Mercedes 'impressed but not surprised' as Russell shines

Mercedes "impressed but not surprised" by George Russell's impressive performance through practice and qualifying for the Sakhir Grand Prix.

What a nasty load of comments. Why do you think Mercedes pay a fortune to Lewis Hamilton, for fun? or do they know more about drivers capabilities then the morons commenting on this HYS?

That’s exactly why the BBC opened this article for comments, they just can’t help having a dig at LH, it’s obsessional. But hey, it’s all just waffle in the end.

Nothing anyone writes on here makes a blind bit of difference to LH’s records.

Good luck tomorrow GR, go well.

The exact answer I give to all of the arrogant racists who fill these pages with their own particularly nasty brand of bile. No one would pay Hamilton’s fees if they thought that someone else could deliver the same value and results.

No World Champion Past or Present would win a title driving a Haas or Williams - but I’m pretty sure they would in a Red Bull or Mercedes.

World Champions are so because they were driving the best cars - which they helped to build with their feedback.

Yes, it's a combination of both car and driver. And when the cars are the same (i.e. Botas' car) Hamilton virtually always wins.

Yeah but Lewis is just such an unlikeable guy. Nothing to do with his skin colour, more his arrogance, stupid style and non-sensical rants about social welfare. He hasn't got a clue. Also, he is the face of racing capitalism, literally bought and raised by a company to make them more money. Suppose Messi isn't all that dis-similar in that respect.

Perhaps Hamilton will take note and start showing some humility for a change.

Ferrari’s superiority - are you for real? Ferrari may have had a better engine for a few races in qualifying, but it was not a patch on the Merc in race trim over the course of the season.

Highlights how average hamilton is in a car that is leagues ahead of everything else of the track for best part of 10 years. Well done to the engineers and mechanics though.

He's just broken every record in the book, equalled Schumacher by winning the title with 3 races to spare and you think he should be depressed.

Right now he just has to focus on beating the virus, one meaningless race is not going to send him into a depression.

If Hamilton wants to prove himself as the best driver he must allow Verstappen to race alongside him in the other Merc. But he's scared, so he demands sub-par teammates like Rosberg (who he even lost to once) & Bottas

All he's has proven is that he's better than Rosberg and Bottas. If he wants to be considered as the GOAT, he needs to race alongside and consistently beat someone like Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton is a very special person. I wouldn't imagine Russell's performance worries him, Lewis thrives on competition like no one else, just ask Rosberg. Lewis has still has at least another five years left in him, and he's already excelled in his dreams, so it's all gravy to him.
Agreed. Hamilton is a very special person. He was fast tracked through the system primarily because of his ethnicity and has been a spoilt brat ever since . Definitely‘special’ Removed

That you choose to focus on LH's ethnicity as making him "special" rather than the facts he had won multiple championships before entering F1 including GP2, that he holds virtually every record in F1, that he has been consistently faster than his team mates etc., says everything we need to know about you rather than LH.

I was unsure about Lewis Hamilton's involvement in Black Lives Matter...

But Bernie Eccleston made Formula One a world wide sport by selling F1 to the americans Liberty media.

When you learn about the massacres in the towns of Rosewood and Tulsa and how they have shaped American history to this day...

Lewis has been absolutely right in his actions regarding equality in Formula One etc.
