't reach a deal they all deserve to be pushed off the top of the white cliffs of Dover.
Hi FL350.
You say that and yet you are desperate to keep Scotland in the Union despite regularly telling us you are paying for us.
WHY?
Why not just let us go?
You may have failed to notice but a majority of Scots want out.
Not only that but declaring your profession via FL350 makes you a massive you know what.
Goodnight son.

Indeed - nationalists are the same the world over.
My kids - and me - enjoyed the government paying their Uni fees.
Odious? They just promised what one already had. EU membership. Hardly odious. More pleasant really. That is what people voted for in Scotland.
Haha - special agent Boris is a legend !

The SNP have had nothing to do with this debacle, It wasFox that claimed the easiest deal, where is thw 350 million for the NHS that Boris promised, oven ready deal Johnson. How many more lies within this debate do you want do you want? accept responsibility, or was it a big girl that did it an ran away? oh wait maybe that was Theresa!
What's good for the Brexitees isn't what Scotland voted for.
Democracy?

The saddest part of all this is that 80 years on just a few politically ambitious chancers can still rely on harnessing the prejudice of a substantial segment of society through half truths. Nothing learnt, so depressing.

It must be some much fun having a conversation with someone who basically believes anyone who doesn't agree with them is, a moron.

So who is to blame for the UK's £2 TRILLION national debt?
Remainers keep repeating the word lied, is meaningless, we all now know remainers were as guilty of lying and in some cases went to extream to lie Andrew Neil proved that behond doubt including video evidence, what was even more telling was the mouthpiece for the EU - BBC took Andrew Neil off air and then gave us a podcast run by 4 avid remainers.
Remain increasingly resembles a hate cult because decent remainers are not condemning the blanket accusation that leavers are racists. There is a case to make such accusations a hate crime. It is unacceptable and undermines democracy with a climate of fear and intimidation.
It is OK to assert that a remark or statement is racist. It is unacceptable to stereotype a group as racist without proof.

Even under a no deal WTO UK products will have to meet eu standards if they don't they will not be allowed past customs checks
This is the same for all countries exporting to eu

Lets all remember the number of people employed by the EU in Brussels.
The Commission employs 25,000 people and the Parliament employs about 6,000 people. Because of this concentration, Brussels is a preferred location for any move towards a single seat for Parliament. (Copied)

One thing often overlooked is what Raab said months ago, that in the event of a no deal brexit the so called"freedom of the skies"agreement that allows overflight of another country and international recognition of pilot's licences would become null and void(the UK is not a member while the EU is). With barristers being so bellicose freedom of the seas could be lost too
We British have only ourselves to blame. Lets face it, a vast majority of brexiteers were nothing more than ill-informed, xenophobic, rule britannia waving, we don't need them mindset and really knew nothing of the economic consequences of their vote. We will all pay the price.

That would be the worst pension in W.Europe .
The idea that only the British care about being an independent country is widespread among Brexiteers, yet it is utterly ludicrous. Do they really have such little empathy to think the Irish, who fought to kick out their oppressors, the British, would give away their sovereignty? The Finns, who freed themselves from Russia? The Warsaw Pact countries whose independence came just a few decades ago?
Disgusting comment.
The PM lied, its that simple. Stop blaming the EU, that's what the tories want you to do. And stop this mad gicis on fishing, it's a minor fraction of what we'll lose come 1.1.21
Just remember the oven ready deal sold to us a year ago.. more like the ingredients haven't even been produced yet let alone mixed or even remotely ready for baking!!

After you.
That doesn't make it worth wrecking everyone elses livelihoods to preserve your fiahing village. How narcissistic can you be?
That of course excludes those fishing communities that sold their licenses to the French and Spanish.
The reason why so many continental fisherman have access to UK waters is because the UK fishing community sold their quotas to overseas fishermen making big profits. And now you want those quotas back but you don't want to pay for them!
And you lot think everyone else in the UK should suffer as a result of your behaviour!
And you lot think everyone else in the UK should suffer as a result of your behaviour!
There are hardly any British fishermen left most of our British quota is owned by a Dutch family.
Sorry to be blunt, but fishing is a rounding error on the economy's spreadsheet. Brexit throws the entire country under the Tory bus to placate a handful of fishermen. It's the pointless act of self harm in modern history.
Those fishing communities sold their licenses to other EU fishing fleets. Greed has gotten the better of them.
The fish would have gone extinct in British waters decades ago if we'd have fished how fishing communities wanted.
Another bunch who can't move on and want to hold the rest of us back. And another bunch let down by the singular inability of the Tories to plan an economy beyond blind faith in market forces, and offer retraining and redevelopment to those communities.

all over a blue passport.
Eu boats will fish in our water deal or no deal because uk doesn’t have ( and won’t pay for) the protection fleet needed to prevent it. And there is no longer an EUlaw against it ( we left!)
But Boris will sell fishermen down the river anyway.. cos you voted and gave him power to
But Boris will sell fishermen down the river anyway.. cos you voted and gave him power to
Would that be one of the fishing communities that sold their quota to EU fishermen, or one of the communities that rely on selling their catch to the EU?
Coming from a steel community I get it but at some point you have to work out like other past professions it's gone and it's not coming back. What you get from this is no extra fishing back and less cash everywhere else to support run down areas - congrats you lost again.
You know that democracy by numbers thing you like to refer to when it comes to votes in the referendum?
We'll, I think you will find the vast majority do not live in fishing communities, or have livelihoods in any way connected with fishing, fish or fishermen. And they are not about to compromise their jobs and communities for the sake of a few fishermen.
Get it yet?

Perhaps retrain as something useful and relevant?
Or perhaps you shouldn't have sold off your individual fishing quotas to French fishermen. Oh yes people in the know are aware that a lot of you poor betroden fishing communities did that.
You literally took their money and then blamed them for buying off you.

I am sorry for the fishing community - it’s a tough place - but millions of other business will now struggle and, at the end of the day, fishing is I’m afraid a tiny part of our economy. And remember you need to sell your fish to the EU to survive . No deal will move the prices up significantly. I hope you understand that.
Fed up with fish, i'll never buy a British caught fish again, even if it means paying a little more.
And I bet that they voted for Thatcher in the 80's when she, quite happily, destroyed many communities with huge job losses. Did you care about them, if not then "go swivel".
Iain MacSween of the Scottish Fishermen’s Organisation – In Iceland, he told MPs, privatised fishing rights had left “those who own the property rights… sitting in Florida and leasing them out to other people to go and catch.” Going further down this road in the UK would lead to smaller coastal communities having their fishing rights purchased away by wealthier ports.

Because of decades of our MP’s being bribed by Europe with a HALF A MILLION pound annual MEP ‘salary’, (look up the Kinnocks for example) the line has been fed to the British public that being in Europe is great for the British people when, in reality, it’s good for the Europeans trying to own our country and to tell us what we can and can’t do.
Make no mistake, Europe is NOT our our friend!

Macron and Barnier are out of touch with the rest of their partner in the EU protectionist racket. Their priority is to France and it's failing economy, not the EU. There were further riots in Paris over the weekend, they fear French farmers and fishermen will be committing arson in Paris if they don't get a good deal and further subsidies.

The Brexit political agenda has been led by right wing extremists. Their ambition is to achieve a deregulated economy in which the financial and business sectors can operate without any meaningful social and responsible restraint. This will benefit the few but not the majority. It will of course be the majority who will ultimately pay the heavy price for the pursuit of this ideological lunacy.

Describing someone as undemocratic when they cannot accept the result of a democratic vote, when they agreed to accept the result prior to the vote taking place, is not an insult. It is the plain truth.
What this 'government' and its supporters have done by pursuing Brexit is isolate and endanger the economy of this country - in the name of xenophobic dogma. It is a disgrace and it is the greatest dereliction of office in the last 50 years. Brexit is unnecessary disaster - and it was sold on the basis of lies and fearmongering. Disgusting

Could the remainers on this thread please realise that calling Brexiteers idiots and liars underlines the reasons the majority voted to leave the EU? We were sick of being patronised by a so-called Political Elite, and the resulting vote bit them on the backside.
We all lost, some of you will just have to find out the hard way
Not with you anyway.
If you can only make comments like this I don't think we are the losers somehow.
It's a pity you cannot make any positive comments about Brexit, just puerile playground stuff.

I was going to post an intelligent comment on here but based on the top rated comments its been taken over by the usual suspects and anything I write will be misinterpreted and voted up or down based on which "side" I'm assumed to be on regardless of any obvious sarcasm or irony
We need to be conciliatory - more and more working leave voters regret their decision - and the flood will become a deluge over the next six months as the disappointment becomes tragically real. We must unite for the good of the country and reclaim our place steering the EU not piddling about outside fretting about growing youth unemployment
Does anyone else wonder why the BBC opens HYS on Brexit everyday.
Not really. Brexit is an important issue & some of us (with a modicum of understanding of the subject) are concerned about the outcome of this particular stage in the process. If you're not, fine.... Go away & don't waste your time, here & commenting.

Brexiteers are the UK equivalent of Trump supporters. No matter how ludicrous their position becomes, their desire to salute the cause remains undiminished. All but the most stupid realise that Brexit has been a very bad idea in terms of the social cohesion and the economic welfare of the nation. This unmitigated disaster will however be celebrated by the flat earthers as an historic victory.

Unfair, not necessarily an IQ test, but a test about what the EU is and what it does. Bit late checking on google after the referendum! Could be multiple choice. So the guy interviewed on TV the morning after the referendum who voted Brexit "To keep the Muslims out" would be ineligible for a start. And, as Putin is quite explicitly PRO leave (for pretty obvious reasons - don't strain your brain too much but c'mon), your point is both silly & moot.
no deal all the way baby. It's the only way we will guarantee a fairer outcome for the UK. Why do you think Switzerland never joined the EU? It's because they are clever (and rich to-boot) and never fell for the German-Franco BS. The EU helped destroy the UK car industry, favouring lemons over Rovers. The two most prosperous European countries are Switzerland and Norway - and they aren't in the EU

In an effort to make it clear to whoever
What it's like when you're shattered ??
"No point in us remaining" ????
"We may as well go home" ??
As I did on my own
A moan again, naturally ??
If I'm not feeling any less sour ??
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower ??
And climbing to the top will throw myself off ??
In an effort to make it clear to whoever
What it's like when you're shattered ??
"No point in us remaining" ????
"We may as well go home" ??
As I did on my own
A moan again, naturally ??
